  1. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 02:44 PM) Link. Good read, but it'll take a lot of your time. something on the first page of that article is a reason for every white sox fan to hope that Arod could actually be a white sox... this is really what boras has done brilliantly...he has convinced teams (and some rightfully so) that baseball economics today are so different than they were just 10-15 years ago....people claim footballs popularity has overtaken baseball, but baseball (with alot of credit to bud selig and even jerry reinsdorf) has been just a booming business in the past decade or so with continual growth....and a good business man like jerry reinsdorf man knows this and will use that economic growth to continue to invest in a better product, which is a big reason why our payroll has gone over 100 million....of course the world series had alot to do with that as well...but how many times in basbeall history have teams basically increased their payroll by 30-50% in the course of a few years? only recently, and it has less to do with teams making it to the series than it does with the booming business of baseball
  2. perfect fit for that team IMO....he knows alot of the vets already, and would hopefully be able to help their young pitchers hit their potential....hes a classic fiery guy that is hired after the laid back manager leaves....and usually teams tend to respond to that (at least for a year or two)
  3. i really believe the white sox or tigers are very likely destinations....the sox are going to have to fill in thome's spot in the order and production at the end of the year, and will likely get garland off the books at the end of this year (if not sooner).....its my belief that KW is going to try to fill the rotation with the young pitching acquisitions of the last year....even contreras is another 10 mil off the books if we can find a taker....either way thome + garland is 20 mil off of 2009s payroll....we may have to be paying heavily for 08, but it will come back to earth in 09 especially if gio or egbert or broadway or floyd or someone (maybe even someone who we have still yet to acquire) returns...
  4. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) Who would you have liked KW to sign? What percentage of the big name/big money free agents have panned out over the past 3 years? 5%? And what free agents are you looking at for this year? It's an insanely weak class outside of A-Rod and a few big name closers. i agree..i actually trust KW with free agents....its my belief that hes not gonna make a foolish financial decision....he brought in AJ, Iguchi, hermanson, el duque, dye, all on FA deals and all of those deals IMO were very good....for as much as people have been blasting KW lately, building the 05 team with the money he used was truly a great job of general managing
  5. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 28, 2007 -> 12:37 AM) If we could deal Danks/Fields for Crawford, I'd do that in a second. Crawford is exactly the type of player Ozzie wants. Crawford would immediately fill our leadoff/LF void. We could just sign Shannon Stewart instead of Hunter for pennies on the dollar. For people on this board being so high on Burrell and being so low on Crawford...it blows my mind. i dont think anyone is higher on burrell than crawford....its just a matter of perception, people (especially philly) for some reason trash pat burrell when in fact he has been a very productive player....carl crawford gets so many accolades (hes basically a classic example of fantasy value overrating his actual value) and is probably not as good as so many people give him credit for
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 27, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) I would pack Ben Gordon's bags for him if we could get Kobe. As long as Deng is not included. Why not offer a draft pick instead? mainly cuz a bulls draft pick has no real value at this point...they will likely not pick above 20 and probably closer to 25 the next couple years, and frankly thats pretty worthless....a solid role player is the best you can hope for there
  7. "All I know is I've been going to doctors all my life. What has it gotten me? I'm thirty-three years old. I haven't outgrown the problems of puberty, I'm already facing the problems of old age. I completely skipped healthy adulthood. I went from having orgasms immediately to taking forever. You could do your taxes in the time it takes me to have an orgasm. I've never had a normal, medium orgasm." ---"I've never had a really good pickle." "I'm going to read a book. From front to back. In that order!" ---"I've always wanted to do that."
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) How disgustingly sick was October, 2005? Between Gooch's 3-run HR off Wells, EL Duque's hocus pocus act in game 3, the A.J. play, Crede's game-winning hit in game 2 of the ALCS, Konerko's slam, Pods' shocking game-winning HR, it's so easy to forget about Blum's clutch HR. God I miss 2005. dont forget about the 4 straight CGs, or the shellacking we gave boston in game 1
  9. ive never given a reach around to a spider monkey while reciting the pledge of allegiance http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...eoid=1430700896
  10. its my opinion that typically when we look back at things we get so caught up in trying not to overlook past events that recent events/records/players etc. become underrated......having said that from the standpoint of the series as a whole was there anything better than 01??? brosius jeter tino taking Kim deep, the heroics of schilling and johnson, the walkoff from gonzalez on rivera (possibly the greatest october/ november pitcher ever)....not to mention baseball and the countrys triumphs after sept. 11.....mccain and guliani side by side wearing NYPD/NYFD hats...good stuff and in terms of the games...unbelievably exciting basbeall
  11. i was at game 7 last night....go to fenway with an already mildly bitter taste for the red sox (especially to game like last night) and you will hate them even more
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 22, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) There isn't a franchise in sports that I dislike more than the Red Sox. theres only one i dislike more
  13. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 18, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) You know, if Kobe actually DOES become a Bull, how long do you think Skiles lasts as the head coach? Skiles is notorious for not wanting to deal with star attitudes, and doesnt cater to anyone. Kobe has been spoonfed and coddled for pretty much his entire tenure as a Laker, how would he adjust to Skiles demanding constant defense? Somehow I dont see this getting done if Deng is involved. Maybe a sign and trade with Gordon and some other pieces. If the Bulls could pair Kobe and Deng for a long period of time, the Bulls will definitely be the team to beat for a while the notion that kobe is a poor defender is an antiquated one...he has actually become a very strong defensive player
  14. haha that video is hysterical....i wonder if they will have mike adamle larry csonka and thiesman announcing again.....csonka is probably too busy celebrating when undefeated NFL teams lose....though he has to be worried about whoever wins this years pats colts game........thiesman certainly deserves no better than american gladiators though
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) I think the remarkable think to me about that game was that his best pitch, his 2 seamer, didn't seem to work at all that day. So he just went out there, fired in the 4 seamer at 94 on every one of the Halos, and just beat the Hell out of them. that was the most impressive game of the bunch i always thouhgt....the only flaw was the HR by cabrera on a nice two seamer in on his hands.....cabrera just cheated looking in and sat on it and barely got it out....it was actually a good pitch, but an equally good piece of hitting
  16. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 14, 2007 -> 04:57 PM) You don't think that most people thought this way as well? Harris sucks and would have been just as good as McGowan or any other backup DB that the Bears have thrown out there this season. never said nobody else thought that way...but looking through that thread most people liked the trade...and i disagree...harris never looked half as bad as mcgowan did today overpursuing just about every play to his right
  17. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 2, 2007 -> 10:37 PM) i actually am not sure how i feel about this move...my biggest concerns for this D are at safety....lets face it, mike brown is injury prone, so depth is important....in addition archuleta was horrible in washington....yes it wasnt the same system, and archuleta is supposedly much better in cover 2, but he was getting beat in washington with his coverage skills, and im not sure i trust that he will be able to cover half the deep field as well as he did a few years ago in st. louis.....after that manning is solid, and i assume the bears must think highly enough of brandon mcgowan and rookie kevin payne to let harris go....those guy i suppose could be better ballplayers than harris....im not saying chris harris was a great player, but this was a guy who started 20 games in just 2 seasons in teh NFL and that experience is somewhat valuable.... oh well...it probably won't matter too much, but if brown gets injured and archuleta stinks again we could be in trouble jinxed
  18. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) I ranking them as more of a certain game, certain play. while i dislike both the yankees and red sox....how about boone in 03? or either LCS in 04?
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 02:55 PM) Young shouldn't be on the list because he's on a horrific offense and has been banged up. However, if your talking a healthy young he is better than Mendenhall. He's also a senior though so he has experience on his side. i forgot hill too....i dunno where he falls...somewhere between hard and wells i would say
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) By the way...I just want to say...Mendenhall best RB in the Big Ten, BAHAHAAA. I'm not slamming him, but he ain't the best. I rarely saw an "impressive" run out of him today. Albert Young was better today, than again Young is finally getting healthy again and when healthy he has led the big ten in rushing before. hart>chris wells> mendenhall > young
  21. so when does mcgee replace juice as the full time starter? edit: whups...i guess i jinxed him
  22. pat burrell had 114 walks last year.....joe crede has 140 walks in his career
  23. QUOTE(knightni @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) Ouch. That's some bad D there. while i wont disagree, is it any worse than what we have now? im not sure that owens is significantly better in Cf, burrell is probably better than fields in left and fields is a better 3b than andy....but yeah its not great....
  24. an OF of burrell figgins dye....IF fields uribe richar kotchmann, thome and AJ....yeah id be ok with that, while at the same time not adding any money.....wed jump from last in the league in OBP to the top half now waking up.....i do think that garland for burrell is a very likely possibility, each guy has a pretty big expiring contract, and it fills the other team's needs..... and garland and crede were mentioned separately in a philly paper (though that is not any less speculation) http://www.philly.com/inquirer/sports/2007...es_on_arms.html
  25. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...res/265012.html The International League Top 20 is out and Josh Fields came in at #4 (behind Bruce, Bailey and i forget who was 3). Danny Richar and Ryan Sweeney were mentioned in the blurb as up for consideration but not making the final cut. If anyone is a subscriber, you should ask just how close those two were and what people feel about them. wow fields beat out some really good names....BA must think pretty highly of him....btw #3 was garza
