May SOX Evaluation thread
Wed GoG: toss up between Ordonez, Konerko and Valentin. They made solid plays when the game wasn't decided yet.

Schmidt?
Schmidt is in a different class than Garcia, true. But elbow/shoulder injjury is not something you can ignore in a pitcher, esp one that routinely throws 115-120+ pitches. Schmidt is signed through 2006, so god forbid he goes down, you're stuck with his salary. Especially considering you're gonna be sending 2 of your best prospects to the Giants. Now that Magglio may have a torn ACL, it's not a even a sure thing Sox make it to the postseason.

Who says Frank can't hit on the road?
Reality. Facts. Stats. Common sense. Me. Pick one.

Schmidt?
He's had numerous shoulder and elbow problems in the past, recent and otherwise. Alou is letting him throw 120, 125, 144 pitches lately... Too much risk for that kind of cost, both money and prospects. Now if it's near July deadline and it looks like he is completely healthy....maybe.

Bowling for Colombine
A gun is the equalizer. Which sucks because if you come at me with a knife or a bat, I'll still kick your ass. With a gun? Not so much. Where's the fairness in that?

Hearld asks Beltran on the Southside?
Try 26-32, with peak at 28-30 Of course steroids throw things out of whack (Boone hitting prime at 34, Bonds- 36, etc), but fundamental laws of physiology remain unchanged.

Humane Interogation Techniques
Drugs, shmugs....Put a rusty knife to either of my balls (esp the left one, my favorite) and I'll squeel because there is not a goddamn secret in this universe that's worth being castrated over.

Kris Honel
Guys who throw 97-98+ are very hard to come by. Street & Smiths had Kyle Kane reaching 99mph in Arizona league. Someone said Joe Valentine could throw 97-98 Rex said Danny Wright could really bring it. Barcelo in late 90s'.... Has Wyatt Allen's velocity returned?

Is Borchard on the verge?
Is it the case of Jobo not being endowed with natural strenght and arm speed or is it the lack of Ichiro-esque throwing fundamentals? If it's the former, then nothing you can do If it's the latter, maybe it can be fixed.
-
Is Borchard on the verge?
Improvement #1 is very relevant in a sense that IF Borchard can ever approach Lee's numbers (say, 820 OPS), then the HUGE disparity in salary comes into play. When you're the Yankees, you can afford to grossely overpay for 50 extra OPS points and a weaker throwing arm.....but if you're the Sox, no way. You overpay for guys like Bonds, Pujols, Shilling, Prior, Wood - the post-season difference makers, not talented underachievers like Lee. Obvisouly, the odds are admittedly very much against Slowbattin' Joe ever approaching 820 OPS barrier in the majors, but still.

Angels interested in Jose Valentin?
I thought it was funny when Mac, Harry and Yurko dopes calling in and offering these trade gems: Koch, Valentin for Hawkins Koch, Valentin, Rowand for Freddy Garcia Lee, Valentin for Vidro

Hearld asks Beltran on the Southside?
Are they giving out idiot soup again?

2004 SOX Evaluation
Works for me. I initially had Uribe as GoG for both Cle games, but then remembered the bad DP throw -- and unlike official scorers I can and I DO assume a double-play.

Angels interested in Jose Valentin?
The problem is that Valentin his very little value. You're not gonna get H-Rod, let alone K-Rod. Another slow defensive start (although weighted ZR still places him in the middle of the pack despite all the errors, which is not suprising to me) pretty much assures you won't get anything decent. He's gonna be a Sox.

Angels interested in Jose Valentin?
Here's to Jose being re-signed in the off-season. I know you and Dick will love it.

I saw the Eagles tonight
Don Henley is that the dude singing something about a woman wanting to dance and make romance all the time, or some such? I hope someone spoofed the no-talent assclown to death....
-
Hearld asks Beltran on the Southside?
Ditto. Nor do I want Beltran. Schmuck wants 16-18 Mil a year after '04? Whatever, he's already beginning to tail off. You're itching to spend that kind of money? How about getting # 1-2 pitchers at the ASB?
-
Angels interested in Jose Valentin?
No kidding. You'd probably do Mike Sirotka for Jose Valentin right now.

Gasoline tops $2 a gallon, nationwide
Never got the outrage over gas prices. Drive less, walk/transit more. Even if you're forced to "overpay" - it's not as if your savings are down the drain and the house will be Repo'd. At the end of the day, you'll be just a bit less wealthy, poor you.

Looks like Stewart and Mientkiewicz wont be play..
Not as amazing as Sox losing against all odds

I saw the Eagles tonight
De Jesus bowling and dancing to the bastardized Hotel California in Big Lewboski is hilarious Witchy Woman is ok, too.

Koch
Holy crap, talk about high expectations. I don't think Kock ever approached those numbers even playing on PS2.

Another Cubs player headed for the DL
Do not let anybody tell you otherwise: Cubs are by far our biggest rival. When they fail and are miserable for an extended period of time, THAT's when the time is right for the Sox to start winning market share back, year by year. That when you need to beat the Twins and the Tribe. But Cubs have to start losing big and often - preferably for a decade straight. Of course there is no stopping the Cubs talent-wise, so injuries are our only prayer.
