  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:28 PM) ESPN piece on KW. KW isnt gonna give up, but he knows if we dont go 14-5 to get back to .500 (as someone in another thread suggested) by the break to give us at least a s***ty chance at the WC, that we have 0 hope.....that said he doenst have to sell now, but he should at least feel for what should be out there in a couple of weeks when he will officially stick the fork in us
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) 12 of the next 19 games the Sox play are against opponents with a superior record. yeah, i honestly dont see it happening...about 4 weeks ago we were a few over .500 and i looked at the schedule and saw KC, a struggling yankee team, the cubs, oakland at home, tampa bay, a struggling minnesota, an injured toronto, yanks again, a bad houston team, an NL team that cant pitch in the phils, a bad pitt team....and i thought we could be 10-13 games over by then....we went 12-23 over that stretch
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) 1.) Who exactly is available that you know of via trade? If there were some above average defensive player who could provide adequate offensive production I'd be all for replacing Uribe but I really don't think such a player is available. 2.) Considering the park the Sox play in and the current state of the pitching staff I think the Sox need an above average defender at short more than they need another bat in the lineup so any replacement for Juan is going to have to be a plus defender. 1.) not sure who is out there....maybe if we trade dye a guy like aybar becomes available since wood is waiting in the wings and cabreras is there now, but i doubt it ...maybe an alex gonzalez, or a brendan harris, or a pipe dream offseason scenario where KW fills dye's bat with tejada...maybe this thread wasnt exactly this right spot for my post, i guess i wasnt suggesting we get X or Y instead of juan, but simply venting my frustration saying id like to see uribe take a hike...i guess i just find it funny that royce clayton got roasted for hitting .260 with a handful of homers and SBs, and elite D, and uribe gets such a pass for doing basically the same thing, with a few more HR 2.) considering the fact that the sox have scored the fewest amount of runs in the league, by alot, and with one of our "big bats" in JD leaving next year, i feel this team has a huge offensive void to fill

    6/18 Games

QUOTE(29thandPoplar @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) I wonder how bad Anderson's shoulder/arm is. They have him at DH and he is not doing well. 147 AB's now and a .238 average. injury or not, andersons future is certainly in doubt...the guy hasnt consistently hit in 2 years....and to those who will respond, its not ozzies fault
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) So his 15 BB's, which is already 5 more than he had all of last year, must me he just swings at everything. And his defense easily makes up for the offense he "lacks." I don't jump on Javy, but Uribe is one of the best defensive SS in the MLB, and what he gives you on offense is a great plus. Now, of course, I'd love to get a better SS for next season, but it's not likely to happen, judging by whats available. completely disagree with both....... Uribe has a -5.0 VORP this year, and while i certainly dont take that as the holy bible, he was also negative last year, and VORP does take into account defense....... other sabrmetric stats, while in the past have had uribe as an elite fielder, have him being slightly above average this year....5 runs above replacement (FRAR) and actually 2 runs below average (RAA). He has a middle of the road ZR (7th in AL) but 2nd in RF (which i personally feel is a stat that depends more on the pitchers...ie GB vs. FB) as far as his offense, i simply can't agree with the statement that what he has given us is a great plus by any means...i understand the fact that you want a guy who plays great D, and the O is a bonus, but to compete in this division you simply can't have a guy who offensively has no speed, no on base ability, and little to sporadic power, plus the fact that he would be making 5 mil.... in my opinion he is certainly a good defender still, one of the better ones int he league, but i feel his offense is too much of a liability for this team...and i feel like the upgrade we would make offensively is worth more in the run differential and win column than a downgrade to even replacement level defender, especially considering uribe would make 5 million now i agree with the assessment that there isnt much out there on the horizon in terms of FA, but i think if KW can upgrade via trade he has to consider cutting ties with uribe for the benefit of the team QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) this sums up how I feel about Uribe perfectly In the worst case scenario, you have a player in Uribe who is probably going to put up something like .210/.250/.400/.650 with outstanding defense, with the potential for a .280/.330/.500/.830 line along with his outstanding defense, and it can go everywhere in between too. With almost every other option, you are going to get the same floor with a lower ceiling and worse defense. not saying the other options on that list are acceptable, there are other means to acquiring players, but looking at uribes offensive trends over hte past four years...not good... 04 05 06 07 .283 .252 .235 .213 average .327 .301 .257 .278 obp right now i would say hes much closer to being the .210/.250/.400 than the .280/.330/.500 that he has flashed once in his career 3 years ago
  6. i can't believe you guys actually want uribe back....his ops is barely over .600 this year, and his obp last year was .257! i really have grown so sick of this guy....and he gets off so easily on this board...people jump all over guys like vazquez on this borad, who is at least a league average pitcher...but the fact that uribe may be one of the worst offensive players in teh majors goes largely unnoticed...at least last year he hit HR and 2b....but this year he has all of 11 extra base hits and 15 BBs....in short...thats horrendous...he still plays good D, but his defense isnt what it was back in 04 and 05....and certainly his D doesn't make up for his poor offense ...now dont get me wrong, i dont think andy gonzalez deserves to be anywhere near a major league field, but i dont think juan uribe is 4.7 million dollars better than him, or especially richar, who at least could add the dimension of speed, which uribe should be able to but cant
  7. well we should have a decent amount of money to toss around....i believe we still have some saved money from garcia, though i know alot of that went to increasing salaries, but take away dye buerhle and iguchi and thats 20 million.....potentially trade away a guy like contreras, and now we are talking big bucks to spend.....not to mention i pray to god we dont pick up that 5 mil option on uribe....we could have alot of money to spend, but then again we have plenty of holes to fill as well....but the money saved from the expiring contracts of those guys we will either trade or not sign will be huge to fielding the 08 team..... looks like 2b and C are unusually deep...at least for those positions
  8. QUOTE(Reddy @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) hope these storms dont move in too badly... i'm gonna be there too

    Pods?

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Pods is having a good year save for the injury. that's his pattern. bad year, good year, bad year, good year. last year was a bad year. 2005 was a great year for him. this year he's hitting over .300. he will impress when he's back in the line up. how could he not given how poorly jerry owens performed? this will allow erstad to hit further down in the line up where he belongs. i love how people think the bad year good year thing is a trend and not a statistical coincidence
  10. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 03:09 PM) I like Gomez a lot myself. In the end, it takes at least 2 elite prospects to get Buehrle, one being a pitcher. And that my friends is the BARE BONES MINIMUM. No chance in hades that we deal Mark for a lone OF prospect. i agree, which is why i like gomez a bit better i think....the odds of a milledge + pitching prospect aren't as good as a gomez + prospect........ milledge + pelfrey isnt realistic....but gomez + humber might be
  11. milledge is nice, but they have some other options i wouldnt mind either....carlos gomez was speculated by olney in his chat if not milledge....fernando martinez is interesting as well

  13. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) I forgot Rob Pelinka was his agent. He went to Lake Forest High School and played basketball at Michigan. I remember him when he played at Lake Forest. trib said this morning that kobe has full no trade and is willing to accept a trade to only 3 teams...the bulls and knicks being 2 of them
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) So far this year, he has been a stud for Class A Daytona. 0-5, 5.75 ERA in 11 starts. 51.2 IP, 76 hits, 16 walks, 20 k's, .350 average against. How much did they pay this clown again in round 2, thus taking projected 18th rounder Tyler Colvin in the 1st to save money? lol. it was the fifth round....and 20 K's in 52 IP in A ball is horrendous
  15. im sorry i chose albert belle over you
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) Hmmmm; One AL executive actually said that after Buehrle, he thinks the best starter who will be traded would be Baltimore’s Steve Trachsel. Yeesh. great news for us in terms of milledge....i will never understand the ridiculous hype around this guy...hes a good prospect, maybe very good, but any prospect who plays for boston or either new york team gets so hyped up in the media its ridiculous
  17. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 16, 2007 -> 09:21 PM) He hasn't played since May 20 because of injury. well i guess i havent been following too closely then
  18. no getz in the bham lineup...could he be getting a callup? or injured? just a day off? anyone know?
  19. phil rogers on dunn... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:46 PM) trade Thome. Sox score 420 runs next season. as opposed to the 550 they will score with him? and then what, wait for him to be in a contract year and another year older thus diminishing his stock even more..... maybe im giving up too much on 08 already, but unless KW spends some $$ this offseason this team isnt close to contending next year and you really gotta question how long thome will be around
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Now I just heard on Baseball Tonight that Seattle would be VERY interested if Buehrle became available, they ened some starting pitching apparently (Ramirez and Batista not good enough for you Bavasi?). Jerry Crasnick said this about Seattle; Well in order for the Mariners to make a suitable offer for Buehrle, you'd think Jones would have to be included as a minimum. The Sox always have the option of taking 2 draft picks instead. How about people feel about a Jones, Jeff Clement and Yung - Chi Chen offer from the M's for Buehrle? Jones has been compared to Mike Cameron without the walks basically. Acquiring him would certainly make Anderson expendable for some young pitching. Jones has splits of .317/.392/.581 in the PCL, Clement has splits of .244/..340/.469 in the PCL (albeit he's been rushed), and Chen had splits of .342/.388/478 in AA and he's just been moved up. Can play 2B/SS. Brandon Morrow would also be nice, but I'm not sure the M's would move him. theres some talk about all this in the buerhle thread...
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) With Buehrle...put a gun to GM's heads, he will be the best pitcher on the trade market. yeah but i dont see them trading cano...maybe tabata
  23. i said in another thread i think we should move him....we arent gonna contend in 08, and his option wont be picked up in 09...so trade him now while he has his highest stock....anaheim would be an excellent fit
  24. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) How about Clement, Morrow, and another B prospect for Buehrle? I'd do that. i thought i remember readin somewhere that some scouts were pretty hohum on clement, especially is ability to catch...but still hes got power, and i obviously like morrow....jones and morrow would be like a dream to get in a package for mark
  25. i think they could maybe get kenendy and cabrera, but certainly not both and cano.....
