  1. The only other person I recall doing that regularly was Cal Ripken. He changed his stance regularly based on the pitches he was seeing.
  2. I'm not defending him at all. I'm not saying I agree with the decision by either him or the company. In today's climate he should have known better than to make comments like that. I'm just saying that he wasn't making the comment to be because he thinks lesser of the reporter as the other poster suggested. edit: I guess I am defending his motivation behind the comment but certainly not the decision to make the comment. He's been in the business long enough to know the climate and what is going to get him in trouble. Although with his history self control is not a strong suit
  3. That used to be much more common. Players would stand as far back in the box as they could to see a fastball pitcher and would move up to the front against a breaking ball pitcher. But you're right you don't see it much anymore.
  4. How has he been paid the last couple of years compared to not having the deal? I know the Sox will save in the long term but have they seen savings yet?
  5. He was basically making a joke about the leather top and the amount of skin showing being inappropriate for an NFL sideline reporter. That's it. He wasn't degrading the reporter. He wasn't making a comment about thinking lesser of a person. It was an inappropriate joke using topics he is familiar with. If you've listened to him over the years, it was nothing deeper than that. He's made many comments about men and the 70's porn star mustache and such.
  6. Actually he doesn't. Over the years he has talked about the industry, going to their conventions and even had some of the stars for interviews on his shows.
  7. Multi sport athlete is one of the best predictors in lower injury rates. It changes the stresses on the body and no one area is overused
  8. I think it is for pitchers as injuries are an unknown variable. I still think it matters for hitters. Keeping salaries down makes a difference in the longterm for most teams.
  9. I agree. I thought she did a good job as the host on the Sox shows. The only issue is can she put up with the arrogant Bernstein on a daily basis. I'm sure that's why it's every Wednesday for now.
  10. Agreed. If he gets another start and shows the control of his last couple of innings, they may use him in the playoffs. While its a little scary the Sox may have significant contributions from a number of rookies in the playoffs. Dunning, Robert, Madrigal, Heuer, Foster, Stiever. Good sign for the future.
  11. Cleveland lost by their pitcher hitting two gus in a row when there were 2 already on.
  12. What better way to work his way back in than with a 4 run lead?
  13. Look at the beating McCann has taken tonight. How many posters are going to throw a fit if he isn't there to hold giolitos hand tomorrow?
  14. It's his 4rh mlb start. Hes barely started learning.
  15. yes. that and they thought they saw something they could change to take him to the next level. They need time to let him adjust to those changes. It's not fair yo a player to tell him to change and then not give him time to adjust to those changes.
  16. This was a great article. i read it a couple of days ago. He is a great guy. I had a chance to ask him about his injury and surgery which essentially ended his effectiveness as a pitcher. He was very forthcoming about everything to a person he didn't know. One of the reason I got into working with pitchers and the MLB.
  17. Nothing yet. However, after the first inning, Stiever actually looked look he knew where the ball was going. If he continues that, I would pitch him over Lopez. Lopez still looks like he has no idea where the ball is going.
  18. The call for Dyson for Eloy, probably, McCann starting probably not much. This is whole purpose of the analytics departments. Run the numbers and simulations to determine the optimal lineups. However it's not just for that day but for each series and each week to determine what is best overall.
  19. This makes pitching depth a huge variable. No days means pitchers can't pitch twice in any series except the world series. Maybe one in the LCS pitching on 4 days rest. Bullpens will be a major factor.
