I have numerous buddies of mine in Depaul, Loyola, Champainge and NW, which is the toughest to get into. Half of them got in on their junior year ACT scores, GPA, recommendations and other peripherals. Nat had Ivy league HS credentials, very bright girl all-around. I don't want to speculate before asking her but the only other alternative is that she did take the SATs, bombed them and told everyone she decided not to take them to avoid embrassment. Highly unlikely but possible...But then how would she get in, lol? And how would that explain my frineds being in other schools without having to take [edited: SAT] ? (SAT II and various AP tests are another story altogether. Most of them got 4 and higher so they wouldn't have to take some of those course in college.)

I am not sure about now, but 3 years ago or so, this wasn't the case, and I know for sure Loyola, DePaul, Northwestern, etc did not require SATs to be taken if the GPA, ACT, extra-car activities and the admission essay met their standard. 35 on ACT alone would get you into nearly every*** college if your GPA is high. I know Nat had straight A's. Again, I will have to check with with her to be sure. (***- I am not sure about UofC, Ivy Leagues, etc though.)

College is not for everyone. Rinse and repeat.

NW = North Western? Someone correct me if I am wrong but in order to get into college you HAVE to take it, right? That's the way I remember it in 1990. Never went to college, woudn't know anything about NW admission process. I am gonna ask her...

I am not sure, exactly, we didn't go out then. I think it was her senior year and she already got in NW so she said f*** it. Or maybe she got scared that she would get low scores under pressure, I know that's the reason she refuses to this day take an IQ test. Ignorance is bliss type thing, lol.

Yofu will likely never make that list due to age. Pacheco was so unknown at the beginning of the season that it might be hard to climb onto that list. Rauch may or may not be a prime candidate since he has some big league time and is considered a mature prospect. This list is generally for up-and-comers. Honel, Reed and Cotts are more likely, with even the possibility of Yan. Tex, I read a while back that Yofu throws 7 pitches, one of which is a fastball that he can get up to 92-93+ when he really wants to on these boards. Plus, Asian pitchers have rock-solid mechanics and even better mental prepation. It made him sound like an Oriental Pedro....any validity to that? Also, Chisoxfan said Pacheco throw in high-90s...Is any truth to that or is it just another smoke-n-mirror Soxspeak where they confuse "high" with "low"...? Thanks.

Nice work, thats right around what I got. Jebus, who knew they'd be so many future MENSAs on Soxtalk! My g/f got 35 on her ACT and consistently averaged 1400+ on her practice SATs. a few years back, but decided not to take it. Fortunately, I am totally secure in my intellectual mediocrity...
