QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) They still have some good talent. Right now they are fielding as many as 4 position players out of 9 that don't even rate as passable fringe talent. Fill in some of those holes with real talent and the team would improve dramatically. Gonzalez, Hall, Richar (his time might come, but he's not ready just yet) and Uribe are pretty much a joke. It could be worse. I would rather have B grade and F grade players than just C-, if you catch my drift. Injuries are a big part of the current mess. The importance of winning now is non-existent. It makes more sense to just check out some of the players in their system to help them properly re-load in the off season. As some posters have pointed out, bring back Crede, grab Rowand or Hunter. Try to acquire Furcal or something else that is not overweight and coachable and they may turn things around nicely. its extremely frustrating to me to see teams who fill their spots in LF and the bench with guys like frank cattalanato and bobby kielty who are solid role players while the sox seem willing to pay 10 mil for a SP, they dont seem to want to pay 2-5 for role type players like that and instead go with guys who are either wash ups like erstad, or internally with scrubs like andy gonzalez

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 09:29 PM) One thing that will improve next season is the back up catcher. This may be a major league record for ineptness. Even if Hall is brought back, there is no way he will be as bad as this season. To think AJ was worried about his playing time being cut into. people may act like this is a small deal, but you are right...backup catcher is a bigger deal than people think...we have exactly 2 RBIs from the backup catcher spot....molina had 1 in his first plate appearance in game 1 this year with a sac fly....2 RBIs is pathetic for a position that plays at least once a week

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) The thought of Jones coming in at a discount really doesn't seem realistic to me, what with Boras as his agent. Boras got Magglio a 5 year, $75 mill deal, and there was no guarantee Maggs would ever play again, let alone be a productive player. If Jones gets a discount, it will be at a shade lower than what Boras expects, which is probably 18-20 mill per over 6-7. That said, I figure you're probably looking at a 6 year, $102 mill for Jones, give or take a year or some cash. I'm not about to give that to Jones. yeah i think jones will still get a huge contract....boras will say this is a down year for him, which it is...but the fact of the matter is that jones just really has never hit for average in his career....since he hit .303 in 2000 here are his averages....251 .264 .277 .261 .263 .262 so his .222 average isn't as drastic of a fall off as it may seem.....i think i would rather have hunter who except for a bad 05, has had 25 hr every year since 01 and will hit .270 with 20 SBs, whereas andruw will probably get paid more and hit .250 with 35 HR....and i personally think hunter is the better CF today...as it seems as if andruw has lost a step or two

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 04:51 PM) I don't think there will be too many bargains. The Yankees and Texas are both in the market for CFers and both have no problem spending money. I wonder if the Sox would take Johnny Damon off the Yankees hands if the Yankees ate some of the contract. I don't even know if he can play CF anymore or LF for that matter. thats an interesting name who i believe will be available....especially after he had his mini spat with torre about being benched...i think that may have been when the yankees were playin the sox

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Supposedly Rowand is close to signing an extension. Please be true. id still rather have rowand hit the market and us not sign him.....higher supply means lower prices

Senator Larry Craig convicted of lewd conduct in men's bathroom

haha i had a pretty good laugh when i read that....something about a senator talking about his "stance" when dropping a deuce is really quite funny -
doubtful....with owens, gonzalez/cintron, and richar in the lineup everyday id say that trio will hit like 5 max the rest of the way....so basically 6 guys need to hit 45 in 31 games..... so fields thome konerko dye uribe and AJ all need to hit between 7-8 HR in 1 month......8, 7, 8, 8, 4, 5 are their monthly highs this year, so each needs to match/exceed that in the final month of the year, which is prolly not gonna happen especially considering in less than a week ryan sweeney could be taking ABs away from Dye While the power numbers from our starters have been generally disappointing....what has also been very disappointing is the fact that hall/molina, cintron, gonzalez have given us a total of 2 HR off the bench, especially considering we had light hitting scott podsednik/darrin erstad in the lineup frequently.....i mean at least cintron hit 5 last year, i know its not much but 5 extra HR could potentially win you 2 or 3 more ballgames

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) That's f***ing retarded if true. assuming fields plays Lf for the rest of the season as ozzie said, i dont have any problem with it...its not like missing an inning or two is gonna stunt his development out there

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 27, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Fields will hit 40 hrs if given a full season of work. Book it. would you say troy glaus is an accurate career projection for josh? i think its fair, but i think josh will hit for a better average, but in general pretty similar type player.....fields's swing sort of reminds me of phil nevin in his prime
-
he now has 27 HR....theres no way even the dbacks thought hed hit that many this soon he does however only have 48 RBi...which is unbelievably low...even if he does bat leadoff...i remember sammy had 35 HR with 80 RBI..which was a record low for a guy with 35 or more HR....if young has a big sept. and hits 8.....well as im typing this he hits his second of the game to give him 28 and 51....he could still shatter that record though

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) Buckvich's ERA just rose by like 1.2 im worried that the organization will look at his ERA of 4.50 and decide to bring him back...hes pitched alot worse than that 4.50 suggests....absolutely terrible peripherals

this is the absolute worst bullpen ive ever seen.........im not sure why i stupidly let myself get somewhat happy with the improvement they had been showing......at this point lets just get as high as we can for the draft

Gio Gonzalez...classiest player in the organization
daa84 replied to JPN366's topic in FutureSox Board
i suppose this is why you dont make assumptions, but i guess i assumed he had attitude problems after he got into the fight with his high school coach about his brothers playing time....i know that is what caused him to slip to the supplemental....but sounds like that was probably an isolated incident and he sounds like a good kid -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:03 PM) Calling Doctor Egbert plz, AAA theres prolly only like 1 start left at AAA, so at this point its not even worth it

White sox payroll totals since 95: 1995 39.6 mil 1996 41.9 mil 1997 54.3 mil (Albert Belle) 1998 36.8 mil (White Flag) 1999 24.5 mil 2000 31.1 mil 2001 65.6 mil (KWs first year) 2002 57.0 mil 2003 51.1 mil 2004 65.2 mil 2005 75.2 mil 2006 102.8 mil its not difficult to see that regardless of the world series victory our salaries were trending upwards....its not unreasonable to assume that the 5-7% increase in salary that the rest of baseball has experienced per year over the last few years will continue and that our payroll could end up being in the neighborhood of 115 mil....so, yes we may have to clear some payroll to sign a guy like hunter, but given the fact that baseball has become more and more profitable i dont think we will have to clear as much as some are saying

stat heads love raines and most think he should be a HOFer....not sure whether the voters will take notice, but i believe eventually he will get in as more and more writers look at things with a more sabrmetric mind

http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/draft/news/264679.html interesting to see that in the top half of that list, only the tigers, devil rays and dbacks are considered to have strong minor leagues, while teams like the angels, brewers, dodgers, rockies, A's are all toward the bottom

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) Wow. Makes the MB deal look even more awesome. + a 19 year player option for a 6th year.... im just waiting for him to blow his arm out....

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) Not to mention he can take a walk and right now has a better BB:SO ratio even if it is in limited at-bats. And Fields is very athletic and a move to LF wouldn't hurt our outfield one bit defensively or from his offensive production. I've said this alot on these boards, I've never been as excited about any sox prospect comming up (this counts Reed cause I just loved him as a fan but not as much as a potential superstar) as I am with Fields. He is going to be a major stud for us. agree on fields' offense completely.....not only his #s, but just the way he goes about his business offensively...yes he Ks alot, but as long as he takes his share of walks......already he swings at far far less bad pitches than crede...when he hit the HR in oakland the other day it was sweet to see him take two pitches just off the corner to get the count to 2-0, and then just sit dead red and unload on a fastball....offensively i like him a ton...he needs to work on D, but hes athletic enough to improve to be a pretty solid guy there.... Keith Laws perspective in his ESPN chat today.... as far as richar goes i also agree.....lets put it this way...his 8 walks so far are only 5 away from uribe's total of 13 from 2006
