QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:08 PM) Please tell me you people are kidding... Hunter is an overrated defensive player who aside from this year has been treading water to be called mediocore offensively and we need to play him 18 million a year. At least AROW won't be near as expensive and actually has drive. Hunter is just a selfish prick with a history of choking when it counts... um...aside from a down year in 05 hunter has been a consistent upper 20s HR, with 15 SB guy since 2001......this year isnt the outlier...in addition hunter has had OPS+ of 102, 126, 97, 105, 107, 112, and 130 since 2001..... compared to vernon wells....98, 100, 131, 103, 104, 126, 90... and rowand....113, 80, 104, 126, 93, 87, 128 in fact offensively, hunter i think has an argument as being one of the most underappreciated players in the game, in addition he is top 5 in the league in ZR, and has been in the top 5 in four of the last 6 years in all of baseball... im not sure where your contention of him being lazy in the playoffs comes from.....yes he misplayed the inside the park HR against oakland last year, but beyond that im not real sure how you can conclude that come playoff time he becomes a poor defensive outfielder im not justifying paying him 18 mil a year...i dont think he is worth that, but i think some of your claims are unfounded

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 08:57 PM) If they do not protect Egbert, I quit. He's struggled adjusting to not throwing to Lucy all of the time, but the fact remains that he's made himself a top pitching prospect in all of baseball. KW knows he exists too, which is a positive. a top pitching prospect in all of baseball?? id think you would have a tough time finding 2 GMs in baseball that agree with you on that

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) Do people here think Alvarez could play a decent SS? not at all.....ive seen him play dozens of times and i think hell have to move to the OF or 1b....others think he can stay at 3b...he certainly has the arm...but hes just not a very polished fielder
-
QUOTE(max power @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) Did he even throw the ball? It was a short pop fly, right? for some reason he dove.....gotta know before that play diving does nothing for you there

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Do it, Ozzie, I dare you. Leave the lefty in to pitch to Sosa. Idiot!!! sersiouly we have to use jenks att some point between now and next year...now seems like a good time to me
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) I so hope we say so long to juan uribe, his cannon arm and his .216 avg. And Ozzie has the balls to tell us "this guy can carry a team"!! Cuando?? it baffles me why uribe plays EVERYDAY and others seem to get rest way more frequently
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Uribe has seriously pissed me off this year. whats sad is that its gonna be difficult to find a SS this offseason and he could very well be back next year which will drive me up a wall

erstad continues to hammer the ball

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Anyone else notice Tampa had a huge comeback win today? Seeing someone mention names like Mauer and Verlander, as high picks, got me excited about having such a high pick again. its not as big of a deal as having a high pick in bball or football....but having a top pick in baseball is still a big luxury

just lose already so i can go to bed

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) It just seems like Richar would ground out 400 times in a season if he got 600 at-bats. He's fast, but not fast enouh where he's going to beat out enough infield choppers to get a batting average like Juan Pierre, etc. Basically, I'm sick of slap hitters, and want legitimate big league hitters that can get more than 20 extra base hits in a season. the lack of extra base hits is one of this teams biggest flaws....we are last in doubles...and the difference between the #20 team (houston) and the #29 team (St. Louis), 19, is less than the difference between st. louis and us at #30, 20......we are also second to last in triples....6th in HR though....but still the 2bs adn 3bs are stats not often talked about that are significant that helps to explain a good deal of our offensive ineptitude
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) I must be the only person, it seems like, who's not a fan of Richar. im starting to become a serious skeptic....like most others i want to believe in him...and he has had some good ABs....but its getting to the point where he is starting to develop a decent sample size at the major league level....this isnt to say he cant become a productive hitter...but im starting to be a bit more skeptical than i was before what i really dont understand though are the owens believers...even if he has 20 SBs
-
did they stop throwing curve balls in the minors? cuz it looks like our young guys have never seen one in their lives.....
-
lets see how we can mess this prime scoring opportunity up

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) I'm just concerned about Fields strikeouts. He's at 100 in 284 AB, and his walk rate is going down. Only 4 in his last 108 AB. His power has been nice, and I wouldn't mind him fanning 175-200 times a season if he also walked 90-110 times and hit 35-40 homers. He seemed to coax walks a lot better earlier. Maybe they found something that he will go after. Hawk mentioned that he will learn to lay off certain pitches and that may be true, but it can't be automatic. def. agree with you here...fields will certainly have to learn better pitch recognition...im ok with the high Ks, as long as they come with their walks....i honestly think fields may have gotten in love with his own power and is chasing after pitches too often lookin for the long ball
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) I thought people on this board didn't like the all or nothing approach? Isn't Fields probably the most extreme all or nothing hitter on the team? not everyone here is totally against the all or nothing approach...in addition you have to accept the guys you have for what they are....not to mention fields minor league track record (much like that of chris young, which has been well talked about on this board) suggests he will draw more walks and his obp and probably average will increase.....either way id wayyyy rather have fields who is an all or nothing guy and actually gets the HR here and there vs. anderson who was also an all or nothing guy and barely ever hit he ball outa the park
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) He also is a better defender by quite a bit. inconsequential given the fact that fields would have 13 or so more HR in the same number of ABs.....also josh fields never hit .255 at AAA with a .318 obp
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) Funny what a difference a year makes. Brian Anderson has on OBP of .290 and he can't hit a lick, defense be damned. Josh Fields has an OBP of .290, he's a future star and a ROY candidate. he also hit 9 fewer homers in 80 more ABs
-
thome has had 19 ABs against the rangers this year, and has reached base 18 times...unreal

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) Eh, that's every college. I didn't think I'd drink either, but just a couple weeks ago my roommate came back to find his beer gone and his roommate trying to pass out in the hallway. its been only 4 months and man do i already miss college

QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) the first time i saw 40 YOV i really didn't like it, then i watched it again and loved it. Give it another shot. I'm assuming the same for knocked up. I thought it was overrated in theaters but when is ee it again, i expect to enjoy it more. yeah the first time i saw it it was pretty funny ....but then i watched it again and i just gained such a greater appreciation for rudd and rogans characters and their deliveries and their chemistry ....they were both great in knocked up too, i found myself laughing at parts of knocked up that nobody else in the theater laughed at....as i said i havent seen superbad yet, but i quite frankly found that jonah hill and his posse weren't all that funny in knocked up...i guess i think rudd and rogan are so subtle in alot of their comedy (and like someone said previously, i really enjoy their chemistry) that the up in your face almost humor of hill was a bit annoying

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 12:50 PM) 1) knocked up 2) Superbad 7) 40 YOV havent seen superbad yet, but 40 year old virgin i thought was way better than knocked up....taht said knocked up is hilarious, but 40 YOV was one of the funniest movies i have ever seen....i laughed more the second time i saw it, and even more the third

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 29, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) Since when are we considered the worst farm system in baseball? i also saw us mentioned as being one of 3 teams that have an argument for the worst system, but i can't find it anymore also baseball america had us at 25 to start the year....texas and SD were below us and certainly both bolstered their systems via trades this year, which according to their list would place us in the bottom 3 or 4.....and now that fields is no longer part of the system...sweeney is increasingly disappointing and cunningham gone it looks bleak......
-
its sad that this team has so little to chear for on the big league team, and in the minors....people are starting to consider that the sox have the worst farm system in all of baseball....there isnt one position prospect im actually excited about right now....sweeney i guess could still turn out all right, but i still honestly dont see him as ever becoming an impact player....maybe an average OFer....id honestly be thrilled if he turned into a milton bradley type...but im not sure that hell even get there..and how sad is it that our best position prospect barely projects out to milton bradley??
