  1. QUOTE(Wanne @ Feb 23, 2008 -> 07:26 PM) Man...ASU put the smackdown on today. I was VERY disappointed not gettin' to see Alvarez today. Wallace with a couple of impressive bombs (a grand slam and 3-run shot)...can't remember who had the other dinger. Leake looked pretty decent on the mound. Actually Leake is supposed to be their best shortstop...but they think he's too valuable on the mound. Kind of a sloppy game for ASU though. ASU had 6 errors (I know Ike had 2 over at 1st and Wallace had one). I don't think Vandy had any errors. Lots of new faces on this team this year. I thought I was told that Jason Jarvis (closer) was ineligible...but he was in uniform today. He didn't pitch...but he pinch hit. I wouldn't read too much into this game though....they could probably play 10 and split 'em. if we dont get our starters to go deep its gonna be a long year....that pen is so young...the only guy who really has any experience at all is jason cunningham, and thats like 4 innings as a walk on after being the team manager...
  2. QUOTE(haroldbainesknees @ Feb 23, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) My arguement isn't that every move or addition Minaya has made has been a disaster. My arguement is that Minaya is not the seventh best GM in baseball. Every other GM above him with the exception of Shapiro has multiple playoff appearances to their credit. Minaya has 1 in 6 seasons as a GM. so does KW
  3. yikes, pitching depth proving to be a major concern for my commodores (which was my biggest worry coming into the year)....ASU all over us 16-2 and its only the 6th inning...brett wallace has a slam and a 3 run shot for the sun devils....7 rbi
  4. who are you guys playing? vandy is without pedro alvarez today...arm injury, not serious....still it would be nice to have him facing the #1 ranked team (USA today coaches poll) in Arizona State.
  5. 95% of frats ive seen at many different schools dont care about the philanthropy events, usually philanthropy is mandated by the school and the frat puts forth a minimal effort for those events....thats not to say that those people in here aren't part of the 5% that do care
  6. solid win for vandy...8-1 over 2 time national champ oregon state....arizona state tomorrow
  7. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Somehow it hasn't rained yet, but it's close. At 1:40pm they moved the game from 4 pm to 5 pm and that looks like a dumb move considering it still hasn't rained. If we get the green light, I'm heading out there at 4:45, but I would expect it to start raining at any moment. god i hate early season rainouts......especially when its the sox, i get amped up for the season and look forward to seein the game, and then its delayed and ppd...hope you get yours in
  8. ryan flaherty for vanderbilt ties andy phillips all time SEC record by hitting in his 36th consecutive game...robins next on a side note im watchin the game thru cstvs all access and they have Roland Hemond in the booth for a few innings
  9. QUOTE(KevinM @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) DePo built what Ned Colletti is trying to destroy. won't dispute that, but depo also spent alot of money on the big league team and also lost alot of games....he did build a farm system though, but he had the 3rd highest payroll in the game back then and lost an awful lot of games with it
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Feb 22, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Probably because of their recent success. It is a waste to put Epstein and Cashman on there, probably Minaya too. Who can't put winning teams together with those payrolls? paul depodesta?
  11. holy crap...reading the story....one of the bales was marked 1, and another one was marked 286....286 25 pound bales?! basically this guy had 8 bales, which was 1.3 mil....so 286 bales is 46.5 million...and that assumes 286 is the last one, which is unlikely....thats alot of pot
  12. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) On First and 10 this morning they kept mentioning that the Sox should sign Bonds. I'm thinking that won't happen. i love the sox more than i hate bonds, so if we signed him, i think i would ultimately be happy....the guy put up 28 HR in 470 ABs last year and had a .480 OBP...if we go cabrera, swisher, bonds, konerko, thome, dye, AJ, fields, richar....damn thats a ton of obp from 2-5 and yeah...id play him in left against righties and let him DH against lefties...(of course giving him plenty of days with quentin/owens filling in)
  13. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Personally, my worst was trading Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin. I just don't think Quentin will pan out as many think he will, and I think Carter is going to be a monster. And my best was trading for Swisher. How about you guys? i got quentin as my best....hes gonna be a big part of this team if given the opportunity i think....worst...i guess getting rid of garland, or signing linebrink for 4 years actually no....resigning uribe was the worst...especially considering we now have cabrera
  14. dayn perry listed KW as the 9th best GM in the game... http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7815398...pieces-together
  15. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 09:30 AM) Why do I have the feeling this isn't even true? its on whitesox.com...."White Sox Reportedly Reach Deal with Colon"...usually if it goes up on their site its legit and probably gonna happen
  16. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) FYI, Ken Rosenthal said that whichever team picks up Bartolo Colon will have a Cy Young contender by May, and he very well could have been the best FA pitcher out there this offseason. Reports are that he turned the corner recently as well. just watched soem highlights of him last year on mlb.com...he certainly showed flashes toward the end of the year, and i can certainly say this....his two seamer moves as much as anyones outside of greg maddux

  18. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) UIC > Vandy UIC really played us very, very well last year....they had some arms in their rotation...we won the first two games by only 1...2-1 and 1-0, i was generally impressed especially the way they threw the ball (and i think one of those pitchers was a true freshman) , though we did pound em on sunday 14-5
  19. how can anyone say this is a terrible deal having not seen the terms of the agreement? lets say this is incentive laden 2 mil guaranteed 1 year deal, than i think this is a smart deal to provide some insurance in our shaky back end of the rotation....at least we have options should someone get injured.... this was from keith law's top 50 free agents of the offseason... colon was 22 (dotel was 23 and linebrink 26).... http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove07/...&id=3107160
  20. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) He is fantastic, I play for the same high school now that he did 3 years ago, and I still remember watching those games he played in, just nasty stuff. Now he has that splitter, geesh. The only concern I have for him is that he is injury prone with an arm that isnt the most durable. Apparently its hard for him to pitch more than once a week. Putnam was recruited hard by Vandy...he took a long time in making his decision between vandy and michigan...We had the #1 ranked recruiting class that year without him (featuring preseason player of the year in Alvarez, 3rd team all american ryan flaherty, second to third round picks in bret jacobson and nick christiani, not to mention diallo fon now starting as a transfer for arizona, and josh zeid at tulane)....that would have been sick to land him in that list too....i think hes actually hurt himself a bit by playing both ways, i think he would be better at either craft had he just stuck with one, but that said it has worked out for micah owings...he really shouldnt have to pitch more than once a week at this point, as hes michigan's bona fide Friday night starter...come tourney time he may have to make a few relief appearances, but he shouldnt be pitching more than just fridays anyways
  21. we didnt get a single guy in baseball america's top 100....i guess the only guy who had a realistic shot was poreda Right now id say the future of our major league team is in serious jeopardy...i dont mind KW trading youngsters for proven vets...but he is basically out of chips to trade now, and thats not promising....this has to get fixed fast so that in two years we are still able to go out and get guys like swisher or quentin with our prospects, cuz right now, we can't, and add in to that the fact that we aren't outbidding other teams for the premier FAs.....its so important that we not screw this draft up
  22. QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 04:05 AM) Is the reason Michigan is ranked so high because of hype from beating Vandy last year, or are they actually that good? It would be nice for the Big 10 to have a decent team. probably a bit of both....zach putnam is one of the best players in the country, and he pitches and plays the field....from what ive read they return their entire team basically....when i saw em last year during that entire regional weekend, they could really hit
  23. thats pretty funny, but i felt bad for him...that would suck for those 10 minutes that he actually believed it.....meanwhile i guess bret myers is a funny guy when hes not beating his wife in public
