  1. I would think thats the plan. When Rodon returns they will have the choice of the other of those to for the pen. The bullpen could be really good with both Lopez and Gonzalez in it.
  2. Kopech has been ready since the fall. Most pitchers return from UCL-R at around 12 months. He's been about 22 months.
  3. The only one who may not be ready is Rodon. They should have Giolito, Kopech, Cease, Gonzalez and Keuchal.
  4. That's just sports though. The drafts and player acquisition is designed so that the teams that are the best have a disadvantage. Especially in baseball where the draft is such a crapshoot dynasties are rare. Teams can be playoff good but it's tough to be in the WS year after year. You are correct with no salary cap, the elite payrolls have a better chance.
  5. It is a good thing, that's my point. Although physically throwing breaking stuff around sophomore seems to be the best. This is why I think he is in a good situation. People point out he is physically developed and has no room to grow. His dominant high school stats are also viewed as a negative because he was physically advanced. however he did it without the breaking ball.I think he can grow as a pitcher by adding that breaking ball.
  6. I think his injury risk is lower than most high school pitchers for the reasons stated above. As far as if he will learn how to pitch to higher competition, that's a crapshoot. He didn't really use a breaking pitch much in HS so that's where his development really lies.
  7. This is why so many high school pitchers flame out. Some grow into it, some don't. Some try to throw to hard and aren't physically ready and wreck their arms.
  8. To me this is the key. He's not a high school kid stressing his arm trover the next few yearsing to fool kids with braking stuff and his fastball. The FB/CH combo is good. They can teach him and perfect a breaking pitch over the next few years. The ease and quality of the delivery as well. He's not a gangly kid using everything he has to reach that velocity.
  9. Yes. It's mostly injury attrition. The college arms have been through an increased load and have shown more durability. Teams don't need to pay them for that. Drafting out if high school usually demands a big bonus and they take the greater chance of injury. The good thing about Kelley is he is already matured so that risk is less. However, he wont improve his performance much from a physical standpoint. This is one of the critiques on him. The improvement will come from learning that breaking ball and how to pitch.
  10. Yes. If it is near the end of the, ligament. If it's toward the middle they suture it and add an augmentation.
  11. Its relatively new over the past few years. It's a repair not a reconstruction. They are starting to get good results. It is only effective if only one band of the UCL is involved.
  12. At least this had really good college numbers. The fact that he needs to miss this year due to UCL reconstruction doesn't really matter because none of them will be playing this year.
  13. Would be even better if they could sign some to long term deals.
  14. I like his motion. He knows what he's doing .
  15. Talk about fun guy to hang around with. I would live to sit within in a bar and let him go.
  16. What? People have different opinions? I'm shocked!/green
  17. Ginn has a forward drift of his body before he starts his arm motion similar the the old drop and drive motion, although not as much. I'm not sure how much it had to do with his elbow but it's easily corrected. Other than that the motion is good in my view.
  18. No doubt. Especially when he talk about not being into the technology stuff like TV, video games and social media.
  19. The key will be if they can keep him from max velocity on a regular basis like they did with Sale while he was here. That could be tough as they couldn't do it with Kopech. Harder to do in today's game.
  20. The cross body action that makes him effective against lefties is also the motion that put stress on his arm, along with the lack of flexion in his follow through.
