QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) Now can he go 4-for-4 and allow Milledge and Humber to make the team? what an absolute joke if its lillibridge over milledge
-
i think it was over before it even started. i knew there was no way it would be tehean, we know ozzie is a defense type guy

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) It's funny because I've just kind of counted Lillibridge out all along since he's, you know, terrible. I had no idea anyone was hoping he'd make the roster out of spring training. What versatility he does possess is redundant on this ballclub, he's probably slower than the other 2 he's competing against, I know for a fact he's slower than De Aza, he's the oldest of the 3 (19 months older than Milledge, 1 year older than De Aza) and he's the weakest hitter of the bunch since he's pretty much a disgrace at the plate. I just assumed he'd be dumped near the end of camp, likely via trade for next to nothing and either De Aza or Milledge would be carried. I thought De Aza may have a slight advantage since he can't be sent to the minors without first clearing waivers and Milledge can though Lastings has at least proven that he can hit a little at the major league level, something De Aza hasn't had a chance to prove really thanks in part to the devastating ankle injury he suffered in '07. And then there's Milledge's potential. I'm still thinking De Aza or Milledge and I'm not sure I REALLY care which of the 2 is chosen though I'd probably lean toward Milledge. This is also assuming Milledge has no out clause in his contract, something I haven't seen reported anywhere. They're generally given to vets, though Milledge's production last season really should have landed him with a major league gig for 2011 so it'd be odd to see him start the season in the minors. couldnt agree more, milledge, deaza>>>>lilli

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 11, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) .224 .248 .378 .625 is far from good. And I doubt he even repeats that. yea and he sucks defensively in the infield. he had trouble making the throw from 2nd lol thats like saying teahen can play 3rd. is listed as being able to play 3rd but he clearly cant. ill take milledge, easily

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) The bullpen situation is sort of up in the air for two reasons. Number one is Jake Peavy's status. Number two is how many pitchers they break camp with. oh, ok. i had read in the paper today about lindsay and someone else,i cant remember who. but he wasnt mentioned in terms of being an option.

2 questions: i havent heard much about infante so far, i thought he was going to be the last bullpen arm/long reliever. any word on him? and 2, if viciedo is sent to aaa to get regular ab's , is it millege and deaza making the team or just one of them?

White Sox vs Dodgers 1st Spring Training Game

QUOTE (Real @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 03:00 PM) Oh my god, Miguel Cabrera looks like he gained 35 pounds of fat lol i was shocked when i saw him in the updates too especially since leyland said this earlier this month: "I know for a fact, without getting into this situation, I know for a fact Miguel Cabrera is in the best shape of his life. He's stronger than he's ever been, and he's quicker than he's ever been . . . I think Miguel Cabrera is probably going to have the biggest year of his life. yea sure looks like it lol -
"A lot of the stuff with Ozzie (Guillen) and the front office gets old,'' Jenks said. "It has been a problem for a long time. It was a problem before last year. … It's going to be nice for me to see how things are done here.'' yea and u being a fatass and blowing 3 run saves gets old too

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
Melissa1334 replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
i thought the cards drew a lot of people? meaning why is their payroll 95-100 mil? with a team that usually contends every year and a marketable player like pujols, you would think they would have a payroll around 120mil or so -
QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Hence the early presale for April/May games. well if you want to go to the games cheap, thats when to go i guess. i wanted to see peavy pitch so i went the second game of the season last year(since i knew he was pitching that day) and i got second row on the third base line ,right next to the tarp, they were 19 dollars a piece for 2 tickets, cant beat that. people just dont really go because its cold and school i guess
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Im just like everyone else, If I could be at every single game I would I enjoy the environment that much over watching on TV. But the truth is unless I get a half price ticket or have a friend with "extras" for free I cant really go. Everytime I go, I already have to make sure I can park for "free" in one my secret spots a few blocks from the park and always make sure that I eat before I go, or stop somewhere and eat for $5 on the way because I cant afford $20 for a dog/pretzel/beer combo. Having mad student loans and not good income is not a good living combination. and thats kind of my point. its not like we dont go because we dont want to or because they suck, its just not that cheap. just because wrigley gets all the partying people that love wasting their money doesnt mean we do. they think were like them, that they get 3mil + that the sox should too. really different fan bases if you ask me.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) I don't think it matters much if they spend 50 million or 150 million. If they win, the fans are more likely to show up. Just glancing at last years attendance it looks like for the first 2 months of the season they were averaging around 20,000 during the week and between 25,000 and 30,000 on weekends. The problem is they went 2-4 in their first homestand and them came back home after their first road trip in last place at 4-9. Compare that to Monday July 26 when they came home in first place and had a nearly sold-out crowd. The attendance peaked in 2006 and has been on a steady decrease ever since. Even with the division title in 2008 mostly because they haven't had enough sustained success. i dont think its all just about success. its kind of..wrong , i guess, that the sox say how more fans need to go or go when the team wins but its not exactly the cheapest thing to go to. i went to 6 games last year but its just me and my husband. but for a family of, say 4, its expensive. bleachers at 38 a person and parking, thats 175 dollars. and thats not including drinks, food, etc. so its not exactly that easy to say hey lets go to a sox game, especially not multiple times a year.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 03:21 PM) I think we're pretty much done and I couldn't be happier with what we've done this offseason! me too but i wish we could have brought freddy and jones back, oh well

Kerry Wood signs 1 year, $1.5 million deal with Cubs
Melissa1334 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) But if he does sign here then isn't that a moot point? He's not going to sign here if he doesn't want to play for the team, we're not the only organization interested in him. i guess his wildness kind of scares me, electric stuff though i guess. would u be happy if the sox signed him? -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Prior was the towel throw king though. Wood was the master of the simulated games. (he did do the towel drill too though) anyways, i dont like wood at the 2/12 that he wants, hes just now reliable at all. i realize u can say that about any reliever but i rather stay away, esp. since he doesnt want to be here. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Wrong frequently injured Cub pitcher. he used to do the towel drill all the time, hes been on the d.l. a million times (when he went on the d.l. in june,it was the 14th time in his career lol, so not the wrong cub) -

Melissa1334 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
ill pass on wood, he was ok last yr but i dont want him. hes too wild(6.2 walks per 9in), was a cub and doesnt want to be here and i perfer that our pitchers actually throw baseballs, not towels and esp. not for the 6mil a yr he wants -
ok so now someone tell me,since im confused, why havent the twins resigned anyone or signed anyone in general?? what happend to all the money they made this yr with their new park?

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) If only Cowley was ever right, but I like the sound of those tweets. i would like to get crain but not for 3 yrs, hes been kind of inconsistent too, like in 09. but i guess a 3.50ish era from ur 6th inning (or so)guy wouldnt be that bad
-
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) If we couldn't afford Putz I don't see how we'd be able to bring in Balfour either. Think it may be bargain bin bullpen shopping for KW. what about someone like crain?
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) Which leaves us with what options in the pen? what about one of the twins' bullpen arms, like crain or guerrier?
-
QUOTE (jphat007 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) You guys are pretty crazy to think that Jenks is going to come crawling back to take little money. Somebody is going to give him some cash. good , i hope he doesnt come back. at this point, we have better options and if bobby isnt closing, hes useless. and when he has been the closer the last couple of years and then got hurt, he messed up the way the pens had been pitching
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Lot of money to match for someone with some health issues the last few years. I think we can be creative and find someone on par with Putz for cheaper. have fun being on a last place team lol ...sox need to get someone else, cant just have santos, thornton, sale, and 3 question marks
