  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) Fields moving the runner over. define irony
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Right now Fields can produce offensively as good as Joe Crede's career has been. He's younger with a larger upside, its really no comparison. But you will always have the nay-sayers just like in the first page of the thread where everyone was talking s*** about Floyd and then he goes out and puts up a solid outing. while i agree with you, i will say that fields has had considerably more success than floyd has at their respective positions ....i remain skeptically hopeful for floyd, but optimistically hopeful for fields...i think thats a good way of putting it
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) You can't judge Crede on last year's numbers. That would be like judging Frank Thomas on 2001 the point is, you wanted to judge fields on last years numbers only. Just as you cant judge crede on last years numbers alone...you cant judge fields on last years either....with crede, you are right, there is a long career that allows us to at least take an educated guess at his year this year....with fields its harder, but at very worst, it looks as if it will rival credes year, if not be better edit on that note im done arguing this...you have your opinion i have mine and theres nothin wrong with that
  4. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) Fields OBP was .308 last year. Crede's career is .305. I think the 100 fewer strikeouts Crede would provide would more than make up for that .003 loss of OBP. well then lets be fair and point out the fact that credes obp last year was .259....if you really think fields will end up with a .308 career obp than i agree with you...gimme crede, especially considering the defense and lower ks....but ill be willing to bet you that fields ends up with an obp for his career at least .030 higher than crede
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Because strikeouts don't move runners. Strikeouts don't make fielders field the ball and cause errors. i just have a difference of opinion than i guess.....over the course of the season.....in the 50 times a guy like crede puts the ball in play for outs more than fields roughly 2 will cause errors (assuming .960 flding %)...the moving runners thing...yeah how many times over the course of the season will crede get the job done when fields wont? 5? besides the stats we are looking at dont adequately even reflect that because we dont know how each batter fared in those specific situations...also you gotta factor in the extra Gidps too... its my opinion that the 30 extra walks are quite a bit more valuable than those few extra times the opposition makes an error or the guy is moved over
  6. QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) louisville kansas memphis and uconn gulp
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:30 PM) He also struck out 44 more times than Crede's career high in k's. yeah....explain why thats bad
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) I've contended that his glove work and approach in CF last season, as the season went on, started to approach average. His arm is the issue. there were reports last year that when he was in AA he was a below average CF and had to play LF...but even with his blunder in the first i actually think hes a very serviceable CF....not as good as BA, but certainly not as bad as rob mackowiak or carl everett
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Since Garland is gone, does that mean that Buehrle is the best hitting SP? Or is it Danks/Vazquez? javy had 2 hits and looked like he knew what he was doing out there...plus he had the experience in the NL so id say him
  10. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) Fields will do more of this, then I think anyone here realizes. Thats BB alot. in 100 games last year he walked 1 more time than crede has in any full year of credes career
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) Doesn't Bochy have the largest head in baseball? i think kevin mench
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 05:07 PM) K works too. still has work to do though
  13. a bit of bad luck there on the hit and run as the ball was hit right to where the 2b would normally be...alright gavin, pitch over it...get the ground ball
  14. i think hawk just took an indirect shot at uribe... "the guys who will kill you aren't the guys who make 65 million and play hard everyday like aaron rowand...the guys who kill you are the guys who make 4, 5, or 6 million and can't play"
  15. thats about as good as you can play that at 2b for alexei
  16. QUOTE(Want2Repeat @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) I agree with you. I have some hope for Danks. If they do yank the leash on Floyd, who do we turn to?? Freddy Garcia? id still not mind giving haeger a shot ....it takes guys a long time to master the knuckler, and i honestly think hes the type of pitcher who will only get better...but we'll see....massett or broadway will probably get the first shot, though it would be tough to stretch massett out if he starts out in the pen
  17. QUOTE(Want2Repeat @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:32 PM) I would tend to give Floyd the benefit of the doubt if he actually had a track record of success. His only real success was last year in a few games vs. Detroit, when they had a depleted lineup. What we are seeing from him is what he has always displayed. It just bothers me that Kenny is putting so much faith in 2 pitchers who have never proven anything and one who had a really bad year last year. The fact that we can't seem to produce runs again is also bothersome. I guess this is just my spring panic, but I don't want to see what we saw last year. i really dont have a problem handing the ball to danks...he was a good pitcher for hte first half of the year last year, and at a really young age...it would certainly be nice to have someone other than floyd, but we'll see. If he continues to stink, hopefully we will have a short leash with him.
  18. i know there was some question concerning cabreras arm out there, but on that play it looked pretty strong.... i think we got used to see uribe flash his arm on every throw, and cabrera is quite the opposite...on easy plays where he has time...he just lobs it, but as evidenced on that play...when he has to use his arm he can....that said hell never have the arm uribe will, but most shortstops won't
  19. QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) Did Hawk just say Richar was waived...someting about a trip to the DL, and a trip to the minors,, and he refused so he was waived, or am I hearing things...I think he talked about it during Konerkos AB wow thats not what i heard at all....but maybe i spaced out...richar was put on the DL....hawk was saying that he talked to ozzie about richar and ozzie shrugged and did say, "richar is gone"...which was interesting i thought, but he didnt say anything about being waived i didnt think
  20. QUOTE(sf_soxfan @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) WTF is wrong with Zito? 10 BBs, no Ks this spring...looks terrible too bad for him uribe isnt playing...hell prolly K fields though
  21. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) http://youtube.com/watch?v=Tre8Xa04g8Q What a f***ing game. that didnt take long
  22. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Is Brian Anderson dead? Owens, CF Cabrera, SS Swisher, LF Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Pierzynski, C Fields, 3B Ramirez, 2B Floyd, P i dunno but i think thats probably an awful lot like what we will see most days during the season (with the DH exception)
  23. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) Sounds like Verne Lundquist. And if it is, have some respect, the man's been doing pbp since the 20's...1820's, that is. lundquist did the UT american game....ill never forget his voice just because of the happy gilmore "a rather large an economically diverse crowd" quote... The announcers were Tim Brando and Mike Gminski http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/0...-round-one.html
  24. jayson stark had an article that said the sox are thinking long and hard about playing alexei in center he was one of a handful of guys in the article that are "creating a buzz" http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/c...&id=3304727
