QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Some good Konerko numbers coming into today: For the Season: .271/.366/.514/.880 Since April 23rd: .294/.381/.569/.950 (73 G) 18 2B, 18 HR, 39 BB, 46 SO Since May 19th: .333/.427/.650/1.077 (52 G) 16 2B, 14 HR, 31 BB, 29 SO Since June 4th: .343/.442/.701/1.143 (39 G) 13 2B, 12 HR, 25 BB, 21 SO Since July 1st: .377/.484/.830/1.314 (15 G) 9 2B, 5 HR, 11 BB, 8 SO Now add another HR and these numbers look even more remarkable. yeah, i mean i think most knew all along paulie would hit, he hit 35 HR each of the last three years, its just the thing that is so frustrating about him is that he can be prone to extended slumps like the beginning of this year and the start of 03

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) All you need is his money (which is limitless), and there's no cap in baseball. this isnt necessarily true...you also have to be willing to spend the money.....carl pohlad is worth more than cuban, but clearly doesnt spend much money on his team because it doenst bring in as much revenue....that said, cubs bring alot more money in than the twins, and im sure cuban would be willing to cut profit in order to have a winner

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) I think its being really naive to think there's the slightest possibility that Tank's blood test will be negative. The Bears have more info than any of us, and they stood behind him when a SWAT team surrounded his house. They aren't going to release him for going 40 mph in a 25 mph zone. tank was under the legal limit.... his BAC was .072 which is just under the legal limit of .08......so tank did not break the law....

Anyone have any advice on where to sit, what to eat, what to see, where to park or anything at Comerica, PNC or Great American? Also, anyone ever been to Canton? Since the Detroit game is a day game we have some time to kill between there and pittsburgh and we were thinkin about stopping at the pro football HOF. Any input or advice would be appreciated, im really lookin forward to this

Curtis Granderson's assault on a 93 year old AL record
daa84 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in The Diamond Club
comerica is maybe the most triple friendly park in the bigs, that said 15 triples is still ridiculous...i believe that would have led the majors in like the last 5 years.....either way comerica isnt as triple friendly as parks back in the day were, so what granderson is doign is nuts....hes 4th in the league in slugging (mainly because of those triples, but his 22 doubles would easily lead the white sox as well)...hes on pace for 45 doubles, 22 homers, 31 triples, 18 SBs, 118 R, and 84 RBI......and hes 26 and bats leadoff....give this guy some more national pub, i can't believe leyland took sizemore over granderson this year....and why are all the "final vote roster spots" pitching this year? -

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:01 PM) While Buehrle and the White Sox had agreed on a four-year, $56 million contract extension, the deal disintegrated because the Sox won’t give the 28-year-old left-hander a full no-trade clause. In the grand scheme of things, that seems like a ludicrous deal-breaker. And surely, the Sox will budge, right? “No,’’ White Sox general manager Kenny Williams told the Daily Herald in an e-mail Saturday night. “I cannot build a championship team if I do. The short-term and long-term ramifications are just too great.’’ Does this asshole even know what he's talking about!! Last time I looked if your plan is to build a championship team, I would think locking a a solid No.1 starter would be a priority. Especially if you are signing him to a lower than market value contract, and only 4 years. I'm done with this guy. He's an arrogant and pmpous ass!! He reminds me so much of Jerry Krause it's makes me sick. The short and longterm ramifications are just to great?? Give me a f***ing break. This whole situation with Buerhle just makes me realize that our GM doesn't have a clue. That's it KW build a rotation around JC and JV, you f***ing moron!! yeah krause and williams never won anything

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Not only is he one of the best relievers in the game, he's one of the best personalities as well. The Legend lives on. i know hes been killer on lefties...but 20 IP this year with a 4.09 ERA makes you one of hte best relievers in the game, i hope you were joking -
looks like floyd really struggled with command today...6 BB in 5 IP isnt so good, he did K 6 and only gave up 3 hits and 2 runs....but youd like to see his walks decrease
-
no trade clauses are not small parts of the contract like most you are saying. They are actually pretty big. Contreras has one, and said he was willing to waive it if the team wanted him to leave, which everyone on this site said was huge. Not having a NTC allows us to deal buerhle to a contender should we be in this same situation 4 years down the line, or 3 years during the offseason to bring in alot of young talent. Even if it is a conditional NTC it eliminates a great deal of the demand that would be out there for him. all that said i think the sox should give him the NTC, but its not just some clause that you give out on every and any contract.... i think a big reason they wont give it to him is because the sox already are giving him the extra year, so maybe they planned on trading him before his contract expires
-
part of me doenst wonder if this was all planned....get the word out there that buerhle was willing to sign for only 4 years 56 mil....and teams would be more willing to trade for him hoping he would be a much easier sign

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) Boone Logan has become a rock solid part of our bullpen. for better or for worse. yeah hes been very good....when he gets his breaking ball over against lefties hes tough to hit

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 08:46 PM) Thank you for being one of the few who actually understand what we are talking about. I never knew the Chris Benoit outside of wrestling. I enjoyed his matches and his work. He is scum and will rot in hell and rightfully so, but it doesn't make me feel any less of his matches with Liger or anyone else. i still dont necessarily think its the right thing to do, however, to really try to relive those memories right now, but say Mark Buerhle or Paul Konerko were the ones to do this...it would certainly be hard to cope with the fact that some players that i loved for winning a world series were being cast as such villians...that said Benoit is a scumbag, but i recognize that it is difficult for some to come to those terms and to simply forget what he may have done for wrestling
-
The only wrestling I've ever watched has been the stuff at the high school and college level...and quite frankly I can't stand professional wrestling....however i dont think that means i cant post here, as this is certainly a situation and topic that goes beyond professional wrestling....and here are my thoughts.... Not sure why so many people are so mad around here. As unfair as it may be, you can't complain if the media negatively portrays pro wrestling as a result of this. Chris Benoit as far as i know was an employee of WWE, and therefore his actions, positive or negative, reflect on pro wrestling. Just like when ozzie called mariotti a "f**," that reflected poorly on the entire chicago white sox organization. Therefore, this is entire situation is certainly a cloud that hangs over professional wrestling. That said, this is clearly not indicitive of how pro wrestlers are. Clearly, these types of things have happened to people in many different professions. I do believe, however (as with all sports) that wrestling in particular has a high rate of steroid use. I believe that this along simply with the nature of the sport (or whatever you want to call it...whether it is or isnt a sport is completely irrelevant in this thread) that it has created a culture in which the use of steroids, pain killers, and other drugs is more commonplace than in the rest of society. As many of you have said, the same can be said for the NFL as well as other leagues. But the high rate of death at an early age for pro wrestlers, whether you like it or not, should be a concern. I'm not sure and certainly not qualified to speak to the level of drug testing in pro wrestling, but i would have to imagine that something should probably be done in order to help protect the safety of the wrestlers off the mat. That said, I don't think anyone necessarily defended Chris Benoit in this thread. I understand that LCR was remember the character and personality that benoit portrayed in the ring, as opposed to Benoit as an individual. What I think is important to remember, in any form of sports or entertainment is that what we see on TV is not the person's individual life. I, like some others in this thread, cannot call this guy anything but a disturbed, completely horrible, scumbag of a person for what he did, regardless of whatever greatness he may have achieved on tv. I understand it is hard to deal with this when the Chris Benoit many wrestling fans knew may have been a hero or an extremely well liked individual. However, it is time to let go of those emotions. Now I am not sure who had what in their avatar or sig, but I personally would find it rather disgusting and inappropriate to have a picture or some sort of tribute to anyone (their character or the real person) who could murder two innocent people, especially by strangling them. Strangling someone takes such passion and is obviously something not done by accident...the emotion it must take to kill someone as they try to resist with their last ounces of life is unimaginable. All that said, I feel sorry for wrestling fans as this certainly portrays negatively on the WWE, just as it would on the mlb had this been a baseball player that comitted this act.
