Oh it will grow alright, Juggs. Just give it time, 4-7 decades perhaps. Kids across this wonderful nation are being recruited and endocrinated by "them" as we speak.
-
I dunno about you, but I'd rather have a 5-6+ pitch Jose K than a 1-pitch Crede pop-up or a Konerko GIDP. back atcha
-
And? Jose is the third most hated Sox after Koch and Konerko, so of course any serious f*** up will be magnified. Let's put it this way: Kirk Hinrich is a good defender despite a somewhat low steal-per-game and a high foul-per-game. What does it mean? It means that there is way more to defense than just errors -- you have to look at Total Defense, which in baseball should factor in range, arm and aggresiveness. Example from today: One of the balls Jose had an error on, Guzman didn't even bother tryng to bend for. But whatever, I am content in that you're gonna see Jose in the line-up almost every day and you hate his guts.

You calling Aparicio a clown? Do me a favor, learn something about baseball, kid.

That's just stupid. That's like saying a single is a single. Unless of course you think that pitchers work harder to make up for Jose's errors versus other SS and that's why his error-to-run ratio has been surpinsgly low since 2000. We had a crappy staff in 2000, and yet his 30+ errors led to, what, 7-8 runs. That's very good. Last year, it was even less. This year, his +/- is at only at -3 and I fully expect Jose to improve like he did last year from roughly mid-May on. Ands then you start counting how many "runs" he "saves" with above-average plays.....it evens out at the end, trust me.

Beastly, you forgot that the "darkies" come out: 1) At night 2) When the weather gets hot Dusty said so.
-
Except all of Jose's errors last year did not exceed just one Uribe f*** up THIS year (I think on Vizquel's chopper) that led to 5 runs. Kelly Dranfelt had a 4-run error, which incidentally 1 more than 8 of Jose's errors this year combined. [/perspective] PS I do agree agree Manos assumes he has an out before the ball is in the glove WAAAY too much. Most of his errors are extremely avoidable. In fact, the tougher the play the more likely he is to make it.......Still, it helps to keep things in perspective. As long as he doesn't exceed 20 errors, he'll be a good SS when things like arm, range and DP are tallied up. He's gonna have to bear down in the next couple of months, that's for sure.

JR should move the team to Vegas....Warm weather all year round.

I dunno, methinks Pirzinski and Menkevic is better.

Ben Sheets sets Brewer strike out record
BrandoFan replied to BrandoFan's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It's a common knowledge that Brewers were trying to move him if the price is right. He was somewhat inconsistent, there was a health concern at one point and he hit arbit eligibility. Still might move him, but the price has definately gone up. -
The f***ing idiot should worry less about being on Sportcenter and more about KEEPING THE EYE ON THE DAMN BALL.

Ben Sheets sets Brewer strike out record

I think I wanted him in the off-seaosn for Rauch and Borchard or some such. Shows what I know: 18 SO-a-game, 98-mph-throwing young pitchers making 2.5 Mill do NOT end up as a White Sox... -
check out what he did today. 91 strikes. Any chance that Sox were going to get him are pretty much gone. :headshake

See that's what's so funny about range: on a similar groundball Christian Guzman had a horrible read, made a step to his right and just gave up -- the ball scooted into LF. At least Jose has a good chance of making that play if he fields it cleanly, which he does 95% of the time....Guzman's non-play on an almost identical ground ball is no less "deservant" of an error, which would be have been his 8th or 9th, because both plays put a runner on 1st -- except for the fact he didn't even bother to reach for it so a home scorer has no right to charge him with E Over 160 games, there are countless similar examples. That's why going by error totals only is nothing short of silly. Jose, despite a typical slow start, is still ahead of many SS "out-for-out" -- and 920 ZR is just part of it. Hopefully he cuts down on these insanely frustrating routine errors because if he does, he has a chance to break the all-time ZR record of 960.
-
I'll stay current only when you GET current and start embracing 21st century defensive stats that rate Crede-Valentin-Harris-Uribe as possibly the best infield 4-tet in the majors in 2004 - and that is WITH Jose's 7 errors btw!
-
And yet he is still second in baseball in % of the balls fielded in the SS zones. 920 to be precise. Your boy Clayton is at 830. Much worse in other words. Just sayin'

You're missing the point. Lee is getting paid 15 Mill over 2 to Slug, Slug, Slug and to protrect Frank. He is failing at both, big-time and it's killing the team, esp oin 1-run games. Crede is cheap and Rowand is not even a starter anymore. They are both failures, but I didn't expect much out of them what I expect from big boppers Konerko and Lee.
-
Delgado hurts you defensively (I remember a game in Toronto against Halladay last year where he and Woodward got 1 error each even though they "deserved" at least 3 apiece) and on the basepaths, esp with his f***ed up knee. So 1050 OPS from Delgado, while very good, is not quite Delgado is also 2 years older and doesn't have the connection to Chicago, so if he eventually make it to HOF, it will be as a Blue Jay. After 2002 it looked like Maggs was on the way to Sosa-esque (1998) late-bloomer ascent. Alas, it appears he doesn't have the talent and/or the mental make-up to become a 1st ballot HOF'er. He doesn't have the luxury of steroids, either.
-
Carlos Lee is absolutely ESSENTIAL to this team, make no mistake about it. Frank Thomas NEEDS Caballo's line-up protection in a worst way You know the way he's beeing hitting this season you couldn't trade him for a Hong Kong child bride. Better keep him and hope he comes back and puts up scary numbers.
-
I should point out that Sox were losing that Yankee game anyway, so it's not as if he pulled a Marte. It wasn't a blow out either, but I give Shingo benefit of the doubt.
-
Because people, myself included, were hoping that Maggs would discover his inner HOF'er at 29-30 years of age ala Sammy Sosa in 1998 -- and you can't put a price tag on that, especially if you're the HOF'er-challenged Sox fighting for local and national attention. Unfortunately, it became apparent in 2003 that Maggs doesn't have the eye/pitch selection OR the steroids to becomes a 1050 OPS hitter. Sigh.
-
Wake up -- so far this season Cubs better the Sox offensively at every position but SS and C. Cubs also have the to-die-for starting pitching when Jesus gets Resurrected in a couple of weeks, so they could "afford" long slumps. Sox must hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit, hit....and hit some more -- think June 2000.
-
No, no -- there's gotta be some running involved. Charging a bunt to SS or a sinking liner to CF with a runner at 2rd.....oh yeah!!!
