I guess nobody wants to discuss the McDonald's commericials and the effect they're having on the downfall of American society? -

this is extremely off-topic, but are McDonald's commercials the absolute WORST on television? stupid songs on stupid topics, aren't there laws against golfing in the middle of the street in the middle of the city? -

I do to but I'm willing to waive it if they trade me to anywhere on the east coast, so I can be closer to my family, which resides in Moscow, Russia (formerly the USSR...but we will return) -

where does Hawk wearing an eye patch rank on the Unintentional Comedy Scale? good to have you back, Hawk. -
it seems that fans that don't know much about baseball boo the wrong people. in New York, they have the Mets and Yankees, and lots of those Yankee fans would be Mets fans if the Mets had been winning more the past 10 years. so last year the Yankee fans boo Jeter (who should have a lifetime pass from getting booed in New York, simply because he was the main player on a team that won 4 World Series in 5 years, same with Mariano Rivera). Dusty Baker pulls the Cubs out of the gutter within 1 game of the World Series, and I saw a sign last year at the final Cubs game that he should be fired. so now they're going to boo anybody that blows a 9th inning lead. this quote proves my point: "Lee was particularly upset Tuesday night when Baker was booed vociferously while taking starter Greg Maddux out of the game with a 6-0 lead after 100 pitches and 62/3 innings."

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 12, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Okay, why are Sox fans such sluts for the national media? 'f*** espn, I don't care what espn says, screw espn' -- then in a chat, asking 'Why don't you like us?' LOSE the inferiority complex, ask INTERESTING questions... I liken the White Sox to all the lesser known and unknown celebrity brothers. Jeremy Giambi, Frank Stallone, Eric Roberts, Michael Garciaparra. except in the case of the White Sox, Jeremy Giambi could hit 50 HRs and Jason Giambi would still get all the press.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) The arbitration argument is valid if BMac is not ready, or other options are available that have as much chance of filling our needs. You don't want to pull that trigger, or the "option" trigger on a guy like BMac if you don't have to. yeah, but if he's not ready, he shouldn't be called up anyway. and he obviously wouldn't be valuable in a long-relief role, so keep him in AAA until needed.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) I think you missed that was sarcasm. Anything is green text is meant to be sarcastic. sorry I'm still new here. put that one on me.

QUOTE(beck72 @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:35 AM) Having a Top closer is overrated it can still make all the difference. for example, you think we would have lost last night if we had Billy Wagner firing 99 MPH fastballs to Jorge Cantu instead of Shingo's high 80's fastballs? what about earlier this season vs. Cleveland, when Shingo gave up 3 9th inning homeruns? it would have been infinitely more difficult for Ronnie Belliard to turn on a Wagner fastball.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 11, 2005 -> 11:30 AM) You don't "buy" the arbitration "arguement" huh? You do understand how arbitration works do you not? please everybody stop with the arbitration arguement. we're trying to win NOW, not in 2011. if B Mac can help us win NOW, and we instead lose him to free agency in 2011 instead of 2012, then call him up and start the arbitration clock.

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) Wow, props to Tony for abandoning that sinking ship. I almost don't blame him. they lose 104 games, then don't bring anybody in to improve the club, plus I'm almost sure they'll be trading Mike Sweeney, they've only had him this long because they did OK in 2003, and the way things look, they'll lose even more games this year.

anyone else see the grown man wearing a Yankee jersey catch Beltre's HR, then celebrate like he plays LF and just robbed Beltre? and I say grown man because he brought a baseball glove to a game, which there should be an age limit on. I can't decide which is worse, him catching the homerun, celebrating while wearing a Yankee jersey, or that he caught the ball with a glove and is clearly older than, well, 16, which is what the limit should be.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 9, 2005 -> 04:11 AM) I remeber that great Colon game ont he 4th of July where Koch gave up the bomb to Crawford. Uh. LEt's erase those types of memories by taking care of business. As bad as Nomo-san is, we haven't had a lot of guys see him too much so hopefully we do take a good approach who is this "Koch"? -
in the rookie draft this June, do the Arizona Diamondbacks or Kansas City Royals hold the first pick? I thought it was the Royals, it being an odd-numbered year, but Peter Gammons recently said in his column that the D'Backs will be selecting Justin Upton with the first pick this year. so, in short, who picks first?

quick riddle...What do you get when your ball club loses 104 games and they do nothing to improve they club over the off-season? -
Hawk and DJ have been talking about "the other 42," saying you're guarunteed 60 wins and 60 losses, but last year the Royals won 58 and the D'Backs won 51, and in 2003 the Tigers won 43. plus, in 2001, the Mariners lost 46, so shouldn't they change it to the other 72 or 82?

one more point: the fact is that even though the bullpen is shaky, Ozzie needs to be able to trust it. if the score is 7-3 going into the bottom of the 7th, and Buehrle starts showing signs of wear, go to Damaso, Vizcaino, or Hermanson. go to a fresh arm to finish the game, that's why the have the bullpen. plus, Buehrle isn't going to go 9 innings every time he starts.
-
I just want to say that game last night was 3 notches above excruciating. we did the same sort of thing vs. KC, but we somehow won that one. we will not beat good teams making 4 (3? was that a type-o in the box score?) errors and balking in the tying run. it also showed the flaws this team has: a shaky bullpen and little depth.

Sox @ A'ss Game Thread (4/26 @ 9:05 p.m. CT)
AirScott replied to Jabroni's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) WHAT??? WILLIE MADE AN ERROR AGAINST THE ROYALS JUST A COUPLE DAYS AGO THAT ALMOST BLEW THE GAME FOR US. HE WAS PLAYING HIS NATURAL POSITION OF 2ND BASE AS WELL. ANY MORE EXCUSES NOW? WILLIE SUCKS. chill. we're 16-4, playing great. we shouldn't still have a chance to win tonight, and we shouldn't have beaten the Royals the other day. I'll "settle" for 8 in a row. -
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) But if that were the case, why didn't he start the season in the bigs? because our rotation is solid 1-5, so it would be a waste to bring him up as a long-reliever. instead give him the starts in AAA until we need him.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) Don't worry...The Yanks and BoSox will field the entire AL starting lineup anyways. don't forget Ichiro...he could go 0-for-May thru June and still get the votes because every Japanese citizen with an internet connection voting for him in RF.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 07:54 AM) Yeah -- I don't get it either. If Contreras is only going to be out one or two starts, I don't see the need to call up McCarthy. Why not just call up someone like Adkins who can make a spot start if need be? I realize he hasn't shown a whole lot so far at Charlotte (Adkins), but he'd be servicable. I guess I don't see the need to get the arb. clock started so early... I don't think money should have anything to do with this. if calling up McCarthy gives us the better chance of winning now, then call him up. but if not, then don't. but don't not call him up because we would have him on the club for six more years instead of seven.

Ordonez calls Sox skipper his 'enemy'
AirScott replied to South Side Fireworks Man's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Anyone still upset that we didn't re-sign him? No? Didn't think so. yeah, a little bit. not like this would be happening had he stayed. Maggs is a good ball-player, and Dye is no upgrade, Maggs has been hurt, but his knee isn't the issue.
