QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Oz won't change anything as long as they keep winning. It will take a 3 or 4 game losing streak where the pitching is still relatively good for Oz to tinker with the lineup. He just plugs people into w/e hole they fill in the batting order based on position when he substitutes. When Timo replaced Dye in the starting lineup he batted 5th , which to me was very weird. yeah I started a thread on that last part. someone there said it had to do with lefty-righty matchups, but I left for a while and responded saying that Timo isn't a #5 hitter against either. who knows, maybe Tuesday would have been won by a wider margin had Timo been moved down. but we won, so it's a moot point.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Not in the outfield, where qwerty wants to see Gload over Timo. I wouldn't think so either, but his bat is better, so if Gload would DH and Everett would play in the outfield when Dye, Pods, or Rowand aren't playing that would be better.
-
I was asking for the Twins stretch with Offerman as clean-up hitter, I know what the Sox record is. and the lefty-righty matchup thing doesn't fly here, because I'm not talking in -game substitutions, I'm talking players hitting out of place in the lineup.
-
how did they do in that stretch, though?
-
at least Jim Rome's show is good for something...what kind of sports show would have Roger Lodge in any sports-related discussion?
-
anybody says Jerry Manuel, and I think my head will explode. he basically ran a top 5 MLB closer out of town because of a slow start. I'd go with Ozzie, because once he gets this whole lineup thing figured out, he's going to be one hell of a manager.
-
I don't know how to word this right, so I'll just give examples, like on Tuesday night, when Timo Perez was playing in RF for Dye, Timo batted 5th. or when Pods was out, and Ozuna and Timo always hit leadoff, or today, Harris played instead of Iguchi and hit in Iguchi's usual number 2 spot. is there any reason behind this, or did he already make 162 lineup cards, and just has to fill in the names every day?

QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) I sat in Section 148, Row 29, and there was this guy who kept walking up and down the stairs right by me wearing a Yankees hat, a Cubs jersey, and a Devil Rays jacket...VERY strange!!! sometimes people don't know how to cheer for, so they give up. I went to a Rockies game when I was in Denver and saw a kid a few rows in front of me in a D'Backs hat. Randy Johnson was pitching that day, and had a perfect game going through 5 or so when he gave up a homerun, and the kid in the D'Backs hat started cheering. the same with those hats that have all the NBA logos on them.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) Joe Crede...if the Sox had a guy that could play against the LHP's then I could see making a case for having Jose at 3rd. you realize Valentin hit only .226 vs righties last year anyway. my point remains that Valentin is good for nothing.
-
I just posted this cause I never liked Valentin. his defense is terrible, and he hits .220/30/70 in a hitters park. the guy shouldn't even be in the majors, and Crede is still young.
-
didn't Dusty Baker turn a pushover into a team that came within a few outs of the World Series? I'm a Sox fan, and hearing Cubs fans and Mariotti bashing Dusty Baker and Sammy Sosa is almost as bad as Yankee fans booing Jeter last year and Rivera this year.
-
I wouldn't read anything into this article, or anything by Jay Mariotti for that matter. all the guy does is piss and moan about everything, never having anything good to say. just once I'd like to hear him praise something.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) Crede plays 3rd. Valentin plays short. We had both. yeah, I know. that's why it's Jose Valentin, and not Trent Durrington and Jeff Cirillo in the poll.
-
I'm just wondering who everyone would rather have, cause there's a lot of people bashing Crede here, and I just think it could be worse. A lot worse.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) It's still there, look it up. Doesn't anyone still hold THIS ritual sacred in the Church of Baseball? doesn't seem like it...remember when Mussina had a perfect game going in game 1 of the ALCS last year, and Joe Buck was all but shouting that Mussina was perfect so far?
-
tonyho, same here. I'm in for the support group, though he's making me look like an idiot for saying he'll hit .280-25-80 (so far)

QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) I was looking at the standings, they're pretty weird.... Every AL team is 2-2 except the ChiSox are 3-1 and the Rangers are 1-3. At least we're on pace to finish with a record of 121.5-40.5 yeah, and Buehrle is on pace to go 41-0 with 203 Ks, but that pace probably won't hold.

guys, chill out. Shingo is the closer, and he had given Ozzie no reason not to give him the ball in the 9th. it's too early to say Shingo shouldn't be our closer, give it some time. also, for the people who don't understand why there are designated closers, name a team in the past, say, 10 years that made the World Series without a designated closer (cause I don't feel like looking it up myself, though I'm pretty sure every team did).

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:41 AM) As much as I liked this guy....his strikeouts and bad glove just had to go. you forgot the low average and low OBP.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) He's only a one pitch pitcher, and the Red Sox have seen him 8239832983983 times in the past 2 seasons. They'll eventually have to figure him out, even if they're a bunch of idiots. that's sounds about right, except you got your facts wrong. the Red Sox have seen him 23 times in the past 2 seasons, not 8239832983983. no big deal, though.

Rowand says there's no selfish players on the Sox
AirScott replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rowand didn't say a single word about the team from last year, so this Carol Slezak is just trying to start something...I have really only heard good things in the past about Valentin, Mags, and Lee in terms of clubhouse presence. in fact, since Valentin has no other marketable skills, he'd better be a good clubhouse guy, or he'd have been out on his ass. -
I really don't see the Twins or Cubs in the World Series this year, but the reason the White Sox get no love in any predictions is because this team has a lot to prove. this year, it's hit or miss, because the starters are shaky and we're not sure if Podsednik is the type of hitter he was in 03 or 04, or if Everett can step up in Frank's absence, or if Iguchi can adjust to the MLB, or if Crede can come back from a down year...I'm confident, though. we could win the division, or we could finish as low as 4th.
-
Tike Redman should be hitting 1st or 2nd. that is all.
-
if not for injuries and the pitching going to s***, the Sox would have won the division last year. Neyer didn't know about Dye, and Dye is less of a question mark than Everett, who would be starting if not for Dye. this team has a lot of question marks (did we get the Podsednik of 03 or 04, will AJ turn it around, will the shaky starters hold form?), that having Everett start in the outfield and somebody else at DH until Frank Thomas returns would just be too many question marks.
-
hey, in SI's baseball preview, a scout says "Joe Crede is going to be a star in this league." I've been telling people Crede could definitely put up a .285/25/85 season. he had a down year last year but still had some clutch hits for us.
