QUOTE(dasox24 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 12:33 AM) I wish I could embed this, but there's no way to from this website. It's pretty funny. All I'll say is it involves Mike Huckabee's "I majored in Miracles" comment and the ShamWow. http://video.236.com/services/link/bcpid12...bctid1419758650 video featuring none other than Aaron (Ehren) Wasserman

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 05:45 PM) If he clears waivers than the Sox have to grant him his unconditional release thus making him a free agent, correct? God for him, bad for the Sox as they eat the whole contract, possibly bad for a team that wants him as he is a FA. Is this all correct? I am not going to say this is stupid or anything as I do not know the situation but it is odd. It is in Uribe's favor and if he Sox were rewarding him because they liked him, this is great for him. yeah im a little lost as well....if nobody claims juan, i think he has two options...sit on his butt and collect 4.5 mil from us, or sign with another team for whatever, taking us off the hook for 4.5 mil....is this correct?

toby hall is just a bad baseball player

what an AB by anderson in 06 anderson would have looked at strike 1, swing and missed at strike 2, and then waved at a ball in the dirt
-
brian andersons approach has really really impressed me he has looked better now than i have ever seen him play

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) I think we might see an Anderson/MacDougal trade for Ellis or Anderson for J. Barfield. i want nothing to do with barfield or to trade a guy like anderson to a division rival

trib mentioned potentially mark ellis...but im sure thats just from the speculation of the Baseball prospectus that came out a while ago

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) I know when I am trying to trade someone, I go and tell everyone how s***ty they are... i guess i was just stating the obvious, but the entire message board threw a hissy fit in the crede thread earlier, so i guess i was just posting again here to tell those people to calm the freak down

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Well of course you are correct there, but people here are just panicking about the Crede/Fields thing because starting Joe and sending Fields to AAA is exactly the type of thing our organization would do. it is? i mean..i guess i just dont see why? its not like we are the dodgers or giants and continue to bring in old vets to play over our youngsters....i mean KW has given alot of youngsters alot of chances without proving much....ie anderson owens sweeney jenks floyd danks garland back in the day

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) get bent out of shape over bad longterm contracts lets not get bent out of shape over Crede and Uribe who come off the books after this year. it's JR's money, it's monopoly money, who cares. not that i wanted torii hunter or aaron rowand, but that is 10 more mil we could have thrown at Free Agents like that, even if its not my money it is my team

QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) I would think Fields would get dealt before Quentin. And hopefully not both. everyone knows i love quentin, but strictly from the fact that it is alot easier (especially for us having anderson and owens) to fill OF than 3b i think id rather quentin get traded....quentin and fields would bad for roberts straight up.....this is all interesting considering ramirez is playing CF right now...maybe we are just gonna let richar play 2b and Aram be a utility BTW if this is true, it gives less credibility to front office saying crede will start...cuz 1 week ago they said uribe had the upper hand at 2b, and here we are letting him go

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:17 PM) Josh Fields deserves to play on this team right now, he is a class act guy with great potential. Jerry Owens has done nothing to make him an "absolute stand-out" this spring. Swisher in CF and Fields in LF, Jerry Owens needs an attitude adjustment in Triple A. Ozzie and Kenny are smart baseball minds, send that headcase to Char. to learn. This is like giving the catcher post. to Toby Hall, he has done nothing to prove he's the guy(granted he has yet to play in SPT). Owens is the same way. theres no doubt that josh fields deserves to be on this team...and if the organization is really set on crede playing third, than fields should have been playing LF all spring...i believe crede wont play at 3rd, which is why fields hasnt been playing left....but the truth of the matter is that right now, josh fields is the 3rd basement of 09 and beyond (and hopefully 08) and hes really not an OFer.....ive been a strong owens basher, but to his credit he has played well in ST and quentin has not.....i think id prefer to see anderson in center over owens, but owens has hit .200 points higher than fields this spring wow...brian anderson not only has hit, but i didnt realize he has 9 walks in under 50 ABs...i know its a small sample size but thats a good sign IMO and a good reason to make him the CF over owens who only has 1

QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 01:25 PM) Yeah I thought Dunn was a little worse, change that to poor mans Richie Sexson. The key here is "poor mans". Also, Dunne puts up good numbers but I'm not sure he will ever play on a winning team and some of the fault lies with him. so? richie sexson was pretty forking good in his prime...way better than crede ever was/will be....id rather be a poor man's richie sexson than a poor mans travis fryman (which is basically what crede is)... oh and dont even try to pin the reds lack of success on dunn

i dont want to start another crede thread...theres are like 2 started per day...but legitimately, has there been a more overrated player for so long as joe crede? i mean the pods love fest wore off when our pitching started to suck, and people realized that us winning games 3-2 and 2-1 had very little to do with podsednik.... i mean ill never forget the september and october he had in 05, and he had a nice year, especially power wise in 06, but josh fields had more HR per AB last year than any one year crede has had....oh and he walked more times in far fewer ABs last year than crede did in any one year of his career....Basically in Fields first year in the bigs, he was pretty close to being as good as crede was during credes best year in the majors.... I think people forget that joe crede barely walks more than juan uribe, and his career best obp is actually lower than juan uribes career best obp... and i completely agree with whoever said that while fields is not as good as crede defensively...its not like hes ryan braun either

this thread is blowing up!...may have been the fastest moving thread on sox talk in quite some time...thats good, it means baseball is around the corner

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:57 PM) 84-78 3rd place. They start nicely, but fade late. Pitching falls apart in August and Sept as Danks and Floyd fade away as the workload catches up with them. Offense rebounds nicely, but is really inconsistant with 100 plus K's from Thome, Swisher, Fields, Konerko, Dye, Anderson/Owens in CF and the second base combo of Uribe/Ramirez. this is where our minor league organization kills us....if we start out hot, and look like an 84-87 win team near the break....we have absolutely no chance to go out and make ourselves better midseason through trade because we have nothing to deal, at least not the type of prospects teams typically want for impact type guys at the tradedeadline it would be nice if we were looking like a mid 80 win team to be able to trade for a proven guy that might make us 90 win team and push us perhaps into the WC or division as for my prediction...i say 81-84....basically just like it was during 01, 02, 03, 04

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:40 PM) Normally I'd have stuck this in the catch all thread but I figured someone would fail to notice it there and create a thread for it anyway. The Red Sox actually just made the breaking news on CNN.com. after they b****ed about the yankees complaining about the trip, how hypocritical does this make them look?...although i guess they wouldnt be red sox nation without being hypocritical....i hate them how about this? there are what 7 coaches? with 25 guys on the roster making 40,000 that comes out to a million dollars...how about just divide the million up 32 ways instead of 25...that way everyone gets 31 thousand.....its not like manny needs the extra 9 thousands bucks.... frankly they should be happy to get anything at all....its not like they arent gonna get the same salaries as all the other coaches in the league who wont make hte trip, or the same salary they get every other year they dont play overseas....in the espn article francona made it sound like they wont be recieving part of their yearly pay, which is wrong...they just wont be getting a bonus for going on this trip....id coach for free if i got to go to japan on the mlbs ticket

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 10:22 AM) This is the MO for Cooper projects. They give up some velocity to get better strike zone control. Jenks had pretty damn good control on that 95 mph fastball and is becoming more of a pitcher. Matt Anderson and Kyle Farnsworth are 2 examples of chuck and duck guys who just threw their fastball at 100 uncontrollably. How good of pitchers are they. As far as hitting 100, how far fetched is it. He hit 97 and 98 on occasions last year. Its not like he is throwing 91 and then saying, well I can reach 100. exactly...anyone realize that in 05 at AA, jenks had one walk every two innings...he got a bit better with it in 06, and then last year it was one every five innings...im not going to say he had control issues, but thats basically where he was more vulnerable ....now, stuff wise, he still throws a mile or two harder than joe nathan, with a better curve....and hes working on his secondary pitches as well, so its not like he doesnt have elite closer type stuff...i think hes a better pitcher now than he was in 05 because of his ability to spot his pitches

ill be shocked if fields starts in AAA...this is just posturing...if they were really gonna start crede at 3rd this year, fields would have been playing in left all spring that said i wouldnt feel too bad if crede ends up riding the bench this year...i think even the B level compensation is more than we will get in a trade for him...and its not like the 5 mil we save by trading him will help us sign anyone at this point...i just dont know how realistic it is to let him sit the bench, but it may be the best thing for the team
