I dunno, I like his guitar sound. Can't put my finger on what exacty I like about it, I just do. None of that string-mastrurbation-in-front-of-the-mirror s***.
  2. No need to bring Jonathan Cain into this.
  3. My comeback wasn't really a "comeback", more like a lil' Soxhead Revisited.....I like this site so much I actually stayed the whole month past the point, thought why not spend some part of Christmas season with fellow Soxtalkers, talking it up about my favoritest team in the world and whatnot. I guess I might be posting a little from time to time, but none of that 30-post a day craziness after Jan 3. That's for asking, BEGOOD.
  4. If Kenny can swing Jackson AND Miller for Magglio, I will NEVER say another BAD thing about KW's abilities as a GM for as long as I live.
  5. Brown's stuff was more explosive. Maddux's control was ungodly. And, besides, it only took him 180 innings to get going, and once he turned 22, he TOOK OFF and never looked back. Meanwhile Jon-Hon will be 24 and a half in ST and has already accrued 570 innings. 2004 is a PUT-UP or SHUT-UP time for Judy. Kevin Brown was 6 months younger than Jon will be when he came in 1989 season and despite walk problems, there was little doubt he was gonna be good. Jon is just so damn AVERAGE now in every respect.
  6. Define "solid". I would argue he is perfectly tolerable as #4, but the airhead BETTER get tough and improve his command because he simply doesn't have the velocity/movement to become a truly "good" pitcher without either. Will he be making 4-5 Mill and will Sox be in re-bulding mode when he "figures it all out"? I hope not.
  7. The Troll? Please. How he bagged Jannet Jackson I'll never know.
  8. Especially after the surgery, I'll take Angel Berroa at 300K over Nomar at almost 13 (with defered) Mill. But that's just me.
  9. Hey Rick, when was the last time you tipped a single-mother waitress over 10% or paid for your newspaper groupie's abortion in full? I thought so.
  10. Oh please, spare me the self-conscious fatalistic pathos, will ya? Sox fans do NOT attend, Sox fans NOT consume....And they DON'T get a winning team as punishment. Period. Jerry Reinsdorf will not budge. The fate of the franchise rests ENTIRELY in Sox fans' hands and always has. There is no need to involve morals or meta-physics or spiritual mumbo-jumbo here. It's as clear as Thandie Newton's forehead. PS I admire people like cwsox, Steff, JimH, DickAllen and many others on this board who put their wallet where their mouth is. THEY deserve a winning team and great awesome memories/emotions that come with being a true fan. The other 70% of Sox fans deserve only heartbreak and a bad case of clap.
  11. True, but the Maggs deal will be resolved BEFORE the season even commences. UNlike the Sox who are 10+ million OVER the payroll limit, Danny Evans can lean back and plot how he will be spending a HUGE chunk of money.....while Barry Bonds is getting older by the minute and Giants-- weaker. D-Backs shouldn't put much of a fight, either. Padres, Rockies, no problem. Just replace Brown, get a RF and you're set. Kenny's job hung by a THREAD around last July, and there are many rumors saying he is not in control/sharing control with some shady eminence grise. And even if he's still in charge (I doubt it), that miserable failure of the team down the stretch (Koch, White, Konerko, Shownweiss, Robbie didnt exactly shine) certainly didn't solidify his position, not by a long shot. I am afraid if he doesn't get the Sox out of this salary mess and/or the team has poor April-May, he is GAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNNN. Both are in their own ways. Evans might indeed be in a DO-OR-DIE jam, BUT he has enough AMMO (read: 30-35 Mill of spendable money AND 2 GREAT prospects as bait should he run out of dough) to put up a HUGE fight.........As I mentioned in the two previous posts, Evans has WAY more options at this point when it comes to Ordonez than KW does, so you tell ME for whom this trade is more crucial......BESIDES, it's NOT Kenny Williams trading with Danny Evans; it's Chicago White Sox dealing with Los Angeles Dodgers, and NEITHER GM will be allowed to do something FOOLISH/HARMFUL just to preserve their job. Get real. Dodgers will have a GREAT payroll in 2005 even if they fail in 2004. Whereas the Sox will have an ever LOWER one if NO playoffs in 2004. This simple truth affects EVERYTHING. Neither if their their clubs don't get to a hot start in the first two months. Not even f***ing close, pal.
  12. Oh, common, if Kenny Williams gets hosed on the trade (and Cotts and Maggs for Mota and Perez will be just that), he'll be canned by June. My point was, if LA doesn't get Ordonez, they could get Ponson and One Gone for that money....and if One Gonzalez has anything close to 2001 season, having him and Ponson for 13 Mill will be MUCH preferrable to Maggs for 14, and they don't have to give up Mota, Jackson OR Miller.....While the Sox MUST move Ordonez in order to SURVIVE in 2004...............Again, Danny Evans has A TON of ways to spend that 30-35 Million, YASNY. For him to get canned, he must hand out Kevin Appier and Kevin Young-type contracts by Opening Day. He is facing more pressure than ever, true, but it's HARDLY a do-or-die type thing for him in the next few months. He has a TON of options, I can't stress it ENOUGH.
  13. YASNY, we're talking about two radically different walls here: --Our wall is "57 Mill payroll and a must-win-the-division-or-the-fansbase-will-start-to-disband predicament " --While theirs is "near 120 Mill payroll and up to 35 Mill to spend AFTER all the raises and contracts are added up.....knowing full well that if worst case scenario they don't make playoffs in 2004, they'll still be a hellava draw in 2005, with another 115 Mill to spend" Knowing that the Sox are already many millions OVER the target payroll.....while looking at Dodgers' "wall" described above.....do you think they *need* Maggllio as much as we *need* to dump his leaden albratrosse of a salary to be able to fix major holes??? Mota is gonna make about 1.5 Mill next year, exactly HALF of what Scott Williamson would have ended up costing us.....Both Miller and Jackson are supposed to be TOP 5 prospects in all of baseball, naturally costing Dodgers nothing for years to come...........Knowing, worst-case scenario, they cold get Juan Gonzalez for abot 6 Mill a year with performance-based incentives.........WHY in the world would they be DESPERATE to par witht either of the three? Perez I can see, he will make 5.00 to 5.5 Mill and is far from a sure thing..........But Mota, Miller, Jackson IMO are untouchable. Hell, the Dodgers could get a MUCH more marketable Vladimir Guerrero by paying him about 15 Mill a year and they wouldn't have to give up either of the 3. No, as mediocre a GM as Danny Evans is, he can SMELL our DESPERATION all the way from the West Coast.
  14. What is it about Judy that excites you, other than his ever-increasing age and salary? Is it his low-90s four seamer with little movement? Is it his mediocre change-up and slider. Is it his bad curveball? Maybe it's his psychological make-up and pitching IQ that has you going? He is tall and has a good sinker, and that's about it.
  15. You're absolutely right, he's FAR from perfect. His team however, one that would have averaged 105-110 wins a year in last 4 seasons if it had the fortune to play in the s***ty ALC, is not that far from ideal....on the 50 Mil budget. Like an astute trader who may only hit the target on half the transactions, maximizing the gain on "hits" and minimizing the damage on "misses"....Beally Bin is doing all he can and more given the financial constraints and rules of the GM game. Like the Hernandez deal where he got rid of him the no speed, mediocre defense, mediocre bat catcher who was due for a significant raise at a point when he felt his value would never be higher, what with All-Star apperance and all. A healthy Kotsay might just surprise a few people, tho I do agree this is not a strong trade for Beane either way. Of course his scouts who got him Mulder, Hudson, Zito, Giambi, Chavez, Byrnes, Harden, Tejada are to be commended as well. Then again, who gets credit for Justice, Durazo, Lidle, Hernandez, etc?
  16. 1. LA realizes Maggs is taking up 25% of our ENTIRE payroll, which is more than any baseball player not named Barry Bonds/A-Rod/Pedro/Prior deserves. They KNOW that with Bos thing not coming to fruition, Sox are running out of options to free up some money for starting pitching and BP help. They are not stupid, so you KNOW Sox are not going to get for Magglio what they would have gotten same time LAST year. 2. Perez may not be all that, but he is no Jim Parque either; he KNOWS how to pitch and actually has a legitimate TALENT. That raises his value quite a bit. Let's not pretend they are trying to dump Kevin Appier-type bum on us, OK? They can EASILY afford to just keep the 26yo Perez without it hurting them much financially. 3. It depends which "two propects" you are talking about. You don't mean Greg Miller and Edwin Jackson by any chance, do you? Zero chance. What I think the offer is is Perez and Mota for Magglio and Cotts.
  17. The longer this charade of a mega-blockbuster trade drags on, the BETTER OFF ESPN and its media outlet sisters are. Almost makes me feel like this is all a MLB-ESPN ploy to keep fans super-psyched and tuning in every 30 minutes. I am numb and I almost don't care.
  18. Way to live up to your last name there, uncle Tom. Impeccable logic.
