It improves the team, without hamstringing them for years to come like a Castellanos contract would.
-
It's not a good philosophy to buy the sparkling object if it doesnt fit what you need. Better to be patient and find the best option. Spend now, SPEND NOW.
-
Because pieces like Robert, madrigal and kopech most likely wont quite be eady to compete this year.
-
Could be but I don't think so. JR never wanted to tear down a team and totally rebuild. I think he very reluctantly agreed to it. If it isn't successful after 5 years, I think he will, be pissed and get a new FO.
-
I disagree. I think if the team isn't winning in 2022 all of rebuild will have failed and change.
-
Since that isn't going to happen soon, they need to work with what they have.
-
It all depends on if the teams wins. If they dont start winning, it will be a new FO in 2022. If they win then it really doesnt matter.
-
The Sox have shown that they will pay for their own like buerhle. However, you are correct that they will need to make decisions on who to keep and who to deal. The FO said during the mchado debacle that part of the reason not to go higher was looking to the future to resign their own star players.
-
This for hitters not pitchers. The TOR need to be traded for or developed for a team like the Sox who aren't going to have a budget near 200 mil.
-
I agree with this. This is a better option than paying what ozuna or Castellanos will get. If it doesnt work out, they aren't out much and can get better options next year when they should contend for the playoffs.
-
They may want to bat Robert down in the order to start. He is going to struggle mightily early on with his swing and miss approach. This board will be freaking out with his early struggles. RH/KW will be crucified over their poor talent evaluation. I can see it now " I dont care if he looked good in the minors, they should have known he would suck at the MLB level" It will be an entertaining summer.
-
Exactly. He is only here for a 2 year stop gap until one of the prospects take the RF spot.
-
This issue with wood is, he will really tax a bullpen. He just doesnt pitch many innings. If they sign him they better improve the bullpen.
-
I would disagree that they have missed on the appropriate one, so far.
-
I dont recall anyone saying the money needs to all be spent this off season. People in this board are like my teenage daughter. "Spend it all NOW" Not wait for more appropriate deals when they happen.
-
KW evil incarnate.

I agree. With the additions of Grandal, Robert, Madrigal and Mazara, I think their satisfied with the lineup.

Interesting thoughts here. With the pitching trend the wat it is now, there will always be high pitch counts early in games for pitchers like kopech. He has never thrown more than 140 innings in a season regardless of the UCL surgery so his limit is probably about that number. I really don't like the idea if wasting his development and innings in the minors but the service time may be worth it. I could see a kopech/rodon combo for the season as one spot in the rotation. As far as the rehab goes there really isn't much variance in UCL protocols. Unlike the shoulder where different muscles or parts of the cuff can be involved, the UCL is pretty much the same across the board. Burdi had a medial patella femoral ligament reconstruction due to a dislocated patella. I'm not surprised he had difficulty with his return as he must have list a great deal of leg strength. I think he will surprise people this year.

While I agree with all of the baseball information, the title 9 is wholly inaccurate. They get partial scholarships just like the female athletes because football and basketball eat up all of the money. The justification is that they are the revenue generating sports. Which if is their reason, baseball would not get any more money even if title 9 didn't give female athletes money. Didn't mean to derail but this topic always gets my going.

I would give more years to keuchal than ryu because if all the reasons discussed. I have no issues giving him 4 years.
-
One of those reasons I've always preferred Keuchal.
-
Very much so. He will bring a longer term veteran stability to the pitching staff. Giolito has been up and down. Kopech is returning from injury. Cease is inconsistent. Lopez is very inconsistent. Keuchel may not have the upside that Ryu has but he also doesn't have the injury history. Keuchal would be the target to stabilize and provide consistency to the staff. Both would be nice but if it's only one I take Keuchal.
-
I would be very happy.

Surgery is a justifiable reason to change.
