  1. Well he already destroyed part of their scoreboard so he does owe them.
  2. I believe its from their contention that they would have receive that much from the fans in the seats for whatever portion of the season is played. Since has been since determined that fans won't be in the seats and the players won't renegotiate they are out that money and the players are out nothing.
  3. Yep. They are both after short term benefits and are sacrificing the long term good of the game.
  4. That would be the only way to make sure they dont lose the grievance. The bastards.
  5. No it faults the owners as well. It is definitely not one sided.
  6. Read the article by Jeff passon in ESPN before you place the blame all on the greedy owners. But yes baseball does need a fundamental change from all.
  7. At the university we did take a pay rate cut for summer courses. The pay for "overload " courses is different than the regular semesters. Luckily our benefits did not change.
  8. Hopefully as everything progresses people learn to change their behavior. I'm not convinced you can change what they truly believe, but if enough people face these types of consequences maybe they'll be afraid for their jobs and change their behavior.
  9. Sure they do. That doesn't mean it's in the best interest of the game. This is why both sides need to give a little for this weird situation. Negotiate the CBA after the season.
  10. Good point. Comes down to getting the playoff money.
  11. Hes not wrong though.
  12. I guess I see it more as the sports needs to take the risk. It good for the overall league to play. If they dont play the sport itself will suffer which will lead to the overall decline. That hurts everyone.
  13. I think it would be wrong to not to at least try to have a season. All fo the other sports are. They should try it and if they need to cut it short so be it.
  14. So what is the loss if there are no playoffs? Inconsequential? It's hard to have compassion for either side, when neither negotiated.
  15. Right. They aren't part of the union until the MLB and a very small percentage make it.
  16. Agreed. It's become just a precursor to the CBA negotiations and they are both looking out for themselves not the good of the game in a bad situation. These tactics are fine in normal negotiations but not in this extraordinary situation.
  17. I agree about the players stance. This would be a decent offer.
  18. That would be a good compromise. Not sure f the players go for it though. There wouldn't be many days off with that many games.
  19. I'm in the category of some baseball is better than no baseball. Especially with all of the young talent the Sox have. I want them to get as much experience and development as possible. Even if they need to cut it even shorter for a 2nd wave of the virus.
  20. There was a report on the radio this morning that a meeting for the owners was happening today.
  21. You must not have read much of the thread I dont think there has been one person who has said the owners are right and the players are wrong.
  22. That's good. Someone should make t-shirts.
  23. The owners are taking the majority of the risk, economically, by the chance there wont be playoffs. If the players had a proposal of deceased prorated pay if there were no playoffs but full prorated pay if there were playoffs it would be different. But the players didnt want that risk. Which is there right but I'm sure the union just turned up the tension for the CBA which they can do as well. When the state did not give the university money during the budget impasse a few years ago we did renegotiate our CBA. The union realized that if we dont help out there could be serious consequences for the university. We did take a pay cut to ensure that instructors and staff were not laid off. We also took no raises for 2 years in an attempt to make up those lost millions. Both sides gave some for the benefit of the students and the university.
  24. That is the philosophy of WHY the players shouldn't take a paycut. Not the fact that they arent getting more of the money. And all of this is based on the revenues from the playoff money. If there are playoffs the players are getting more of the money if there are no playoffs than it's a huge loss for the owners and the players don't seem to care. Which of course is there right. However if the owners lose that much dont think that there arent going to be significant issues down the road when bargaining for the CBA begins. As it stands now the way the union and Boras (he finally has 3 out of 8 clients on the union executive committee) are hardlining this, it looks to be a better than average chance of some kind of work stoppage for the next CBA.
