  1. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) I think this will go two ways: 1) If Kenny brings brack Rowand or signs Fukudome i think Owens starts in left field and Quentin is the 4th OF. This is because of the need for a leadoff hitter. 2) If Kenny goes ahead and gets Crisp to play CF, Quentin wil start in LF and Owens will be the 4th OF. Either way its pretty good situation to be in, this was a good move by KW. ill protest outside every sox game if owens starts over quentin, especially if we sign fukudome who from all accounts will be an on base in the upper .300s
  2. just some fun facts from elias via espn http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2533330
  3. sounds like the cubs and padres are going hard after him, with the sox and dodgers right there too http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7521692
  4. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Merkin on now: - Quentin deal a good one, on the lines of Lee/Pods trade. - Still in hunt for CF in Rowand or Crisp, not done in the outfield yet. - Crede/Fields talk. Nothing new, issues has to be settled. - No on Tejada, still in Cabrara race, but not on top off the pecking order. - KW unpredictable, Colon and Garcia as examples. - Impact of Mark/Dye not being on the market. - Talking about O. Cabrara trade, major upgrade. Good clubhouse guy. - Pen talk, comparing '05 to '07 pens. - KW banking on the young starting pitchers. - Talking about Jenks outs streak last season. - Getting anything done this winter meeting, depends on Santana with Crisp. just to clarify the lee pods deal was only mentioned along the lines of the quentin deal in that they were both deals that took place at the winter meetings
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) chris young for kw? what? sorry meant chris young for PK
  6. from espns steve phillips.... thats interesting...i still dont think the sox will dish out the prospects to get him....whichever north eastern AL team loses out on santana seems likely....while im sure the orioles dont want to deal in the division, if they get offered a good deal of young players from one of those teams i dont think they can turn it down
  7. FWIW the guy on WSI who claimed he had a source in the arizona office and reported the quentin deal an hour before anyone......said that KW initially asked for chris young for PK and was promptly turned down lol
  8. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) My point was why we do not need Micha Owings not really about Danks. i understand im just saying if we ship a guy like danks off in a trade (which is unlikely anyways) that owings would then slide in a take his role, and the value in acquiring a guy like owings in a trade for konerko would be that it would allow us to trade danks (or owings for that matter) right now
  9. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) We have 5 guys of Danks quality (Danks, Gio, Broadway, Egbert, Floyd) no real need to have 6. danks was a top 50 prospect in baseball heading into this year....broadway egbert and floyd at this points in their careers are nowhere near sniffing the top 100 let alone top 50....even after struggling in the second half...danks value (at least what it would be on the trade market) is quite a bit higher than those guys mentioned not named gio....gio and danks have a chance to be #3 starters....those other guys project as #5s
  10. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) On the CLTV Sports Round Table last night Bob Sokamato (sp?) predicted and and it was a pure guess------ Konerko for Weaver or Santana and Figgins again he was only guessing but I think he may have some decent insite if he was going to make a preditction. I think Owings is really overrated and that deal I am not quite sure on as I think you should get better value for Konerko.....Orlando Hudson? i trade konerko for weaver yesterday....the fact that sakamoto (who really should just stick to high school sports) mentioned him in a trade is laughable not sure why the hate for owings...no he doesn't throw 95 or even 92 for that matter, but for a guy who just turned 25, has a minor league record of 17-3 with a 3.14 ERA with a solid 167 K: 56 BB in 189 innings....and went 8-8 with a 4.30 (yes in the NL West though)......yeah hes 2.5 years older than danks, but im not convinced that hes that much less of a commodity right now than danks
  11. QUOTE(Calderon @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) The Sox have reportedly traded Chris Carter to the Diamondbacks for Carlos Quentin. Discuss. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=62111
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) His trade proposal had Jackson going for Cabrera. Also, I think the Marlins would want significantly higher ceiling players than Gio, Danks, Sweeney and Jackson. i agree...i was probably substituting more quantity for quality with that trade, but nontheless that is probably 4 major leauge pieces, and i think if we trade konerko i think we have to go out and get a big bat, especially with thome potentially being gone by next year, maybe signing andruw is another option....as opposed to actually creating a trade i was more just trying to say that a trade of PK would suggest to me that the acquisition of another big bat would probably be pending
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Who would play 1b for the Sox? uribe? haha no i dunno...good question... maybe fields or cabrera
  14. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) http://www.whitesoxinteractive.com/vbullet...ead.php?t=95262 ahh thanks...im an idiot
  15. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) Over at the WSI board, a poster of there who broke the Quentin deal with a source in the DBacks front office say another deal is being talked about in the early stages... Konerko for M. Owings SP C. Jackson 1B T. Pena RP i didnt see that at all on WSI...
  16. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Liked the first deal, and i would love that deal! it would depend on how we use the money from the konerko deal....but it could potentially work, and coudl signal the framework of a deal like danks/jackson/sweeney maybe gio for cabrera
  17. for those who were clamoring for luke scott to be acquired, we just got a younger, better player who we have control over for longer get a CF now KW ....fukudome cabrera and quentin + fields and richar in the lineup for hte whole year would go quite a long way at upgrading our offense IMO...especially if fields and quentin play like they should
  18. the more i think about this deal the more i keep liking it, and i liked it from the get go.... which would you rather have? a 25 year old who will probably put up mid to upper .300 obps at a cost of league minimum for three years + chris carter or a 32 year old who would put up low to mid .300 obps while making 90 mil over 5 years and costing draft picks not saying carlos quentin is a better plyaer than torii hunter, but given the current market conditions the value of having young players who can get on base at the league minimum and hopefully add pop (quentin, fields, and maybe someday hopefully richar) is extremely high (see boston with pedrioa ellsbury and youk)
  19. from BA's top 10 D backs prospects in 05 when quentin was #3 behind upton, and conor jackson from the corresponding chat... from BA's top 10 Dbacks spects in 05 when he was #1
  20. love, love, love this move....2 years ago quentin couldn't be had, at least not for something other than a legit major league near all star calibur player, we bought low on a guy who is an on base machine....he tore up AAA as a 22 year old, which is actually relatively young for the league.....had success each of the following years as arizona tried to work him in...i have no explanation for his poor numbers last year but they are likely an abberation or as someone said caused by injury....this is getting instant production on the cheap and helps our OBP a ton...bat him second and cabrera first i cant say enough about how happy i am with this move....KW went to a team who was loaded in the OF and took a guy who that organization was unfairly down on after a poor performance in the bigs (carlos quentin is not brian anderson btw) and addressed a need that he previously ignored (ability to get on base), and got it in the form of a guy who will be cheap for the next 3 years and only had to part with an A ball prospect... even given his struggles at the dish last year quentin still had a walk rate that would rival anyone on our team with the exception of thome...if his power develops (which in our park is probable) this guy be carlos lee in 2 years...right now peg him as a kevin youkilis type guy, even with his struggles last year
  21. QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 12:22 AM) Bedard + Tejada will cost a King's ransom. I am 100% shocked that the Angels have gone that direction. They seem itchy to make a move and have openings for both of those guys. A deal of Santana, Maicer Izturis, and perhaps kendrick or Adenhart would be well worth it for a team appearing to be putting its chips all-in for the next couple seasons. I can't see the Sox willing to do a move for an aging SS and a 28 year old pitcher that will cost us more then MB. If their is anyone on that team I wouldn't be surprised to see us land it is someone like Hayden Penn. Just cuz he was once such a highly regarded prospect and the Orioles/baseball has all but lost hope in him. Now I could see us dealing the world to land him, not guys like Bedard and Tejada. remember when the cubs were rumored to have shot down prior for tejada and bedard lol
  22. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) I liked Capuano's '06 numbers, but those were likely an abberant. i love capuano....i think 07 was the outlier....id take him for crede in a second, but im sure wed have to offer more...or at least i would think so
  23. from what ive heard the orioles dont really want to trade bedard, and that they are asking for more than the twins are asking for santana....i dont think we'll be landing him
  24. i wouldnt mind going after the x man xavier nady either...i read somewhere hes available...hed be considerably cheaper than bay i would imagine and hes a solid .280 20-24 HR guy that can play the corner though i think hes a FA next year so nevermind Fukudome would be nice...the comparison that keeps coming up is bobby abreu without the speed
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) And then throw Pedro Alvarez into that mix as well. i guess drafting #1 year after year after year is finally paying off for the rays
