  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Konerko OPS in 2007=.841 Kotchman OPS in 2007=.839 Konerko in 2008=12 million Kotchman in 2008=400K Kotchman sucks. and kotchman's ops is driven more by his obp, where as konerkos is driven more by his slugging, which makes kotchmans .840 ops slightly more valuable...not saying id trade konerko staright up for kotchman, but its funny to me how people write kotchman off because he doenst hit 30 HR a year
  2. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) Thome leading off? Lots of solo homers and lots of double plays. it is too many solo HRs....i understand fathoms desire for obp setting up the boppers in our lineup, but basically we want thome right in front of our other big power guys (PK and dye)...i would just want to have someone who is often on base in front of thome for thomes HRs as well....not whoever would be batting ninth....but in general, i do agree with fathom that the leadoff hitter doesnt need to look like a typical leadoff hitter....for instance...if carlos quentin becomes a .370 obp guy with 15 HR...id be perfectly fine with him leading off...even if he doesnt ever steal more than 10-15 bases
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) I agree with your assessment. In a perfect world, the team takes the money they would of used on a 2nd and 3rd round draft and use it to pay overslot. But I dont see the sox going over slot. Our owner has too good of a relationship with Selig to bypass the slot allocation. Porcello fell into our laps last year, and we passed due to financials. I dont have enough faith in Williams and the sox scouts that they will draft the best available talent. What if that talent is represented by Boras. I think they will get someone decent, but somewhat of an overdraft. I believe that Danks is Kenny's target. good point...id would certainly suck if we kept going for slot (though at the 8th pick slot still isnt bad)....at this point though since we already have linebrink, rowand only costs us a 3rd round pick which will probably be inconsequential
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 10:52 AM) Another type A free agent. So we get a first round draft pick, then we start off at the 4th round. Thats what smart teams do, they limit their draft picks to restock the talent pool in their minor leagues. The same type of talent, that teams have been using to acquire talent. Rowand on this team is nice, and by himself sure. We just signed a type A free agent setup guy. So once again, we wont be replenishing the worst minor league system in baseball this up coming year. We wont pay overslot. So we will get Jordan Danks the grindermaster in the overdraft because he is cheap. 55 million dollars for Rowand. Wait till he hits .270 and cant hit the slider again. I am glad we are just blowing our load because of perception. Just blow this thing up and start over. Rowand isnt a difference maker and we are not competing against the Tigers and Indians this year. Unf***ingbelievable. first of all we havent signed him yet.... second its not always the quantity of picks, as it is the quality...the fact that we dont have a second and third pick might make us go for the top talent....detroit only had maybin and miller (and porcello) because of signability reasons and they fell to 10, 6, and 27 respectively....as long as KW makes up for it by getting the best available player in the first round, and then goes after a potential signability guy (like the cubs did with samardjza a couple years ago) in the 4th or so id be fine with it.... ideally we would draft like i said above and then have a 2nd and 3rd pick as well, but if we save the money from the second and third round picks signing bonus, to get a player who may fall due to signability reasons (say a pedro alvaraz or a justin smoak) id be fine with it
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:43 PM) Every time I read comments like this about Crede, I think Maggs, who signed a top 10 contract after a surgery that was considered experimental in the US. Crede does have value and if Scott Boras was our GM, we could get a ton for him. yeah, everyone blasted the tigers for the contract, and to their credit it worked out....but dont forget maggs contract takes a huge hit if he gets injured...something other teams won't have in line for crede....also crede isn't half the hitter maggs was before the injury...i mean i hope you are right, i really hope we can get a guy like capuano for him or more but imo i just dont see it happening
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) I believe the Marlins are non-tendering Olivo so with this trade their payroll becomes something like $15 million for the entire team. i believe andrew miller is their highest paid player
  7. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) It's also all about having $200 million to spend. yankees didnt spend 200 million on cano cabrera chamberlain hughes kennedy tabta etc etc nor did the red sox spend 200 million on buccholz lester ellsbury pedroia youkilis delcarmen masterson lowrie (not to mention han ram, and sanchez who they traded for beckett) no doubt speding 200 millions helps keep guys like arod and manny around, but thats not why those teams have up and coming farm systems that are fertile enough to go out and acquire johan santana in a trade
  8. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:04 PM) You mean resigning Uribe wasn't enough? haha i really got a good laugh outa that
  9. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) Josh Fields isn't decent? its actually pretty funny...i was just talking to my brother saying that fields could really turn out to be an impact type player for us....we produced basically only jon garland from the top ranked farm system back in 2000 (buerhle too, but he was a bit ahead, and really wasnt a marquee player that gave us that ranking) (and crede, but hes been nothing beyond an average major leaguer)....now when our system is at its worst, we may end up producing an all star.....its funny in projections, you can have very little depth in your minors, but if those guys you have do turn into gold, your farm system can still be very productive, more productive than a deep system with only a few guys who truly make a big impact
  10. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) That is why i think it would be dumb to trade crede right now. His value is at an all-time low. They might as well, start with him in the season and hope he gets hot. Then trade him for more or sign him. And not to sound to much like White Sox brass but with how last season and this offseason have gone down, it might not be the smartest move to trade a fan favorite like crede right now for some mid-level prospects. its not a bad idea, there would be worse things in the world than giving crede a shot hoping his trade value goes up and then dealing him at the deadline or something...i just think if fields is the eventual 3b, you dont wanna stunt his development there...
  11. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) OK nevermind. I didnt know Hart had such a good contract. I will now shut up. im sorry, i didnt mean to sound harsh...its just been a long day for sox fans...at this point i just dont think crede has much value at all...and hart is good, young and cheap...something i desperately wish the sox had (which is why i was happy about quentin...actually corey hart is a good comp for what quentin could be in a year or two - minus the speed probably)
  12. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) I think there's no way they'd move Corey Hart so I think you are off on that but it certainly wouldn't surprise me if it was Hall. That said, my money is on this being Chris Capuano to the White Sox. I would bet on it theres no way crede is even worth that much....hes a guy who has 1 year left on his contract and isnt even guaranteed to start the year healthy...on top of that any team knows he wont be extended as boras will certainly test free agency...in addition the sox have no leverage because the quentin and ocabrera deals basically ensure that fields will be at 3b and we will just be desperate to dump credes 5 mil anywerhe.....ill be happy with a nick masset/ andy sisco type addition for crede
  13. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:49 PM) I think it's extremely difficult to try and win now, and at the same time, restock your minor league talent. really? i think the yankees red sox and dodgers have managed to do it pretty effectively over the last 4 years.... its all about investing money in scouting, in the draft, and in amateur talent in other countries...not necessarily just trading away vets for prospects (though that helps, but now a days cheap players are more and more valuable to the point where nobody wants to trade them)
  14. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:48 PM) I'm not sure why it's funny. I don't want Hart but I know the Sox have actually shown interest in him before and he is not considered to have a high ceiling, especially compared to Hall. He had a nice year last year but he is nothing special if that is what you are getting at. 0/30 GMs in this league would trade corey hart for joe crede
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Wow, this might be the funniest post of the night (no offense) lol i thought the same thing.... currently the brewers pay hart 0 to produce at a level beyond just about everyone on our team except for thome and konerko probably.... the brewers actually have 3 guys like that in braun fielder and hart....they pay a combined 1.5 million.....again, see why its a good thing to have a farm system?
  16. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) Why are we trading for prospects if Kenny's stated goal is the championship ? because building a minor league organization is important not only for developing players, but for trading for players....ya know like miguel cabrera btw if anyone thinks we will get anything of value for crede, i think you are delusional...ill be happy just to get his salary off the books...ditto uribe...that would clear up 8-10 valuable million off the books and really allow us to go after a FA. Honestly, if I'm KW i sit on the money for a year and invest it next year. This years FA pool is horrendous as currently constructed....next year we could have alot to spend as cabrera will likely be off the books and maybe even thome (depending on what we do with his option)
  17. great KW is already playing the "its not about the superstars" card....lol predictable, i just thought it would take a bit longer than a few hours... part of me really thinks that florida needed a catcher in that deal...even though robello is nothing special...they insisted on mathis from the angels...it was pretty clear they wanted 1 stud position player, 1 stud pitcher, a catcher, and a few other arms....the angels i guess werent willing to give adenhart and kendrick and mathis.....i think the sox fell short in terms of offering the catcher and couldnt offer match the pitching prospect as well
  18. Not to mention the tigers outspend the sox by roughly 5 mil in the draft ever year
  19. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) Check this link out....this is from nearly 8 hours ago... http://sportsreviewmagazine.com/index.php?...Itemid=88888928 it was reported by alot of outlets this morning that they were discussing it, but it was believed they were far apart still...i guess they were alot closer than we realized
  20. the certainly upgraded their lineup...and now that inge will probably be traded that is gonna drive the market down for crede as well....too bad dontrelle is gonna get lit up in the AL and the tigers after trading for renteria and cabrera have no farm system...oh well...granderson polanco cabrera sheffield maggs guillen renteria pudge jones damn
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:23 PM) Detroit is retarded to add in that many players. MCab is a good haul, Willis will get lit up in the AL central and they would have been better off keeping Miller instead of taking Dontrelle. I still think this is rumor fodder. It was said in ESPN that the White Sox have an announcement coming up tonight. rock whered you hear that...espn as in the tv station or internet site
  22. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Rauch gave up like 1 of those homers; you are referring more to Jim Parque then anyone else. Besides that, that's absolutely terrible reasoning. So yeah, you need to say a lot more to deject a pitcher like that. He's actually been a pretty damn good reliever for his past 230 innings or so; maybe you need to look at his history. Rauch isnt a white sox because he left the game he started early. Rauch was being sent down after the game and he told the sox he left in the 6th inning or so after he was pulled to get a jump on heading back to AAA. Basically he was never going to pitch for teh sox again, and i doubt we reacquire him
  23. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:13 AM) QUOTE Steve Phillips of ESPN reports that the White Sox are close to acquiring Chris Burke from the Astros for an unknown relief pitcher. Burke became expendable when Houston signed Kaz Matsui and would be competing with Juan Uribe and Danny Richard to start at second base in Chicago. David Aardsma and Nick Masset are both out of options, making them possibilities in such a deal. if its aardsma or masset, i have no problem with that. i dont think either of them was going to make the team this year anyways(and theyre out of options) i really like that if burke will be a utility guy...not so much if hes starting at 2b over richar, but id give him a shot i guess...maybe platoon type situation on second thought i wouldnt mind seeing burke play everday at 2b...if he can hit his 06 numbers over a full year (and i think he can) hes basically iguchi....this is another guy who was a pretty big prospect a few years ago and his team soured on him and had other guys in front of him....if im the astros id way rather have burke at .5 mil than matsui at whatever they got him for...but ill take him, especially if its for a guy like masset FWIW Burke over the last 3 years .293 .356 .423 vs. lefties .233 .305 .364 vs. righties
