A good bullpen is going to be key especially early in the year when starters are go8ng to be limited with the shortened spring training. I don't mind the signing. It allows Lopez to be the swing man and make spot starts for Kopech.

I think it's more his lack if follow through that was the primary issue. Hopefully, their right for his sake that it's more the cross fire issue.

No. They can use Kopech with Lopez and Crochet to fill in his other starts. I wouldn't want another pitcher that you needed to use more starts from others.

I did not see significant changes in his mechanics that caused most of his issues.

Personally, it's not about the money. They already have Kopech in the rotation who won't pitch a full season. Dedicating another rotation spot for a pitcher who likely won't pitch a full season just makes a mess of the rotation and trying to figure out who can pitch.

Can you give any justification that he will be effective for an entire season when he hasn't ever made more than 28 starts and 165 innings and that was only once 6 years ago. Its a guess on either side whether or not he can be healthy for even a season.

Even if they get minor league filler, they have committed no money to him. They can spend it elsewhere then. Your scenario is entirely plausible. Trade Kimbrel for nothing, use his money elsewhere. However, there is a chance that nothing turns into something. Nothing lost either way.

It remains to be seen if Rodon>Kimbrel. It a huge risk committing a rotation spot to Rodon.
