  1. Amen...unless we are ready to convert Danny Wright. Cause Money Gordon ain't gonna do it and he is paid a whole lot more than Garry, ois not much better and is injury prone. Marte? As good as he is a 2-out pitcher and hasn't been as sharp this season. Koch? Right...Maybe Kelly "Hoffa" Wunsht?
  2. We already agreed he doesn't have the stamina (both physical and mental) to be a starting pitcher. Do we need to go over it again, Baggs? He also tipped his pitches a little bit and had some control issues earlier last season that had to be worked out...Still, his ERA was better (or gooder if you prefer) than either Wells or Garland...ah, nevermind. What part of "Glover has excelled in relief duty" don't you understand? ERA of close to 1.00 over 33 innings? Common, that's half a season's worth as Chisoxfn mentioned...put down the stat book and watch some games. 2 years ago he had nasty stuff. Now he is adding a change-up and improving his control and mechanics, while having to rely less and less on the slider (which is the biggest reason for arm injuries in recent years)...At worst Glover is better than Ginter, Majewski and anybody we have in the minors, including Almonte. Keep things in perspective, will ya?
  3. Lay off the scatalogical references, will ya, Steff. I don't care what he thinks; I care what he does, and so far he's been the best player on this team. Give me the "lazy" Jimenez over 8-Million-a-year perfectionist Bald Spot who is playing like utter crap.
  4. Oh, so Albert never smacked a woman with a phone? Does it matter if he was married or not? I couldn't give a flying s*** if he had a paper or not...
  5. Guess what, it's still lower than either Kip Wells's or John Garland's was in the magical 2000. Glover has a similar arm and just as good a stuff IMO. If Pittsburgh was able to increase Kip's velocity from 92 to 94-97 in two months, they could do wonder for Gary, lol Incredible really. While it goes without saying that Marte was a steal, Glover may become just as good and he is 2 years younger if I am not mistaken. Also just as cheap.
  6. Do you think people like bmr actually bother with 'pen'/'non-pen' splits before posting? All they do is pull up the overall ERA (which BTW is still lower than what Garland and K.Wells posted in their first 200 innings) if that...Plus considering how much Sox underachieved in 2001-2002 as a team, I don't blame them for automatically associating 'Glover' with 'suckitude'. One?! Are you serious? I thought it was like 2.80 which is excellent in its own right...wow. I know we tried him as a starter out of desperation...but stupidity is still stupididty at the end of the day. Sox could have seriously stunted his growth or gotten him hurt. He belongs in the pen, where he should work out his command and perfect the release point, while increasing velocity. Does anyone remember his first 10 innings with the Sox? He didn't have a change-up then, but he routinely touched 94-95 mph with movement and with a sharp breaking curve and a slider he help opposing hitters to like 1 hit in 10 innings before running into mechanical problems that Nardi didn't fix...sounds familiar? In any case, KW got him for nothing, and unless you think Ginter and Gary Majewski can do better in the pen, some props should be given.
  7. ...whereas you are a selfish, talentless asshole. Glad we cleared that up. I saw the pitch live and I swear Chip Carey was ready to throw up/cry...I don't know how I'd feel if Maggs got beaned on the side of the noggin'. I remember as a 10yo I was in shock for literally months after my favorite F-1 racer Aerten Senna died in a crash in San Marino Make no mistake about it, people have died from tennis balls hitting them in the temple; baseball is 3 times heavier and it's just.plain.scary.stuff. I am happy when Sammy strikes out 4 times in a game and is made to look a fool, but anything having to do with wishing "he'd get what's coming to him" I want no part of. Speaking of sportsmanship (or lack thereof), with 4 anxious trolls, 2 or more of the them beloging to Cubs, running out on the field and everyone flipping out because of it, why hasn't anyone mentioned Ben Cristensen intentionally throwing at the guy who was standing 50 feet from the plate minding his own business during warm-up...why hasn't he been banned for life and possibly charged with assult with a dangerous weapon I wanna know? Sure he got his karma in the form of an arm injury, but that's nothing compared to what that kid Molina suffered, making Sammy incident today look like child's play.
  8. Forget about HR's and steals (which are becoming more irrelevant with each passing year), this trio is all about RBIs (300 between V. and Maggs)...and pipe dreams.
  9. 2 years is a long time nowdays, lol With Koch only being signed through 2003 and Gordon and White FA after this year, Marte and Wunsht are the only two BP pichers right now that I can envision staying with the Sox in 2005. You think Ring, Ginter, Almonte, Majewski, Kane, etc are all ready to step in and post ERA's 3.50 and lower? Glover is cheap, healthy enough to go 2+ innings, semi-experienced, has 3.00 or lower ERA as a reliever while with the Sox and is Kenny's very first trade as a GM. Chances are his job is more or less safe. The only thing "average" about Glover is his control which is improving. His stuff is definately above average.
  10. I think you will see salaries decline in the next few years, but it all depends who VG's agent is. Maggs will be a 14 Mill player next year and I am expecting V. to be around that figure but in a multi year deal. He is one of the few players in the game who is worth the money and IMO the only weakness in his game is his eye, but he is still very young and still improving every year. Yankees will get him though.
  11. Is it finally ok to say that KW stole him and that despite being only 25 Gary is finally settling in as an important piece of the Sox puzzle? As long as they stop pretending that this guy is a starting material, that is In any case, back in 2001 Gary Glover threw 92-95 with wicked curve and a solid slider. He throws slower now, but his control seems to be improving. Couple more years and this guy could be really good.
  12. KC wins despite having only 4 hits and no walks in the game, Detroit had 10 hits and 4 walks. On the separate note, let's all thank Frank and Crede for losing this game.
  13. Thomas with another ball-4 pop up. Sigh.
  14. Cracked helmet, possible concussion, out of the game. Wow! Kids wear your helmets...If Sammy doesn't and it hits him in the side of his head, he dies. PLain and simple.
  15. It's getting ridiculous and starting to cost us games. Sooner or later pitchers will stop pitching around him and will be killing him inside. OBP will drop fast. I can't wait for us to drop Frank and to go after King Vladimir.
  16. 1. Easier said than done...It's the same as saying to a struggling pitcher "get ahead of the hitters". Duh. JM's advise is of no help at all. Also it's like telling a stuggling fly-ball pitcher to become a ground-ball pitcher and then criticising him because he is blowing everyone away with K's...lol 2. As Chisoxfn said, we dont know what the hell is going on and to say "we need it on the ground, not to all fields" is simply ridiculous. You can do so much better, Baggs.
  17. So what does this say for Super Joe then? His OPS is 670 Willie was 23 last year and had, what, 80 at bats at the majors? AAA is not as "useless" as you might think. Jeff Liefer hit a lot of homers but he also couldn't walk or hit lefties there, the very same problems he had in the majors. Minor often serve as a good predictor and considering how bad Tigers, Indians and Royals (yes, they won't win 75 games this year), AAA level is not that much worse. Ask Crede who actually played better up here than he did in AA. Or He Seop Choi. Or Pujols. In any case, we will never know until Willie has 500 or so atbats at the majors. Afterall it's not like he is the 6'7" Morgan dude who is 31 and is probably a AAAA player.
  18. I am not saying the two are mutally exclusive necessarily...but usually lazy people are relaxed and cool whereas perfectionists are the ones pushing people's buttons and exhibiting "holier-than-thou" attitude. Again, I know in life all sorts of "personal quality" combinations are possible, but its just interesting the way DJ is apparently the embodiment of everything that's unpleasant in a human being. I wouldn't be surprised if he enjoys smacking children with cute puppies. Or vice versa.
  19. Argh, this is getting increasingly annoying... Saying Mark Prior is "awesome" is not the same as saying "let's bake him a HOF cake" "Sox have been playing s***ty teams so far" is not "let's give up on the season" "Carlos Lee is regressing" is not "he will never be good, trade him for baseballs" Similarly, "Willie Harris is absolutely tearing it up" is not the same as "pencil him in the All Star game at the Cell"
  20. Does anyone know anything about his "stuff" and his "history"? Appreciated.
  21. Am I alone in hoping that Jose finishes his career with the White Sox if his health allows him? I mean he is easily worth 5 Mill in 2004 and will probably give us a discount again for 2005-2007 seasons until Andy Gonzalez or whomever are ready to step in. Since he is a very smart player with very good worth ethic and not a lof ot weight (heavy players tend to age faster), and since Lofton-esque super-quickness was never his primary tool, he could easily last into late his 30's without losing much skills. Ricky Handerson can still play at 44, lol..Who knows Manos may become our manager in 10-15 years. Also, am I the only person who doesnt want Tejada and his 5 year 60 million contract demands? Hell, I'd rather pay 2 million more and lock Valdimir Guerrero up long term.
  22. Yes, but...not really. Are you saying St. Ray of Durham was better defensively? Common, let D'Angelo play the position a couple of years first...afterall he is on pace to a staggering 13 errors this season. I think his work ethic will make or break him. Lets's face it, he just didn't want to play in San Diego and so he sucked most of the time. His "arrogance" and "s***-talking" even if true don't concern me because they are almost irrelevant and not everybody can have the attitute of Jose Valentin or Jason Giambi, some people aren't meant to be leaders. Albert Belle had a hell of a season in 98 and he was a wife-beater and a very angry person. Nobody touched him in the clubhouse, thou, lol
  23. So I guess I should disregard any signs of breakthrough because as we all know minor league "sucks". I guess he is washed-up at 24. Meanwhile, Super Joe's OPS is half (yes half!) of that of Willie...I guess he is doubly washed-up, no?
