  1. But, but....there is no error, and only errors can hurt the Sox
  2. Throw that calendar out immediately -- it's stupid, boring and probably smells funny.
  3. They also have Alou and Ramirez who know what a clutch hit is....
  4. Pele dominated in the 60s when they didn't have 6'4'', quick as a cat defenders. They game has gotten tougher and faster (kinda like football since Jim Brown) -- it's that much harder to dominate it now. Maradonna, Ronaldo, Baggio (1994 WC) and a few others could single-handedly decide matches, but still. Adu is fast and has great balance and all....but whether or not he will be a superstar will depend on, what else, soccer IQ. Very hard to project that.
  5. Is it too much to ask for Cubs to fall under .500, roll over and die??? They just keep on winning.
  6. I knew Augie Ojeda, and Ben Grive is no Augie Ojeda.
  7. When in doubt....put yourself in Moreno's position. How serious is Anderson's arthritis? Could they go after Magglio instead?
  8. As of right now, Lukuis Aparippling is clearly #1 Jose would have to play til he is 40 and bring a couple of World Series rings to the South Side in the process to challenge him. Highly doubtful. Hence the #2.
  9. Minnesota is missing: Ortiz Mauer Hawkins Mays Stewart Menkevic Pirzinski Guardado Milton Koskie Kielty Also, Hunter was on DL a few weeks ago. Santana coming off off-season surgery. Sox can't take 3 of 4, might as well forfeit the season.
  10. Minnesota = mediocre team Split = unacceptable If Sox are no longer willing to endure being the LAUGHING STOCK of MLB, I suggest they start beating Minnesota, with ease and often. Or they can remain selfish, stupid losers they've been since the 1st half of 2000.
  11. He's served his (invaluable) purpose as far as my Party and America. That he got rich off of it doesn't bother me. Forrest for the trees, as it were.
  12. Doesn't Scott Shields have the ability to start? With every single starter (soon to be joined by Sele) sucking, can Anaheim GIVE up it's cheapest and arguably best SP option? I am thinking after missing out on Schoenweiss (and he ain't as talented as Shields) starting potential, they'd be that much less inclined to give up Shields. Without Anderson and Glaus they are in trouble. I don't think Valentin will put them over the top offensively - if he ever employed the all-field approach, he'd be an 875 OPS hitter who hits in the clutch, but let's face it, at 34, he ain't changing his approach. And then there's his 5 Mill salary......They've already committed near 110 Mill to payroll. Wouldn't they go after younger, cheaper Jack Wilson who's having a break-out season at the plate? But who knows, this trade may be a wash afterall, depending on a few unforseeable variables. Btw....Grilli is garbage while Diaz is the real (if raw) deal. I'd rather give up the former.
  13. Good trade for the Sox - not so much for the Angels. I wish people would stop undervaluing Kelly Wunsht. When he is healthy, he is a good, cheap reliever that Sox underutilized last year.
  14. I have a hard time believing Sox didn't MRI him back during 2003 ST which he missed. I mean my God, decreased arm speed and range of motion were aparent as soon as he joined the big club that year. From T-friggin'-V!!! It's hard to comperehend how a major league team can fail like this time and tme again. :headshake
  15. To be fair to Marte bashers....he's pitched no better than Politte when the game was on the line this season. Really bad. Must shape up and fast.
  16. I support him alright, but Sox still need a closer for the pennat race/post-season. All we can hope for is Koch pitching his ASS off, completely regaining velocity, putting up great numbers at the Break......Then he can be a part of the trade.
  17. If there's a set-back in Prior's rehabilitation, then Cubs should start worrying -- Sosa's back ain't gonna magically heal, either. Of course, NL Wild Card "race" will be weak, and Hendry will make trades.......but Cubs are no longer the favorites.
  18. Excuse me? The "bashing" was absolutely necessary. It was not an indictment of his personality, his soul or worth as a man.......but of his PITCHING abilities. He pitched like s*** as a member of the White Sox, a cute finish to 2002 notwithstanding. It's a fact. If it wasn't thw Sox being criminally stupid and not shelving him early in 2003 when he lost all that velocity and break....it can only mean one thing: he HID a f***ing injury and couldn't win in 19 straight starts, in the process helping destroy a very important, historic 2003 season and already put the Sox in the hole in 2004. :puke
  19. Oh yeah? Much inferior overall hitter Much inferior clutch hitter Much inferior base-runner No better defensively. His all-star year was as an Oriole. Nice try. Come to think of it....Manos might just end up being the second best Sox SS of all time in a few years.
  20. Crede must produce...NOW. He's been very steady defensively, no question, but he is playing a power position and he's just getting overmatched at the plate. Those who say he's been clutch in '04 have not looked at the numbers: -on pace to 20+ GIDP -.160 with RISP -.180 close and late He's been touted as a rising star for a few years now. Well, let's see it.
  21. No, it's not. Unless it's a slow chopper and/or you got Ichiro running....you better turn that DP or make that tough force-out at 2nd instead of an easy one at 1st, etc. Example: Vizquel had his 3rd botched DP in like last week alone, whether because he has a weak arm or is just too stylish/non-chalant for his own good. That's 3 outs unaccounted for. 3 errors, in effect. If it was up to me, standards for fielding would go up as to reward big-range, big-armed, aggressive-but-also-error-prone SS. Otherwise, the way things are right now....stylish, conservative soft-tossers get too much credit for making less errors even though their total defensive contribution may not be that much better -- if at all -- when all the plays over 150+ games are tallied up.
