  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 10:29 AM) Dump MacDougal, keep both. id way way rather keep mac than masset...i guess you are forgetting how good macdougal can be (check his 2005 and 2006 especially). masset hasnt proven a damn thing and probably will never even come nearly as close to being as good as macdougal can be
  2. haha andy gonzalez just hit a grand slam for the indians
  3. singleton is on baseball tonight, and he sounds pretty good actually...this is a better role for imo
  4. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) Wow... I have always heard things from my dad and older brother about Frank (and the Sox) that year, but I didn't realize quite how good he was. Those #'s are completely sick, especially for that time period. dang this post makes me feel old..."that time period" ....it doenst seem like that was a different time period than it is now, but looking back that was 14 years ago...i suppose it was a bit differnt
  5. QUOTE(iamshack @ Mar 27, 2008 -> 12:06 AM) I wonder if both Quentin and BA come out and play well in the first few weeks, if Kenny would look to deal Pauly before his 10/5 rights kick in....I know there probably isn't much of a market, but one would think the Yankees would at least be willing to discuss the matter... not sure about to the yankees, but i think this is a great possibility, especially if KW gets some immediate pitching in return
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) By Mark Gonzales - 5:56 p.m. TUCSON, Ariz. -- White Sox center fielder Jerry Owens will start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, after an MRI Tuesday revealed a slight tear in his right adductor muscle. The rest of the blog said he aggravated it running out the triple on Sunday. He did seem gimpy after that. One less toy for Ozzie. NOT only is this good news in that it gets either Anderson or Quentin (I really liked what i saw out of both by the end of ST) into the lineup, but maybe more importantly...ozzies obsession for a fast leadoff hitter (having cabrera batting 2) could force alexei into the linup at 2nd over Uribe....both of those would be good consequences of owens being hurt...
  7. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:28 PM) Fine, but again, Fields isn't enough of an offensive presence to justify him booting balls in LF. If he was, I'd say fine, but not yet. hes better htan jerry owens offensively....and the upgrade from owens to fields is significant enough to justify any dropoff that would have existed defensively from fields having a full ST under his belt in left compared to owens....by alot too
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:26 PM) Really, you guys are comparing Fields to Manny and Bonds. I don't think so. defensively? sure why not...the current version of those two players BTW...not bonds in his prime
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Fields got what, 2 weeks in the outfield? For a former Big 12 quarterback, I am confident he has the athletic ability to play the easiest position in all of baseball. If Carlos Lee was able to transform into a suitable defensive player, so could Fields. And we played Pods in LF, so it's not like it can get any worse. exactly...barry bonds and manny ramirez play left field....im pretty sure with a moderate amount of seasoning in ST fields would be just fine....the brewcrew dont seem too worried about LF being to hard to braun to play
  10. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) 40 for Crede, 30 for Owens Good thing we'll be going through our toughest month with a rusty Crede and worthless Owens. Owens isnt worthless dude... he has speed!
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) As long as Ozzie's our manager, Owens will have a spot. which is just a joke...fathom, i know you hear me on this....WHY THE HELL WAS FIELDS NOT PLAYING THE OF IN ST?!?!?!? my god...we played him in major league games in LF last year, why not let him learn in exhibition games this year?
  12. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:15 PM) Over-under on the amount of games needed for KW to swallow his pride and jettison Crede and benchOwens in favor of Fields and Quentin? 50? great question...unfortunately it might be the all star break
  13. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Over/Under on Crede's April: .220/.300/.375 I'm going under in each category. over in BA, under in obp, under in slugging.... ill say .240/.280/.340
  14. QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) You trade him for anything. He's had one outlier year where he produced above-average offensively and the rest have been wretched for a third baseman. Add to the fact that he rarely walks, still struggles with anything offspeed off the outside corner and is coming off of major back surgery, trading him for a C prospect makes too much sense. yeah or even let him ride the pine...hed be a valuable bat off the bench and provide defensive replacement...we will pay his salary even if we trade him, so why not let him come off the bench? its not unheard of....morgan ensburg, tony clark etc
  15. what a joke....good thing we deemed major league games adequate last year for fields to try out left field, but spring training when he actually can learn the position, nope...instead lets march out .320 slugging jerry owens....quentin and fields will be a hell of a 3-4 punch in AAA
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 03:51 PM) Well the score just announced that Josh Fields has been sent down to AAA. ive been holding off for a while because i thought the white sox were just posturing and i really thought there was no way fields was going to be in AAA....but this move is so stupid on many levels Ive made my feelings clear on here before that i think josh fields right now is as good if not better offensively than joe crede. KW has really f***ed this thing up in my opinion...between the uribe situation, and the fact that we have a 24 year old who hit 23 HR in 100 games last year as a rookie back in AAA is simply infuriating....I really want to give KW the benefit of the doubt, and ive held off from blasting him becuase i really thought fields would be the 3b opening day but this just makes me really mad. if the sox were sincere about playing crede at 3rd why in gods name was fields not playing left all spring? im sure poeple will reply with some sort of comment about stunting his growth at 3b, but wtf...id rather stunt his defensive growth at 3rd than march jerry owens out there everyday can a mod move this to the other thread please...thanks
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) If you believe at all the multiple reports, including at least one directly from Paxson's mouth, Kobe Bryant was never available. The Lakers talked about him because they wanted to placate Kobe, but unless Kobe held out, they were NEVER going to trade him. yeah but meanwhile gasol and garnett are off with other teams competing for championships
  18. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 09:04 AM) No, it's a different guy. IIRC, Tim is a Tarheel. tims in high school i think wow i can't believe gordon had that pop...hes a smaller guy, i saw him play prolly 10 times and always thought he was the type of guy who got the most of his body...he has 13 HR in 20 games which is ridiculous....even before this hot start though gordon beckham was the top college SS prospect...prolly in the top 15 or so picks...prolly will be top 8 now i would imagine
  19. QUOTE(Alpha Dog @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) My wow was more to the point that the Tigers payroll has to be approaching the Redsox/Yankmees strata. I hope the owner is independently wealthy, because I can't see the team bringing in that much per year, in Detroit. Maybe it can, but it still boggles the mind. illitch owns little cesears and a whole bunch of other stuff including the red wings... hes loaded
  20. anderson 2 for 2 today as well....id certainly rather give him more playing time than owens....anderson has also walked quite a bit this spring and has shown power which we know owens has absolutely none of
  21. when hall was brought in he was a decent defensive catcher and was relatively proficient at hitting lefties, which was what we needed....unfortunately the injury has cost him alot and right now im not so sure lucy would be any worse out there
  22. haha ron santo thinks the brewers still have cordero as their closer lol
