  1. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:48 AM) It's been a long time since the Brew Crew has been in a World Series. They might want to really go for it if they get anywhere close. They have had many years of suckatude. They owe it to the fans to take the shot. If I were a Brewer fan and the organization allowed my team to miss the playoffs or be one and done without attempting to mortgage a bit of the future for a talent like Buehrle, I'd be pissed. I'm sure they will have many high draft picks in future years. Also, JR and Selig are friends. I do not know if that would help anything. the brewers are in great position to make it to the playoffs not only this year, but in years to come as well....and i doubt they would sacrifice too much of that for half a year of buerhle, btu we will see
  2. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) Buehrle straight up for Adam Jones. do it
  3. QUOTE(max power @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) You ever wonder why they have the draft during the season as opposed to the off season? I do they have it at the end of the high school/college season so players who are looking to college can decide between that or the draft
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 07:50 AM) KW may also be trying to free up cap room to make a run at Ichiro or A-Rod in the off-season, which makes sense. If you can save around $20M in contracts in Buehrle and Contreras, get 4,5,6 top prospects for them, and sign one of the guys above, it could bring the team back quite a bit. i agree, this team is not as hard to rebuild as it may appear...even before we struggled this year there were rumors that KW was positioning himself to get Arod by trading garcia and not spending money this past offseason
  5. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) one more FRANK! i think this thread deserves to be pinned....good luck big man
  6. QUOTE(Al Lopez @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 06:27 AM) Rogers has flip-flopped on the Garcia and McCarthy trades several times now. If you searched the Tribune archives, about 6 weeks ago he wrote a column saying 'I admit I was wrong to criticize these moves.' Screw him. yeah honestly both of those trades look like we won right now....floyd is pitching well in AAA and looks like he will fill in for buerhle once he leaves...add in that gio has established himself probably as a top 20 pitching prospect in teh game....and obviously danks alone looks like a better pitcher than mccarthy... he does have a point thought that KW did fail to address other needs, but you certainly cant blame him for doing those two trades, and saving 9 million dollars in doing so
  7. http://www.nypost.com/seven/06252007/sport...george_king.htm joba would be very nice...especially if he comes at the price of someone not named buerhle also...from the trib
  8. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Do you think he could play RF, is his arm strong enough? How is his strike out rate? yeah he def. has the arm strength he had close to the best arm of any 3b i saw on the college level all year...he Ks quite a bit, but its something you live with given the fact that he walks and hits for power.....hes not adam dunn bad, but like most lefties it seems hes susceptible to the breaking ball down and in
  9. QUOTE(Omar Minaya @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 12:52 AM) it was quite a challenge getting through the registration process. I thought after slaying the dragon it would get easier, but jesus it just got harder and harder!! oh, nevermind, all I had to do was enter my e-mail address and a user name and a password. very difficult. i understand that you're not going to be very receptive to the idea of not being to get as much back for buerhle as you'd like, as that's all you have to look forward to this year. but don't worry, there's always next year, and you guys definitely have a young, solid nucleus to build around. oh... anyways, simmons says there's a 5 year grace period, so try and wait out the next 3. last time i checked, the last time you guys were in a world series you were getting your s*** kicked in, swept away by the yankees....last time we were there i believe we swept the team that took 3 of 4 from the team that finished 7 up on you guys in your division..... why dont you go back to your now mediocre sports town and have fun watching the yankees spend millions to be average, your mets to win a division once every 20 years, and then reconcile that with your powerhouse knicks giants and jets btw 40-120 as for your original point, i honestly think you are right that we wont get 2 of your top prospects...but the fact that reports from atlanta have said that the braves have already offered saltalamacchia means that if you want buerhle, you better be giving one of those top guys and probably a lesser, B type prospect as well
  10. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) Are there any for next season? Looking around, there are no free agents or prospects that would really be an upgrade over Uribe. Are there any good SS prospects that are MLB ready but being blocked by someone on the ML level, meaning that they could be had for via a trade? erick aybar is behind orlando cabrera and brandon wood is coming soon.....wood or aybar could probably be had, but only for buerhle probably, as the angels never trade prospects...er at least rarely
  11. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) The hold up is probably this trade becoming a three way. KW must be insisting on Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett being part of this deal. fixed......ok i know that joke is vastly overused, but i couldnt resist
  12. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Can this be interpreted as GM criticism of Ozzie's line up? the fact that gonzalez has gotten more ABs in the last few games than mackowiak is a horrid job of mismanagement by ozzie....andy shouldnt even be at AAA, let alone the bigs and starting almost everyday...i hate to play the race thing but i honestly feel ozzie plays him only because he is hispanic...ill prolly get blasted now but gonzalez primarily played SS his entire career in the minors, and now he comes up and takes ABs away from mackowiak instead of uribe???????
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) A good point was made on a Red Sox board. The Sawks seem to make it a habit of obsessing over certain players then overpaying for them when given the opportunity to bring them in. JD Drew, Julio Lugo and Covelli Crisp being examples of this. This is not the first time Epstein has gone after Buehrle, he made an offer for him this offseason. I don't think it's that far-fetched to make the assumption that Epstein and CO. REALLY want Buehrle. The Red Sox giving up big time talent for Buehrle does seem to be a realistic possibility as Epstein goes after his guy. buerhle, while not a high K guy, is the type of pitcher sabrmetric teams like the red sox and bill james have identifieid as "under market value" types....ground ball pitchers who throw strikes and eat up lots of innings....it would make sense that they would try to trade for him and extend him....and if the red sox are extending him, i would hope for nothing less than buccholz and another guy like lowrie in return
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 24, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) Crisp is guaranteed $11M over the next two seasons and hasn't shown even a mediocre batter's eye since 2005. I want no part of that. sounds alot like jacque jones
  15. buccholz would be unbelievable.....100Ks in 74 IP with only 18 BB in AA.....are you kidding me?
  16. according to rosenthall there are about 10 teams that have talked to the sox about buerhle, including the brewers, braves, red sox, mets, mariners, and cardinals
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 23, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) I don't know much about next years draft, but a lot of people here are talking about the SS from Vandy. 5-tool player supposedly, who has a great speed and power combo, and pick it on defense. pedro, featured in my avatar, is a 3b....i saw him play almost every one of his home games hte past two years and a handful of raod games....heres what i can tell you about him.... his bat is plus plus....truely an ideal type hitter...patient at the plate (57 BBs as fresh, 40 as soph in ~ 260 ABs), power to all fields, (22 and 18 HR)...but he is also a good high average hitter who hits the ball hard all the time....339 and .386 BA....i wouldnt really say he has plus speed, but for a big strong guy he can move and swipe a base, but thats something that probably wont project as much in the majors... defense...pedro has the arm to stay at third, no doubt about that...but id question his hands and range at the next level...i wouldnt at all be suprised if he moved to either 1b or the OF in the majors, but his bat should easily allow him to play either position....i personally feel he will be an alex gordon type prospect right away, because he is so polished and has such great power at the plate
  18. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07175/796740-63.stm salty wouldnt be bad
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 21, 2007 -> 07:34 AM) Who are these players that the Marlins and Rockies can offer? I am just wondering. Are we looking for more pitching? What? rockies are stacked...ian stewart, greg reynolds, ubaldo jimenez.....#2 ranked farm system according to BA.. that said we arent getting 3 top prospects....id consider 2 top prospects a victory
  20. the prospect they got in return has been bad this year, but he was a high draft pick (sandwich, 35th overall) in last years draft outa high school and is only 19....not saying hes a great prospect or anything, but potential is there i suppose
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 10:45 AM) Broadway as a major leaguer strikes me as more of a Jeremy Sowers than a Jon Garland. Atleast Garland manages to K 110+ hitters per season. a right handed sowers was actually the exact comparison i was thinking
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 07:17 AM) If you can hit your spots, you can get away with it. I don't know what Broadway looks like, but Garland doesn't strike out many, and he does just fine. yeah, but heavy sinker ballers such as garland, wang, gudain are the exception to that rule...from what i know i dont think broadway falls into that category but i might be wrong
  23. the lack of K's doesnt translate well into the majors...hes gonna need to miss more bats against better competition....which is why i wouldnt mind the sox "selling high" on him....though i agree i think as he matures a bit the Ks wil increase
  24. QUOTE(Wanne @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) As well as Javy IMO. Resigning Mark is a must I think and build around Mark, Garland and Danks...and go from there. All this talk about rebuilding the rotation for the upcoming years...really makes me regret they didn't have the naddies to take Porcello. well procello is probably 3 years away at least i would think
  25. my guess is that the only way we resign buerhle is if KW is somehow able to find a way to deal contreras before the deadline
