  1. No. The team started playing better because the new guy, Keuchal, called them out in the media. It was just a coincidence that TA returned to the lineup the next day./sarcasm
  2. If the GM can pit together an 85 win team much differently than a 90 win team, they are really good at their jobs. With injuries and the randomness of the game this is a poorly developed argument.
  3. Right but if they shorten the season, the players will make more for fewer games. Only the players who advance to the world series will actually play more games than the current system.
  4. Where would the more games come from? Unless they dont shorten the season.
  5. I don't see how its bad for players. If they shorten the season, the ones who don't make the playoffs get paid for less work. Those hat makes the playoffs get a share of playoff money.
  6. Many times it's whose playing best at the time. Especially in baseball where the under .500 team may have been missing a TOR starter for part of the year.
  7. In case you haven't seen the ratings for baseball compared to the NFL and NBA, there is no well enough to leave alone.
  8. This is never a recipe for success in just about everything.
  9. It's actually not that small when you look at all of the scholarship from all levels of the NCAA. Granted it's still fairly small but without it, it is absolutely nothing. Parents just really need to be objective about it and that's really hard to do. We had to make the choice with our daughter and running. She was among the top in Illinois which is a good but not the best for girls running. She had some offers from smaller schools. It wasn't until she competed in NY, TX, and CA against the some of the top national competition that she received offers from bigger DI programs. And this is in a sports against a clock which you would think would be strictly numbers based. Athletes need to be seen with big competition to get offers. It's just the way it is.
  10. He is essentially the owners puppet in most cases so if he really thought it was a good idea then HE would need to convince the owners it was a more cost effective way to do it. I'm not sure it would bring more people into the sport.
  11. You'll have to convince them that it's more cost effective than the current system.
  12. Scouts in general give performances in the Midwest less credence due to the decreased playing time and perceived lack of competition. It isn't absolutely nothing. As you said previously the odds are stacked against it for pro ball. However the increased visibility makes it much more likely they will get at least a portion of thier higher education paid for.
  13. Probably back to selling cars in Indiana, where he was a couple of years ago.
  14. That really isn't feasible with no days off.
  15. If he shows the control of the last couple of innings, I'm more likely to lean this way. I think he retired the last 9 he faced. The timid, I have no idea where the ball is going Lopez scares me against playoff teams. It is by no means a slam dunk but I would be biased toward the better control.
  16. I agree however that is not the culture in youth sports unfortunately. Especially in the Midwest where it is difficult to be seen.
  17. Unfortunately, the analytics has taken some of this analysis away. Numbers don't tell this story.
  18. Agree with all of this. I think the WAR will increase as he gets more comfortable with the league for base running and defense.
  19. If they make it to the ALCS, I'm leaning toward him being a starter.
  20. Baseball has always been a "market the name on the front of the jersey not the back" philosophy.
