QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 10:41 AM) Is there a website that has the Yankees and the Red Sox home schedule, i'm going to Yankeee Stadium and Fenway Park next summer and the sooner I can plan ahead, the better. im gonna try to get to yankee stad. and shea next summer too before they tear em down......fenway is a cool park, but i personally think its overrated, dont get me wrong its definitely a place baseball fans should go, but i guess i just dont get why people love it so much and think that its the be all end all of stadiums....i guess cuz its old

QUOTE(LukeGofannon @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) Hanley Ramirez Albert Pujols Ryan Braun Yovanni Gallardo Tim Lincecum Curtis Granderson Phillip Hughes Ryan Howard Jake Peavy you know granderson is only 2 years younger than johan? i understand you like guys like gallardo lincecum and hughes because they are young, but santana is only 28 and has established himself as teh best pitcher in the majors......he will probably be the best pitcher in the majors for around another 4 or 5 years.....i doubt anyone of those young pitchers you listed are ever even close to being the best pitcher in the bigs for anything more than 2 years by themselves.....not to mention with hughes isnt even the best young pitcher on his team IMO. edit: by young pitchers i really meant rookies...so dont include peavy in what i was saying above

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) The last thing we need is another guy to clog up the bases. the first thing we need is another guy who can get on base the last thing we need is a bunch of speedy players who dont get on base bonds is my most hated player....but he would no doubt help this club.... his obp is exactly what we need, and LF at the cell is one of the easiest to play in the majors (behind boston)...add to that the fact that he could DH vs. lefties with thome getting the day off.....not to mention he would be going from one of the best pitchers parks to one of the best hitters parks, and will be getting away from the rest of those big NL West stadiums (colorado the exception) -
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Sep 19, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) You know it is funny, there was a thread a while back about the fate of the ball and I said I would destroy if I had caught it and quite a few people called me, in so many words, a liar. Saying that one one would do that. Well this guy is going to do one better, he PAID for it and he might destroy it. Bravo sir. and he is potentially profitting off of his investment because of the exposure he and his company are getting because of it....its pretty brilliant marketing...i know i had never been to ecko's website before i voted

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) That's the point, which you seem to be missing. I believe rookie league stats are about as valuable as a wooden nickel. 5innnings 50 innings. it doesn't really matter. I don't care if you beat up a retarded midget once or 10 times, you're still picking on a retarded midget. I might be excited if he was doing this out of HS. Or if he had some secondary pitches. But right now he's just a lefty with one pitch. It's a plus, mid-90's pitch, but the competition he's playing against has never seen anything like that before. The results are not surprising, or particularly meaningful. A college first rounder is supposed to destroy inferior competition like that in the PIO league. Excuse me for not creaming myself. Here's a list of recent Sox first rounders, and how they fared in their initial assignment to rookie ball. Brian Anderson -- 1.075 OPS McCulloch -- 1.64 ERA 27K in 22 IP Gio -- 2.25 ERA 36 K in 24 IP Ring -- 0.00 ERA 9K in 5IP Borchard -- 1.037 OPS I'm glad Poreda hasn't failed. But he hasn't proved crap yet. yeah i agree....rookie ball is often a lower level of baseball than the more elite college conferences

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) Broadway doesn't have the mentality nor the stuff to be a contributing major league starter. If he can't challenge hitters in AAA (9th most BB in the minors) then he sure as s*** can't challenge them in the majors. i certainly can't speak to the mentality of lance broadway because frankly i dont know him and i havent seen him consistently pitch......personally i am far less concerned about the walks than his lack of Ks......this year was a clear outlier in walks for broadway....his 4.53 BB/9IP was much higher than his previous career high of 3.27 and 2.33 in 2006 in AA....i also believe a rather reasonable explanation for the walks could be the fact taht he was developing a 2 seamer which he basically didnt throw until this year, and a changeup....and he was learning to harness them..both of which, i was certainly impressed last night with given what i had heard about his stuff

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) Joe Crede atleast showed some potential in AAA, putting up a .930 OPS his second year in AAA. Past rookie ball, Ryan Sweeney has cracked an .800 OPS one time, and that was last year at Charlotte. Even the infamous Brian Anderson even put up a .830 OPS at AAA before proving he absolutely blew chunks. extremely good post

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 06:08 AM) Juan Uribe's 31 walks places him 4th on the team in that category. It is not Walker's fault the offense blows, it is definitely KW's as he apparently didn't consider the importance of being on base until recently. thats a product of uribe playing every damn day...hes seriously the only guys who almost never gets a day off....im guessing hes behind thome konerko and dye.....AJ also doesnt walk frequently, and rests more than uribe.....beyond that at every position, 3b, CF, LF, 2b, we have had a rotating door.....id be willing to bet if you took crede + fields walks they are more than uribes...same goes for richar + iguchi, same as pods/owens/terrero/gonzalez or whoever has been in LF and CF.... but yes i agree, a major flaw in the way KW put this team together, was that he had too many guys who dont get on base, like uribe and AJ, add into that the fact that we are playing andy gonzalez on a consistent basis and you are gonna have a really bad offense
-
you cant be a .270 hitter with 10 HR in this league unless you walk alot and steal alot of bases.....sweeney does neither particularly well....he needs to develop power....what even more of a concern when it comes to sweeney is his lack of 2bs, not just HRs....for a guy that is supposed to have a "line drive swing" he should be finding gaps more than he is

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 07:39 PM) Nice job by Broadway, he definitely has a feel for pitching and is composed out there. hes thrown a few changeups that have really impressed me, i thought it was a fringe type pitch, with his curve and fastball being bread and butter, but he has shown a good change if he can command it, and nice movement on the fastball -
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:10 AM) FWIW, the main reason I'm so big on having the 1st pick is due to the reports I had from a first-hand source at the Team USA tournament a few months ago. The reports said that Pedro Alvarez was far and away the best player, and it wasn't even close. The report also said that Danks was god awful, and Smauk is nothing special. i read in a chat, cant remember where, maybe on baseball prospectus, and whoever was running the chat said they thought alvarez was a once in a generation type talent.... to some he is the #1 next year, but ive read a handful of reports that had him pegged about 3rd...with smoak and i believe a HS pitcher ahead of him...i think the appeal of smoak is that he can play CF and turn into a grady sizemore curtis granderson type player that said i saw every home game pedro played for 2 years at vandy and saw a handful of road games, so ive probably seen him play 50+ times...and i simply think that its such a no risk pick barring huge injury that you have to take him.....offensively he has it all, patience, power, ability to hit the other way, and hit the other way with authority....when hes hot, he smokes everything, not just out of the park but i mean lasers....the biggest downside on him is that he has a tendancy to K alot, but he takes his walks as well....he walked a little less this year than last year, but i think it was cause he was young and realized he had such great power and swung hard alot....i think with a little more maturity this year hell be an absolute beast and have even better patience than he did as a freshman.....i actually like the way he tends to stay on the ball vs. lefties too, he seems to drive it hte other way to left field, but some of his power seems to go away vs. lefties, but thats to be expected. i am also down a bit on his defense at 3b....he has a rifle of an arm, but he doenst have good hands, and he doesnt have a good first step. besides, hes only gonna get bigger as time goes on and his body will dictate a move to 1b i think....he could play a corner OF spot if he keeps slender enough to retain the speed he has....that said a few of my friends, who actualyl work for the baseball team think hell be fine at 3b. hes only gonna get stronger too....supposedly when he came to vandy as a freshman he never lifted weights before and couldn't even bench 135....yet he hit 6 balls out of yankee stadium and fenway when taking BP with a wood bat in a predraft workout for those two teams... im certainly not a scout, and quite frankly i havent seen enough of college players to really know how they project to the majors, but i never thought jensen lewis would crack AA and hes been solid in the cleveland pen, and a few other guys i saw in the SEC i never thought would be as good as they have been in the minors/majors....so based on that i am not too hesitant to say that i think he will be an impact type player at the next level

broadway has given up a few flyballs that were just missed, but i must admit, ive been more impressed with his stuff so far than i thought i would ....good movement and a changeup that if he can gain command of looks like a decent pitch -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 07:10 PM) Like you said....Hill probably gets as many swings and misses on his fastball, which is around 92 mph, than pitchers who are throwing 98 and 99 mph. It's because he gets them sitting on the big, slow hook, and then he throws the high fastball past him. However, Hill is a real bad pitcher when he doesn't have that command, and throws his fastball down in the zone. Hopefully Danks develops, as I'm definitely not giving up on him. I think I was just expecting more as the season went on, especially due to how he's developed over the course of seasons in his career. yeah i def. agree, i think we got a little spoiled with danks' early outings, and quite frankly i didnt think hed slide like this...he had a good K rate early, and if anything was about unlucky with the defense we provided him...i mean the thing with danks is that hes so young still....hes really only a year older than garland when garland came into the league, and he has alreayd proven that he at least has the ability to pitch well in the majors....i think when he started off so hot, i foolishly expected a mark buerhle-esque debut where he would come up, succeed, and succeed consistently right away, which the reality is that that just isnt the norm for young pitchers -

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 07:00 PM) He has got to learn a cut fastball. A 90 mph straight fastball won't cut it in the Cell. You and I have talked at length about how bad his mechanics got once May went by the board. its all about command with danks, to me...a cutter would certainly be a weapon.....but right now to me theres really no difference in stuff between danks and lets say rich hill or even sean marshall......while those guys havent been great for the cubs, they have been very solid for young pitchers......the thing is those guys both command their curve balls much better than danks, which, at least for hill, allows him to climb the latter and get the high strikeout with his 92 mph heater on another note i really hope this late season power surge (as he had last year) doesn't fool KW or ozzie into thinking he should be the starting SS next year.....not that there are that many options...just sayin -
not that it belongs here but just for laughs the cubs have craig monroe playing in center tonight

is there a better tandem in baseball than pudge and polanco at shooting line drives the other way?
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) I meant 81 MPH rolling curveball. Needless to say, I agree with you. Floyd just threw a filthy curve to Guillen for the K one batter and half an inning after throwing several ridiculously weak curveballs last time out. He's so, so inconsistent with the good but consistent with the bad. fairly sure that was his slider....its was 84....he throws that big hook in the mid 70s
-
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) Exactlly. Floyd is pitching pretty poorly, but the Tigers are making him look decent. you guys are going a bit overboard....he threw him a bad pitch, yes, but i wouldnt say hes pitching poorly....he hasnt had command of his good curve today, but ive been encouraged with his slider (got carlos guillen twice with it) and velocity...also has spotted his fastball well....other than the pudge FO, nothing has really been hit hard off of him
-
haha i guess at least floyd didnt miss over the plate with it....especially with 1b open
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) At work tonight, have to follow on gameday. Analysis would be appreciated floyd threw a rolling breaking ball that stayed high and tight and raburn gave a weak check swing at it
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 5, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) Not to crap all over Floyd but he doesn't look too hot facing this terrible lineup. His pitches don't look that good, nor does his location. If this were a slightly better lineup, or if Ivan Rodriguez were a little more than half the man he used to be, he'd be in a huge hole. Even Hawk is ridiculing this offense. haha yeah leyland seriuosly plays his back ups probaby more than ozzie...it seems like someone like hessman or neifi (timo now) is in the lineup at least once a game for the tigers

floyds slider tonight is the best ive seen it this year
