  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:25 AM) If you give up Hudson + for Jackson, you could say the same thing about the Sox buying high. no doubt we've been guilty of it too. The two swisher and two vazquez trades prove that. If I can have one of the two though, Scherzer >> Hudson IMO QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) Still waiting for that awesome fastball to translate into something more than a league average to slightly below average K/9. I completely agree, but if we are talking upside, the still young (26 year old) Jackson has a higher upside than Hudson if you ask me
  2. over reaction city....jesus. Is this move a tremendous deal? no. does it have the potential to work out in our favor? yes. Does it have potential to blow up in our face? yes. the fact is we don't know. Nobody does. stop acting like this is the worst thing in the world. There is just as good of a chance that Hudson never comes close to being as good as Jackson as there is that he will be better, so right now all you can do is wait and see. Its certainly a gamble, and for a guy who has had success and had the 4th fastest fastball on average last season, I'm ok with us taking a gamble on Jackson. BTW....look at what Arizona gave up and got/will be getting for both Haren and Jackson. Talk about buying high, selling low
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Sinker ballers have more of an advantage in smaller ballparks because they don't give up as many home runs. You take him to a park where home runs aren't aplenty and he loses that advantage. correct, but that doesnt cause him to lose his effectiveness.....bigger parks give an advantage to the flyball pitchers we are comparing the sinkerballers to, but it doesnt cause them to "lose their effectiveness" as he said
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) Well, sinker ballers would possibly lose their effectiveness pitching in a huge ballpark. how so? the thought is that sinkerballers effectiveness is less correlated to the ballpark, thus they are better suited for small ballparks, but the reverse is certainly not necessarily true
  5. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) OMG what did Figgins sign for again?? 3 and 30?? I had no idea he was hitting that bad, that is absolutely brutal this morning on waddle and silvy, silvy was all about the cubs "buying low" and start shopping for next year at the end of this season by getting figgins ....haha
  6. how many ways can WCIU fail? no sound at all then just stadium noise with no announcers then normal sound + no HD ha
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) Anybody else not have sound on WCIU? it usually takes WCIU like 10 minutes to f*** something up with the broadcast, but this one they had from the get go
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) Ehh the hotties are fine, but all they want is his money. I like pretty ladies, but not if that's their motivation. yeah i cant fathom chicks actually liking cutler for his personality...the guy smells of douche from a mile away
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) Best player from the '08 draft. No doubt in my mind. And I can't help but feel good that the Pirates and their fans FINALLY have not one but two (McCutchen being the other) legitimate future superstar players to embrace and build around. Those fans deserve it. don't get me wrong, I'm as big of an Alvarez fan as there is (as witnessed by my avatar)....but right not i'd have to take buster posey from that draft ... that draft is looking to be a good one though...alvaraez, posey, beckham, jason castro, brian matusz already having lots of big league success plus guys like hosmer who has broken out in a ridiculous way this year
  10. saw inception last night.....thought it was a waste of time to be honest
  11. guys, closer by committee means its going to be putz in 1 run games, thornton in close games vs. the likes of mauer and morneau, and probably bobby in 3-4 run games (yes i know 4 run games aren't save situations)....stop freaking out that its Closer by Committee and not just putz as the closer. This is honestly the way every bullpen with this many good arms should be.
  12. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Agreed...we would need Sale...Torres is garbage count me as someone who is not a fan of throwing our 1st round pick into the middle of the pennant race when he hasn't had a minor league start yet... not that im a fan of torres, but if we deal hudson im not a huge fan of any of our options
  13. i'm way more worried about the twins than the tigers.... the tigers don't play a team below .500 til august 20th...a full month the twins on the other hand have a much more favorable schedule
  14. I only remember him from college when he was just a solid freakin rock on the court, did nothing great but nothing poorly....supposedly some scouts think he can be a very good defender, but nobody really knows for sure since he's been playing in that Nellie system
  15. afternoon saloon just said theres a report the bulls made an offer to shaq edit: further reported they low-balled him and shaq is probably goin to atlanta...good thing
  16. depends on the price....in a vacuum would i take lilly over hudson right now? yes probably. but the fact of the matter is that the cubs can probably get a decent return on lilly from a team like the mets, and its a price i dont want to match....
  17. dear brian mccann.....in 1996, you were 12, not 8....nice math einstein
  18. nice to see john buck hitting balls hard against a team other than the white sox
  19. gameday had the 3-2 to byrd on the black....damn
  20. i believe mccann got the best of thornton in the atlanta series as well IIRC
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) He had always been a Duke fan, Illinois never had a shot. all the more reason for me to dislike him
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) What's wrong with Scheyer? Just that he played for Duke? well i see you are from northbrook and anything i say won't matter, but yes being the annoying white guy on duke has an enormous amount to do with it, as well as spurning illinois/weber
