101? No way. He was supposed to throw in upper-90's as a RELIEVER, which he was in the minors, but when they decided to make him a starter, expectations were in line with what he throws now. Of course, with his movement he could throw 91-92 -- hell, the Dodgers could't TOUCH him and he throw 80-90% fastballs.....And then you had Felix Diaz pitching at the same time with that straight 91mph batting practice ball. :puke Do you agree that it's ridiculous the way Sox hyped the aformentioned prospects, velocity-wise? I cannot believe anything else they say quite frankly. I am still waiting for Cotts's "bizarro world slider"....

Aaron Rowand and Joe Crede are making this choice for Ozzie.
-
Considering he's 34, I'd day 3 Mill is too much. 1-2 Mill is a good price and Uribe can always play 2B in case either Rowand or Harris crap out or even 3B if the Golden Boy continues on the path to AAAA-dom.
-
First of all, I am not sure Billius Caesar would want Uribe's OBP. He'd much rather have Jeremy Reed, Bajenaru and Honel or some such instead. Secondly, the 900 OPS is not guaranteed to anybody, Uribe especially. I am saying his upside is that, but I could be wrong. That's (post-surgery) Garciaparra land. Is Uribe strong mentally to do that over the full season? Will he want to make constant adjustments and use the whole field, or will he become a one-dimensional, underachieving hitter in a Valentin mold? The questions can't be answered yet. I do want Mulder, don't get me wrong. I also want Jenny Finch. Doesn't mean we get what we want

Garland was touted as possessing a 94-96mph fastball in the minors back in 2000. Lorenzo Barcelo - 95-99 Jason Stumm 94-97 Danny Wright - 95-98 Matt Ginter - 93-95 Joe Valentine - 95-99 Kyle Kane, Wyatt Allen were also said to be mid-high-90's Yeah riiight...... Felix Diaz is another disappoitment in that respect. I expected "Baby Pedro" to live up to the hype and showcase a blazing fastball in 93-95 range with movement. "Electric stuff", "live arm"....the hell? Its gotten to a point where I have to subtract 2 mph every time I hear a Sox prospect velocity. Fool me once and all that. Thre are exceptions: Kip Wells was in 91-93 zone with the Sox, and went on to throw 93-97 with the Pirates in 2002 which was in synch with 94-96 hype. Scott Dunn did throw 94-96 as well. Bajenaru is another one who is supposed to throw pretty hard. And I want say that EVERY team inflates velocity and Sox are no different, but it wouldn't be true all the time: Kerry Wood is 94-99 as advertised. Mark Prior - 93-97. Zambrano - 93-98. Farnsworth - 93-101. Juan Cruz - 93-98. Beltran - 94-97 Wellmeyer - 93-96.

Huh? Jeremy Reed is a CF-LF, not a SS. Jeremy Reed has no homers in a sandbox in Charlotte. He'll be a Catalonato type, not the Brian Giles type. I dunno about you, but I'd rather have Jose back at 1-2 Mill than Cabrera or Renteria at 8+

He doesn't have the pitch selection to hit 300, but with a start he's had, I certainly wouldn't rule 290 out.. Then again...who cares? The guy can field, run and hit for power. Hitting .300 is overrated -- batting average is overrated. BabyBerroa was never second coming of A-Rod. Different player. If he becomes a 900 OPS player, Sox fans should be ecstatic. He can play 2B, 3B, SS and a little outfield as well. I liked him last year, but I didn't expect him to be quite this good.
-
He won't hit .300 forever. .275 but with power is more realistic.

Where do people get this stuff? There is a higher chance Manos is pulling a Palmeiro, plays til 40 and goes down as one of the players who was better in his 30s than in his 20s (it helped to stay healthy, lol) than him retiring after this year. Especially now that he is learning to bat all-lefty, his power numbers should surge come June-July (when those balls he hit to the wall or off the wall -- like yesterday's game - start sailing out of the park), which should segue nicely into what are traditionally his best months, August and September. Just don't expect him to hit higher than 260-270 (when you only hit to RF and only of line-drive/flyball variety, it's almost impossible to hit higher...and at 34 Jose is not about to start listening to common sense, all-field approach, lolol)

Between Kobe, Duncan and Fisher....best ending ever? -
There are some things that are worse than death to some people. Secondly...what's your point?

Hey, I am as blood-thirsty and/or nihilistic as the next guy..... But pre-emptive NUKING of another nation?? Are you insane or just very, very, very stupid? And don't be so quick to bury "that civilization". Rome and Goths much? All it takes is one REALLY deadly virus/bacteria and it's OUR civilization that goes under....Mad Cow is but a child's play.

Not only that, but I probably under-shot the price: someone like Billy Beane wouldn't be as thrillied about Honel and Diaz as a typical Sox fan is. The former had experienced loss of velocity numerous times in the last 2 years and is currently on DL. The latter didn't have a good 2003 and just got absolutely shelled against the O's. So as far as Beane is concerned, it's not as if we're talking about Edwin Jackson or Rich Harden here. Why would he even entertain the possibility? Reed and Anderson have value, especially the former. Knowing Billy Beane.....it would probably be Reed + Honel + Munoz = Mulder + [Adkins clone] I am not even sure what it would take to get Schmidt. A lot. His health is a concern, though. Yeah, but why would other teams give a f*** about Sox' financial concerns? Kotch has NO value and noone would take him - unless it's something like Thomas + Koch = Weaver, which would be suicide for the Sox. Lee will net you more, but needless to say, it won't be Schmidt or Mulder. You probably couldn't even get Washburn for him anymore. Teams from Cubs (if either Prior or Wood is out) to Yankees to Braves to Cardinals will be/are vying for guys like Mulder, Schmidt, Halladay, Unit. They have more money and arguably more talent to offer than the Sox do. And on the flip side....At some point, Sox have to say "it may not be worth the farm system to get a rent player who doesn't even guarantee you an ALDS win". It's one thing to give up overrated Ring and a very raw Webster and quite another the REAL future - Reed, Sweeney, Munoz, Honel, Bajenaru, etc.
-
Because we're the Chicago White Sox and stuff like that never happens to us? Because it would cost us Honel, Reed, Diaz and Anderson in no particular order? Kotch is worthless and Lee has limited value in no small part thanks to the 15/2 deal he signed.

Nice bunt. Ozzieball.!!!!
-
Nothing just happens. Sox have been swinging selfish, stupid bats since June 2000. Thre is no light bulb to be turned. Away with Walker.
-
Thu GoG (1) Willie Harris Thu GoG (2) Juan Uribe
-
It's early Diaz was good We know how to win -- 1-run game record and all. Greg Walker is worth a damn.
-
I prefer just F14 God calmly put the sig out and said, "She'll go over like F-14"
-
And they say this dude used to throw 93-97....wow. Any chance he is coming back to the Sox?
-
And you know the funniest part? I am sure even after the firesale Restovich, Cuddayer, Murneueeuaue, Mauer and Co. will have career years and STILL beat the Sox....
-
See I always hear this and wonder...well, why not? History repeats itself (esp with this team) and it's important to understand past (wells, foulke, Konerko, etc) mistakes and disappoinments, I feel. How else is one supposed to evaluate KW as a GM? A homer shouldn't revisit the past, but serious baseball fan?

You're right. But at some point it was clear the move was not working -- Phatolo had a 4.30 ERA on July 20th despite pitching through an easy 1st half schedule, so the TRUE aggressive thing would have been to get another pitcher for maybe 5-6 mill (prorated) and prospects -- didn't have to be Shilling. That would have bumped Loaiza to #2, Colon - 3, Burhle 4, Judy- 5 and Porzio out of the rotation.....We could have won the Series with that. I think after 86 years, this franchise owes itself at least that much.
-
Alomar, Sullivan, Everett was "agressive" deal-making??!! Not only were the moves made a few weeks too late, but they cost NOTHING money-wise and the prospects -- let's just say we ain't exactly missing Ring and Webster.... No, it was very JR-ish -- pay lip service to great future, making self-aggrandizing statments, etc while getting it done at the cheapest possibly price. Now aggressive would have been getting Shilling or something along those lines.
