  1. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) The sox should be able to get one of the best players not on the Cubs 40 man roster for Pods. Such as LHP Carmen Pignatiello. He's not on the Cubs 40 man roster. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/P/C...natiello-.shtml pignatiello is a providence guy...he played with honel, he was drafted a year ahead though...hes a little old and i dont think he is supposed to have that high of a ceiling.
  2. steve stone filling in for DJ, should be interesting
  3. i guess they will keep on OF of brynes young and upton...i guess they have really soured on carlos quentin and dont think jackson will cut it in the OF...but even with that cluster jam you have carlos gonzalez not too far off....maybe they will try to move upton back to the IF ?
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) Hm. The legends grows. Actually, since he is 21 and entered the minors at (I think) 19... it is entirely possible he has in fact grown since he entered the system. Some kids are still getting taller at 19 and 20. supposedly david robinson grew 5 inches while at the naval academy, which is why he didnt have to serve his 5 years...too tall
  5. for a guy who was cut by the orioles not too long ago brynes has turned himself into a solid player....im not so sure he will keep it up though
  6. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) I didn't know Gio was that good with his change up. Good to hear. me neither....its definitely good to hear....he should be able to get righties out if he can command the changeup, to me he sounds like danks, but with a better ability to get K's
  7. QUOTE(iamshack @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Don't forget that guy Leo. overrated IMO.......its easy to be a pitching coach with maddux glavine and smoltz in their primes....yes some other guys like russ ortiz, steve avery had good years under mazzone, and this is not to suggest that he is not a good pitching coach, i just always felt like he got too much credit for the braves success
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan77 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) Can you say.. 100mil 5th place team.. I bet you can. funny because the only difference between taht lineup and the 4th place lineup the sox have right now is pods and sweeney, which is close to a wash, and tejada >>>>>> uribe.....so im not seeing how we go from 4th to 5th by making those moves
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 01:53 PM) Inge is arguably the best third defensive third baseman in the AL -- Fields is going to have his range? I don't think so. Fields doesn't have nearly the range that Crede had. It's not because of athleticism, that's for sure, so I'd guess it's about instincts and having a quick first step. He also doesn't have Crede's hands. The best thing I can say about Fields is when he's forced to come in and barehand a ball, say on a bunt -- he's done a spectacular job on those. Fields reminds me of David Wright -- a pretty good athlete who still has some work to do. With that said, I still wouldn't move Fields from third -- besides maybe for next season, as dumping Crede would be pointless. Even if he becomes average (I'd say he's slightly below as of right now), his bat is more valuable there than in the OF. i agree 100%...its a big part of th reason why i would be hesitant to move fields to the OF next year, because long term i think he'll be adequate enough to play 3b, which fills a huge hole for the sox, and im worried that a move out there next year would mean a permanent move to the OF
  10. rock, im right there with you...tejada is a great player, and i can't understand why someone wouldn't want him....people act like hes a butcher in the field, hes actually a fairly solid defensive SS
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) He still will go back through waivers again. And most likely we will claim him again right? The sox could use Miggy's energy, leadership and bat IMO. im pretty sure if you are taken off waivers you can't be placed back on....so tejada will be an O until the offseason for sure
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Not a bad outing for Sisco. I still have hope for him. At least he's on the right track now, in terms of being a starter, and being able to develop more control and those secondary pitches. not saying sisco will ever be a major league starter, but this team could have alot of options for a #5 starter or a guy who can make some emergency starts should someone go on the DL....in 1 year sisco, broadway, egbert, gio, haeger in addition to floyd could all be realistic possibilities to start games in the majors.....also masset could too
  13. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) Owens CF Erstad RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Fields 3B Podsednik LF Uribe SS Richar 2B that could be the lightest hitting outfield ever
  14. i actually am not sure how i feel about this move...my biggest concerns for this D are at safety....lets face it, mike brown is injury prone, so depth is important....in addition archuleta was horrible in washington....yes it wasnt the same system, and archuleta is supposedly much better in cover 2, but he was getting beat in washington with his coverage skills, and im not sure i trust that he will be able to cover half the deep field as well as he did a few years ago in st. louis.....after that manning is solid, and i assume the bears must think highly enough of brandon mcgowan and rookie kevin payne to let harris go....those guy i suppose could be better ballplayers than harris....im not saying chris harris was a great player, but this was a guy who started 20 games in just 2 seasons in teh NFL and that experience is somewhat valuable.... oh well...it probably won't matter too much, but if brown gets injured and archuleta stinks again we could be in trouble
  15. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) If the Sox acquired Tejada without moving any other players with big league contracts, that would push the guaranteed money for 2008 to about $92.125M for 11 players. That would leave approximately $2.875M ($95M payroll) to spend on the other 14 roster spots. well we are at 102 now, so assuming we are there at 102 next year we have 10 mil to spend on those players....and given the fact that our payroll has gone up every single year as baseball teams continue to prosper (thanks bud selig) i wouldnt be shocked if we go up to 110. i certainly could be wrong, but i for one would def. want tejada .300 + average with 25 HR at least just about every year...he'll be 32 next year, so if it means giving tejada 13 for 2 years or signing dye to a 2 or 3 year deal i think id rather have the younger SS
  16. QUOTE(LukeGofannon @ Aug 1, 2007 -> 08:30 AM) Granderson, Maybin, Raburn, Shelton (still young, can hit), Verlander, Miller, Bonderman, Zumaya, Gorkys Hernandez, Robertson is decent too. I can't believe you listed Uribe as a positive. The depth and quality of the Sox isn't nearly as good as the Tigers. cameron maybin is in high A right now, yes he has an extremely bright future, but hes just too far off to include on that list, chris shelton is a 27 year old in AAA hitting .280 with 11 HR...i dont think the tigers view him as part of their young core...gorkys hernandez is also in hi A and while he has 39 SBs, he has a .698 OPS.....yes granderson is young and looking like he will be a great player in this league for a while...raburn should be a decent player now if you want to talk about pitching, yes the tigers have a very good young core in verlander bonderman miller and zumaya....robertson is decent, but he is heading the wrong direction and is just about 30.
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Yes, but if they re-sign Dye, then they're going to have to clear some payroll. That means Garland is likely gone, and we still have the $20 million albatross in the rotation. I've been saying for two weeks now we should extend Dye, but I'm not so sure he'll "help" us out with the contract we'd try to get him to sign. well, hopefully contreras pitches somewhat respectably down the stretch and we can trade him for anything during the offseason, clearing hopefully half of his salary
  18. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Kenny Williams has done a terrible, terrible job this year. he created one of the worst bullpens in baseball. He got nothing in two trades. He gambled on injury-prone Pods and Erstad -- and lost BIG. He teamed with Ozzie to ruin any value a former Number One draft pick (Anderson) had. He did sign Buehrle. Other than that, he's been horrible. please, ozzie and kenny didnt ruin anderson
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) f***ing fabulous hey at least we plugged the holes winsten salem had for a RH Set up guy next year....weren't you worried about that spot?
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) The Mackowiak trade saves about $916K this year does that include the money on the buyout, assuming that since the sox traded him they werent going to pick up his option anyways
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) It's obvious....for the guys they have no intention of bringing back next year, they're just getting their salaries off the books for the rest of the season. yeah i agree, but at the same time i think we could have gotten a little more return for them....winston salem is gonna have a helluva pen
  22. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Seems like a Nick Masset type. yeah except that masset went 18 rounds before link in their respective drafts, masset had solid numbers as a starter at more advanced levels of the minors at the same age, and was actually considered a decent prospect for the rangers....so yeah exactly like masset
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) With his performance and the lack of a market during the trade deadline, it is a prime time to extend Dye for much less than his market value, and tons less than his value at the beginning of the season. at this point i almost think this is the best thing we can do....dye will probably bounce back next year and hit .275 with 30 HR...and if we can sign him for 2 or maybe 3 years at 8 or 9 per, that wouldnt be the worst news i have heard....i would just hope that we could trade contreras this offseason to clear 10 mil for upgrades in the pen and at positions like LF or SS
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) Offman just said it's a Class A pitcher. What the f*** is going on with this team? matt buschamnn maybe? hes in A ball...saw him pitch for a few years at vandy
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) the hilariousness on this site is pure comedy. First people get mad if we arent asking for enough for our players, then they get made because we are asking for too much and not pulling the trigger. We ask for minor leagues talent, then get mad when no big leaguers are included in deals. lol....this is a great observation
