Does anyone else like the fact nobody is giving the SOX a chance in 08
daa84 replied to yoyozuna's topic in Pale Hose Talk
people will be surprised at how helpful it will be to get wastes of space like pods, uribe, owens, erstad out of the lineup.....assuming swisher puts up .270 .380 .475, cabrera puts up .275 .340 .400, and quentin (whose acquisition i love more and more everyday, the guys lowest OPS in the minors was higher than Fields highest while playing at a higher level at a younger age) should reasonably put up .260 .350 .400....if all those things happen our offense will be SIGNIFICANTLY upgraded....guys like uribe pods and erstad were literally useless offensive players....not to mention two of our big bats, PK and Dye had a down year last yea and should bounce back i actually do think this team can compete...especially with solid performances from the starters....our pitching staff will really be the determining factor...we need an 05 like performance (buerhle to be buerhle, vazquez to repeat what he did last year to replace freddy, and jose to be the jose of 05, which may be dreaming) then if one of floyd or danks can take the next step to fill garlands shoes (id take a 4.6 ERA over 30 starts) then we have a decent shot...in the end i think the tigers will be too good and we wont quite have enough...right now if i had to guess i think we are an 80-84 win team (with the possibility of hitting 88, 89 if things go really well ie a contreras return and floyd emergence) and the tigers are probably a 90-92 win team with 100 win capability -
QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Kenny may be figuring that Konerko or Thome will be gone next year, so $5.5 million isn't too bad when you figure that in. Also know that Crede and Uribe will definitely be gone next year. plus cabrera could be gone which would be another 8 mil off the books

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) Ick. 2 years and $11 million for this guy? I could be proven wrong, but my initial reaction is "Ick". its quite a bit of money, but it aint my money...and 5 mil is basically the going rate for an average player these days...i would have rather it been 1 year with an option, but good god its better than the 4 year deal we gave linebrink

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 10:59 AM) Why does everyone hate MacDougal? He had a bad year last year but there were like 4 Whitesox that didn't. He was lights out in 2006 and has been alot healthier than Dotel. I like the signing, but you can never have too many bullpen arms. agree about macdougal 100%...people forget how good he was in 06 and even in 05 with the royals...he had a rough 07 but he has the potential to bounce back
-
yawn.....thats about what he woulda gotten in arb. anyways....i guess we avoid the mess of an arb hearing....i hope he has a good spring so we can get something more than a michael dubee type player for him\ on a side note...maybe i just hate change, but i dislike the new chicagosports.com

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) I just saw the worst commercial in history while watching American Idol. Peyton and Eli Manning in the DSRL (Double Stuf Racing League) for Oreos. I typically like Peyton's commercials, but this one was just horrible. It wasn't funny. It wasn't cute. It was completely idiotic. Peyton should fire whatever agent roped him into that one and Peyton's best friend should kick his ass for not walking in the first five minutes. i absolutely cannot stand the peyton commercial where he is talking about the mini-van....i swear i want to punch him in the face every time he says "maybe get an 18 sticker on the side...yeah...you feel me".....when he says you feel me i feel like im one step closer to flipping my s***...and i actually dont really dislike peyton himself...just that goddamn commercial
-
gotta keep han ram for sure...hes a top 5 pick and you only give up a 5th rounder....i also like kazmir for a 7th rounder, or lincecum...lincecum in that ballpark is gonna be good for quite a few years whereas kazmir has to pitch in the AL east.....where do you pick in the first round?? obviously if you pick #1 you may rather see what else is out there instead of keeping utley

QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) Rosenthal reports: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7683658...3162&ATT=49 I guess it's a decent gamble for them - if he's bad, he still would probably only be as bad as Jason Marquis or Ryan Dempster would. levine reported it on espn1000 too.... hopefully if the sox do sign colon its to a cheap 1 year deal like this

any ford commercial with the this is our country song by mellencamp....radio ones are horrid....i dunno if its a sports clips commercial or something on the radio but they have like just average people singing a song "walk right in...sit right down...yada yada"...same as the 1-877 cars for kids commercials god they are so annoying... haha i used to absolutely detest the sonic commercials, but for some reason now i just laugh at how horrendous they are and think they are kind of funny....btw sonic does suck as for the all time bests...though they were internet fads and i never really saw them on tv

Rereading Moneyball the Day of the Mitchell Report
daa84 replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Diamond Club
whether beane did it or not...theres no doubt in my mind that execs all over baseball looked at talent (at least amateur talent) and took into account the fact that roids may help some guys more than others, or that guys who were considered non users were judged as "having more potential" -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) Jebus, I just saw Kendrick's stats (I saw them before, but this time I really glanced at them) and I compared to Richars' numbers and I must say it's a must we somehow get this kid. Just ridiculous. kendrick certainly can and potentially will win a batting title or two in his career, but he really doesnt walk and doesnt hit for much power...frankly i think hes a tad overrated as a prospect...but that said hes still gonna be a helluva player.....just throwing out there though that quentin had a minor league obp .025 pts higher (.427 to .402)
-
a real good source told me pedro alvarez is leaning towards signing boras, so he might be available when we pick....too bad we dont deal with boras though
-
i wonder if kenny is waiting for after soxfest? i doubt it but just thought id throw it out there
-
chicagosports.com reported it also ... would have been a nice catch...oh well...i think that team on the north side is a serious world series contender...their offense is for real after adding roberts and fukudome...lets just hope their pitching falls apart....an injury to Z and they are in trouble though roberts 2b fukudome RF/CF lee 1b ramirez 3b soriano LF soto C Theriot SS DeRosa/Murton/Pie CF/RF not bad
-
the guy from WSI was spot on during the last trade the sox made, he broke the news online like 2 hours before anyone else had...i think it was teh cabrera deal, or maybe it was the quentin deal, i cant rememer which it was
-
you should try to get some audio of hawk making some ridiculous harmon killebrew comparison, good work though
-
what media reported this?
-
well late in games we could put uribe at 3rd and have a pretty darned good defense with crisp cabrera and uribe...not that its that big of a deal
-
im starting to think kenny realizes what we all already know....we aren't competing now, and with our pathetic farm system...we aren't going to compete in 2-3 years either......the fact that there are rumors about buerhle, konerko, and cabrera make me think that KW swung and missed on hunter and miguel cabrera, and is heading back to the batting cage now to develop.....i would be willing to bet that after he missed on those two "big fish" that he regrets the linebrink deal....anyways id be all for trading buerhle or konerko for the right package....take our lumps and bruises now and rebuild
-
so just because hte hall previously admitted people that it shouldnt have cowley is gonna keep the trend up?
-
now i know the report didnt turn up a whole lot of entirely credible evidence, but its a joke the way espn and other reporters are completely denying that the events in the mitchell report are unsubstantiated...the entire goddamn MLBPA is corrupt....they cheated, everyone knows it, everyone knew it, but now because nobody was willing to talk to the mitchell report its like espn is trying to construe this as...oh well we dont know if clemens took steroids still....WTF!?!? my ass we don't...how much clearer do we really have to make it?! ugh sorry just got so fed up reading stark and gammons b**** about the report was inconclusive mud slinging....mud deserves to be slung! these guys cheated... and no matter how much frank thomas says that somewhat clears his name..somewhere along the lines in history people will question him, and thats bull cuz he was probably clean and A holes like clemens and bonds have ruined it for guys like big frank

QUOTE(max power @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) 3-4 teams isn't bad. but are they gonna pony up a legit enough deal for a 38 year old with some injury concerns? i think you have a much easier time finding a better deal for konerko when you have a dozen or so teams that would be willing to offer something for him
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) Then what were the $4,800 worth of checks for Jim? i love the people who are claiming those checks could have been for anything...they are using excuses like it could have been for pizza or for picking up the dry cleaning...id like to pick someones dry cleaning up for a cool grand

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 11:43 PM) Personally, I think trading Thome is a much smarter option. yeah but you can basically only trade thome to AL teams....and i doubt KW would deal him in the division....so you are talking about a total of 9 teams that could take him...red sox have ortiz, orioles arent the right fit now, rays wont spend that money, blue jays have thomas...yankees have damon at DH (though they might be a reasonable possibility)...the A's would only take him if we paid just about all of his salary...so basicalyl the list of tradable teams is seattle anaheim texas and maybe the yankees.....
