  1. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 01:48 PM) Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal). Yep, and there's precedent for it as well (the nixed A-Rod-to-Red Sox deal). i understand what you mean, but those are different situations, arod alreayd had a contract and was going to give some of it back, buerhle be signing a completely new contract
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) I'm amazed they are sticking with this. Somebody is going to end up looking REALLY bad. only if its not true, am1000 wont really look bad if it is true....they just wouldnt have gotten word as fast as the score....adn htey cant report it as being true if they havent heard that yet
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Vazquez might have more value than Garland due to having more years left on his deal. I really wish we trade Thome, especially since we don't even know the extent of his back injuries (according to Hawk). yepp if we want the influx of talent, thome is def. the one to trade......sox shouldnt make the mistake they made with dye and crede, and let jim get to the last year of his contract and try to trade him because then hes simply a rental player......i have to believe the angels, yankees, mariners all would be interested....the biggest hang up would be the fact that only a few teams would actually be able to use him, because i doubt any NL team would try him at 1b
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Yep, especially with Buehrle pitching tonight, as well as the possibility we might try and complete a trade of another starting pitcher before we throw more money into the deal. great point
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) The Score has gotten dozens of things wrong over the years, while 1000 is almost always accurate on these sort of things. So yes. really? cuz i seem to remember just about everyone on this site blasting bruce levine on just about every rumor he brought up over hte last 2 years......remember the bruce levine is about as accurate as carpet bombing quotes
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:50 AM) That isn't really a denial, but not really a confirmation either... Ah the beat goes on. yeah, im not sure what to think about it.... my honest guess is that the sox tried to trade mark for cream of the crop type prospects...buccholz, hughes, salty....couldnt get the deal they wanted, and decided that rather than dealing him for anything less are now trying to resign him
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Am I being overly optimistic though if I say I think the chances are 100 pct greater today than 24 hours ago that Buehrle would stay with the Sox? not at all....
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) I've talked to someone much closer to Rocco than anyone on here, and there's a lot of concern that his physical condition has declined so much that he'll never be the player that he was capable of becoming. When you combine that with our other injury issues and the big asking price, I'd stay for away from him. you dont have to be close to anyone to have those concerns
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Ryan Howard had a cup of coffee at age 24, won Rookie Year at age 25, MVP at 26 and is currently 27. Nippert's age 27 season will be his first as a full time starter. That's scary and you rarely ever see it. yeah, i was off by a year i guess...howard didnt become an everyday player until july of 05, when he was 25,
  10. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) I'll pass on Nippert. A 26 year old pitcher with no major league experience is a non prospect. If a guy can't make the majors by age 25 then he's a non prospect IMO. like ryan howard
  11. just a completely unrelated note.....i think most people on this board realize it, but to me curtis granderson is just a tick below sizemore (tho hes having a better year this year, i still like sizemore better long term) and gets no pub nationally...
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) BTW....this trade would never happen, as Sizemore might be the biggest untouchable there is in baseball. Please keep my blood pressure down everyone, and don't suggest that this could actually happen. haha no its not even a rumor...boers and bernstein were just asking stone and it was stones opinion that cleveland would do it apparrently, which to me would be mindboggling if you are the indians
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) I just said he wasn't the best. I think Gallardo has passed him up, but thats just me. I'm not saying he's not in the first couple though (I think him and Homer Bailey are just behind Gallardo of the Brewers). Again just my two cents and arguing whether your the 1st or 3rd best pitching prospect in the game is so unimportant (so I say we both agree that he's a potential front of the rotation guy). yeah, i get what you are saying now....i thought you were tryin to say hes not a top prospect type guy....yeah i could see gallardo or bailey ahead of him...and you are dead right, it doenst matter who is the better prospect....sorry, i just misinterpreted your post, i was more responding to the guy who said that hed rather have some of the yankees other prospects
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) I can see that Jenks would have value, but am I the only one who doesn't exactly understand why he would have that much value? He's cheap, talented, and young, yes, but Saltalamacchia and Sizemore? Guess if you could, you have to. especially sizemore....hes already established that he can not only hit in the majors but hit very well, salty i could understand...because he hit .230 last year and still has alot to prove...even though he is still a very good prospect QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) I'd stick him in the 3 hole and find my leadoff hitter elsewhere. yeah either way....id trade an allstar closer with an injury history for an allstar center fielder any day of the week...i personally think stone must have been delusional when he said that or something
  15. a guy that will get you 600 quality ABs as a leadoff hitter and had the most extra base hits in the majors last year for a fat pitcher who throws 1 inning in 60 games a year? yeah sign me up please
  16. last i checked phil hughes was one of, if not the highest ranked pitching prospect in the game...i dont know why some of you would want the other yankees guys over him....that said im sure the yankees wouldnt be willing to trade him QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) Hughes isn't the best pitching prospect in baseball though, imo. He's very good but there is no guarantee of success (even based on the one good start he had with the Yanks). And no I think the odds are slim, still you never know what could happen (but in all liklihood it would have to involve Cashman basically being told by Kenny that he's going to the Red Sox unless you step up your offer). you dont have to trust it, and dont take this personally, but i trust baseball america on thier analysis of prospects more than anyone on this message board.... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prosp...res/263445.html
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) Buehrle, Contreras, Thornton, Mackowiak, Dye god i hope we are able to trade all of them
  18. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) Does anyone know what happened to Huberto Sanchez? The pitcher the Yankees got from DET for Sheffield. I know KW was high on him. hes out the year....tommy john i believe....
  19. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) So, the sox homegrow Buehrle and Garland, and will eventually lose both. They develop those guys and when they get to their primes, cut-and-run. This is a good strategy? How many more guys didn't work out as homegrown talent. You have to hold onto the ones that do work out. I liked getting Garcia and Contreras, but Vazques is a bust. And , Garcia is already gone. thats funny because vazquez was tied for 32nd in the league last year with 14 QS, only 2 behind buerhle and contreras, and 3 behind garland, and i think most people would hesitate to call a guy who has a 4.15 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP, 10th in the leauge in Ks, and is on pace to eat up 200 innings a bust...... look, chris young is a great young talent, but people blast vazquez way too much...beyond his fluky streak where he couldnt get through the 6th inning last year, hes been a pretty solid pitcher for the sox....not an ace, and not great, but hes been pretty valuable
  20. starting pitchers, especially those who have racked up as many IP in the past years as buerhle, tend to get injured...KW and his staff have done their research, they aren't the only ones.....the A's, twins, indians, etc. none of them are willing to sign pitchers to long term deals because quite simply the risk factor in them breaking down at some point is so great..... its the same reason so many people we shocked that pedro got his deal...and look he already basically has blown an entire years salary sitting on the sidelines injured this year now i know mark is younger and has had a better injury history than pedro, but i was just using that as an example...
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) OPS should be .667, but everywhere I've seen it says .668. slg and obp are probably rounded down....ie his obp is probably .3024 and his slg is probably .3652.....when you add em you get .6676 which rounds to .668
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) Quentin is iffy. I don't like him unless you are getting Chris Young...another top prospect, plus Quentin. He fits more as a 3rd guy in the trade (high upside, but he's struggled and lost some value) with the other two being top notch high ceiling prospects. theres about a 0% chance arizona trades young, a top prospect and quentin for anything unless the package they get in return is something like santana and mauer or morneau
  23. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:25 AM) I think that is why he didn't go to the DL. that was my thought as well
  24. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) He should be. His value right now is sky high, and I don't think he will be a dominate force in this league, as his constant velocity drops worry me. I don't think Jenks can be very effective in this league unless he throws 96+, and he has been barely hitting 94-95 this season. Right now, he is relying on hitting his spots, but if he misses his spots, he will get hit hard. I wonder if the Braves would be interested in giving up Salty for Jenks. i have to disagree.....with the hammer jenks has he can get by easily throwing 95...what does joe nathan throw? 94-96 with a good curve....ditto tom gordon in his prime....not saying jenks is mariano rivera, but he is without a doubt one of the top dozen or so closers in this league.... that said i wouldnt be opposed to trading him, but you would have to get just a ton in return....you would be giving up a top closer, who is cheap and under control for a while......so basically, the reasons that are decreasing MBs trade value are working in jenks' favor here, so you would only entertain trading him for a minimum of two top prospects...
  25. QUOTE(heirdog @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 11:17 AM) Is it fair to say that Chris Young is better that BA, Sweeney and Owens at this point? Also, if it took Chris Young to get the trade done, then the comparison should be Vasquez + one of the 3 guys above vs. El Duque and Chris Young in the rotation and line-up respectively and I think I would take the Vasquez and one of the guys above. The unfortunate part is that we don't get one of the 3 above consistently, we get Terrero, Gonzalez, Erstad and Mackowiak. owens is simply not a prospect....certainly not in the light of chris young and ryan sweeney.....anderson is a mess right now and in danger of losing his status as a future major leaguer....it is certainly fair to say young is better than owens and anderson....maybe not sweeney as much, but given the choice straight up 30/30 GMs would take young over sweeney.....that said sweeney could turn out to be the better player, but thats unlikely
