  1. looks like texas got another prospect in the finalized deal.....beau jones, who was a sandwich pick in 05....texas really got a good return http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article...sp&c_id=atl
  2. sounds like its dead and the sox are now working on an extension for JD http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...ossibiliti.html
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) This move opens up a spot on the roster for Darin Erstad! f***, you are right
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) What is ML? minor leaguer, and for what its worth the padres have like the worst minor leagues in baseball....not to say we didnt get someone solid, but i doubt it
  5. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Apparently, there's no other team in on Dye so if he doesn't get traded to Boston then he's back with the Sox next year. Because they only get draft picks for him if they offer him arbitration and he turns it down. They won't and he won't so they would probably work out an extension. It looks like the Sox will take what Boston will give them. I still cannot see any reason why teh sox wouldnt offer dye arb? If they offer and he accepts...they get a pretty good player for one year at a salary that will probably be around 8 mil....if they offer and he declines they get 2 draft picks. Maybe they want to avoid the ugliness of an arbitration hearing, but personally i don't see why the sox would not offer it. Second I dont see why Dye would accept arb. He could probably get a 3 or 4 year deal for equal or more money on the FA market. Third here is what Jim Callis said about hansen 6 days ago....id much rather have delcarmen
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) SOSH posters saying ESPN and a radio show there are saying the Dye deal is happening now. They mentioned Hansen, Wily Mo and maybe Murphy (I don't know who Murphy is). david murphy? he can play center i guess so who do we trust, SOSH about the radio station in boston, or bruce?
  7. just heard on the radio (espn1000) during the eric kasilias (sp?) and screamin a smith show (two of my least favorite people) that reports out of CHICAGO were that dye for manny delcarmen was close....dont know what that means...they didnt even mention willy mo, which worries me, i would hope we would get both guys but it makes sense if the bosox get gagne...also the red sox traded piniero, so they have another spot for an arm in the pen
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) That deal only makes sense if the Yankees fully expect ARod to walk. Unless Proctor is hurt or something. i think they wanted to open a pen spot up for chamberlain also
  9. i wonder if there will be a completely unexpected trade like in 04 when we got contreras for loiaza, literally at the last minute before the trade deadline....nobody saw that coming or even thought esty was on the market
  10. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) Funny how all the Contreras talk died-with his arm I hope they are not taking valuable time trying to unload him if they can get anyone to take his contract....even for a dubee-esque pitcher i think it would be time well spent
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Why in the world would Boston want Dye to sign an extension? maybe they would play drew in center? ramirez only has 1 more guaranteed year on his contract, maybe they will slide dye to left after he leaves
  12. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 10:02 AM) Saltalamacchia is going to be awesome... especially in Texas. LaRoche's ceiling is much lower. im not a scout or anything so i guess i dont know for sure, but laroche has had better numbers at every stop in the minors, and was ranked ahead of saltalamacchia in baseball america's prospect rankings...(19 for laroche, 36 for saltalamacchia).....so i haven't really seen either play a whole lot but judging on the numbers and the experts on BA, i would rather have laroche not that you could go wrong either way...im just saying i believe that laroche is that type of prospect...in the class of or IMO slightly ahead of saltalamacchia
  13. if we can get laroche and one of hu or meloan id do it for garland.....i think its funny how people here will cream their pants over saltalamacchia, who hit all of .230 last year, but nobody seems to get excited over a guy like laroche who has been a fairly consistent .315 hitter with a .400 obp and 15-20 HR in the minors.....yes, he plays third base, but acquiring a guy like this would allow us to move fields to LF next year and maybe let crede play out his contract
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:54 PM) Sorry, But 2005 was a fluky year.. Can KW reproduce it.. I don't think so, he failed to do it before 05 and after. Ryan, had some bad year yes..but, he was building one of the best farm systems around, KW never has produced anything from our farm... Wait Sorry Fields might be, but I am not going to say Horray for one spect in 7 years. a GMs sole job isnt to develop players from the farm...its to assemble a team.... and just in case you didnt know....jenks, cotts, hermanson, politte, garcia, contreras, el duque, AJ, iguchi, dye...etc etc were are assembled by KW
  15. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) ESPN says: "The White Sox are also in a tough position because they're unlikely to offer Dye arbitration after the season, meaning they wouldn't even come away with draft picks for him." i personally think dye will be looking for a multi year deal....and he will probably find it, and will decline arbitration so i dont see why we shouldnt offer it ...either way even if we offer it and he accepts...we at least get dye for 1 year probably at near the 8 mil he makes now....theres worse things than that
  16. craig hansen was a reliever in college, and has been a reliever this entire year...so im not sure how he projects as a starter.....in addition the recent reports have been that he isnt the same guy he was at st. johns, so im not really sold on him.... also here is the scouting report from last years BA top 10 red sox prospect that had delcarmen at 8 (marte, lester, papelbon, hansen, pedroia, ellsbury, and shoppach were ahead of him, pretty good company though) from the year before From the chat with jim callis so im not sure who said hansen had that great dominating fastball...but from a stuff wise standpoint delcarmen sure holds his own
  17. now that there is a pretty substantial rumor in here, can we go ahead and move this to trade winds...and possible include something about the rumor in the title....im not sure what to think about pena....obviously his power is impressive...and he is still only 25 years old...he did hit 26 HR in only 336 ABs when he was only 22 years old...last year he hit .301 with 11 HR in 276 ABs...thats not too shabby either....hopefully he can blossom if he gets a shot to play
  18. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:38 AM) teixeira is from Baltimore!!! yeah but he played at GT.....i guess hes not necessarily local where hes from, but he was a star player at GT and most ATL baseball fans certainly knew who he was
  19. ive always been a huge teixeira fan, but that is a ton to give up for 1.5 years of him...atlanta sure does love those local kids
  20. im really surprised at the lack of actual rumors out there right now...not just with the sox but in baseball in general. it just seems like there have been more rumored deals in the past at the deadline....
  21. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 08:32 AM) agree me too...while ripken certainly deserves to be in the HOF, i always thought he was a bit overrated as a player....i dont see how he deserves to have the highest vote % of all time for the hall, but nontheless i do think the voters were right to vote him in
  22. the Ks are just really really promising from egbert, for a guy who doesn't have ace stuff to get that many Ks tells me alot about this guy....what is not to like right now? hes not giving up alot of walks, he has a ton of Ks, a great ERA, is still only 23....i guess i would like to see him at the next level...basically this guy is starting to seem to me like all the good things we saw in mccarthy, coupled with the fact that he keeps the ball in the park and on the ground, which was brandon's biggest weakness
  23. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 29, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) Bad move if you ask me. I guess they are finalizing a trade and with the player(s) they get in return, they needed the roster space. Ledezma then will be moved in a different trade. hmm i always thought ledezma could have made a pretty solid #5 type starter...obviously hes struggled recently but some team will pick him up...hes still young and lefthanded
  24. just heard on the score that kenny and ozzie were supposed to be signing autographs but aren't because are in a meeting with rick hahn....something not typical 1 hour before a game...could be something brewing here
  25. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) lol lol lol or maybe you don't fix a bullpen when your entire organization is bereft of talent. so you just ignore your biggest weakness to shore up other parts of the team? look if KW was only looking at only bullpen help and nothing more id agree with you....but i have zero problem with him looking to bolster the pen, why do you?
