  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 07:07 AM) Can we just stop with all of these BS narratives about choosing the Cubs because of a sales pitch or because they have a "plan"? Nearly $26 million AAV. He chose them because of money, that's how free agency works. There's nothing with admitting that. The end of the deal could get ugly, but until then Lester should be legit. When you potentially have so many cheap, cost-controlled plus bats, it makes it much easier to stomach an overpay for an ace. They offered 35 million more than any other team to get him.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) K's will be a aplenty at USCF, only not from our hitters this year. Let's hope not.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 06:08 PM) Baseball players are such hillbillies. Him and Laroche are gonna get along just fine It's just that most of them don't come from the cities where there isn't enough room to play baseball.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 02:32 PM) Two lower transverse fractures. Were the transeverse processes displaced? That could be a nasty inury if so. There's a good chance he could out for a little bit. But not too long if they werent displaced.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) Just in case anyone wondered, Rodon was bow hunting deer in Indiana.... http://instagram.com/p/vWWULgl14P/ Smallish buck. I would've waited for a bigger one. He must not ge competitive and has low standards.
  6. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) Of course they do. And the second RV can guarantee them that every pitcher will throw 7 innings every night, and that no one will blow up in relief, they can have that. The reality of a volatile baseball game and interlocking patterns of rest across each series makes these "roles and plans" impossible 60-70% of the time. It doesn't need to be the traditional innings division but the pitchers need to know their role. Putnam is the guy who comes in if its the 7th inning and the other teams middle of the order is coming up. Petricka is the guy if its 7th inning if its the bottom of the order. But this needs to be discussed, it can't be "just pitch when I tell you to."
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Robertson is obviously the closer, with and Duke, Petricka, Guerra and Putnam in high leverage situations. Don't need this X is the 7th inning guy, y is the 8th inning guy nonsense. Use them as the situation begs. All can handle high leverage action. I wasn't as down on the pen as most were, and this is a pretty darn strong pen, I must say. We know that isn't true. Otherwise they wouldn't have been an awful pen last year.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) It's Closer: Robertson Everything else: matchups Only if they take the time to work in this prior to the season and before each series. I know you don't believe it but these are people and they like to know where they stand.
  9. QUOTE (Sockin @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) He sounded so excited to be here on the Score. Also made it sound like as long as the Sox don't treat him like the Cubs, he'd be open to an extension. Bernstein is such as a$$. He asked JS what he thought about not being with the Cubs because of how good they are going to be in the next few years. He has his nose so far up Epstein's rear it isn't funny.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:37 PM) That's my point. It's philosophical difference. What's more important, the knowledge and skills he gains this year by pitching to MLB players and Coop putting him in advantagious situations, while postponing his full time starting assignment a year. Or starting him the minor to buld up his innings to start his start assignment earlier but have to learn the MLB pitching in all situations where he could get his brains beat in while learning. The other variable would be the Sox wnning, the team is much better if he is in the pen as opposed to the minors. If they don't extend JS and next year is the year, it may be the only option.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:32 PM) Bottom line--I don't care what they do with Rodon next year as long as he's ready to go 200 innings in 2016. If he is in the pen for the whole year, that won't happen, at least not effective innings.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) I'd be totally ok with that, but that's not how I hear those statements. I hear them as "like Sale did in 2011" meaning "full season wasted in the bullpen throwing 60 innings like Sale did in 2011". Yeah, this is why I wouldn't do it this way. He just won't get the work he needs. If he is there the whole season, then next season would need to be the innings building season and you wouldn't have him for the whole season or the Sox will need to live with a pitcher being gassed at the end of a season.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) So much can happen over the next 4-5 months. I'd be surprised if he's in the opening day bullpen. He needs innings. He needs innings but only a limited number based on his previous workloads. I understand the logic behind the moves and there are positives. Personally, I would start him in the minors on an innings limit early in the season and then bring him up about half way.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:14 PM) I think it's completely at odds with the kind of "win now moves" we just made, but it definitely fits the White Sox's classic mold. Most good teams have at least one rookie to break in. I think that's why last year was a "re-bulding" year. The Sox knew they were going to have a number of rookies and wanted to see what they had. The hitters, Abreu, Eaton, showed well. The bullpen pitchers not so much hence the additions in the pitching staff. This year they cn compete with the one rookie in the lineup.
  15. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:12 PM) Yay he's a starting pitcher that has a pulse! There are A LOT of pitchers who can throw 190 innings if there is no one better to replace them. He's done man, he's a soft tossing lefty without a great breaking pitch. And its a shame because I like Danks and he was on his way to have a good career, but some guys never recover from shoulder surgery and its pretty obvious he hasn't. If some other team wants to pay a decent amount of his contract then we should let them and move on. I disagree. Last year was the first time in 3 years he pitched that many innings. Hw was gassed at the end but the Sox needed to push him to get the innings up. He will still be the up and down pitcher but this year the ups will be more frequent in the latter third of the season. He will be better than most 4 or 5 starters.
  16. QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Kenny. Just... ugh. WHY. It makes sense as a way to keep his innings down and to still contribute and learn at the MLB level.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:28 AM) per Levine Phegley goes too Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 6s6 seconds ago Six player trade confirmed by Source Four players to Oakland Ravelo , Phegley Simien Bassett for Samardzija and Minor league pitcher I like the fact that the Sox get a minor league pitcher. It's still a good deal.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) You would be the one to bring that up. Always. It's only thing I know.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) Good thing you're not my teacher. At least I'm not kicking anyone out by giving them a C.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) Robert Murray ‏@RobertMurrayMLB 24s25 seconds ago Source: #WhiteSox also sending INF Rangel Ravelo to the #Athletics in the Samardzija trade. https://twitter.com/RobertMurrayMLB I can handle that. Now let's see who is coming back and who the 3rd player is going there (since we know the 4th).
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) How the hell am I supposed to work??? Exactly, everyone gets a B in my courses. I can't concentrate on actually grading.
  22. X-rays of each will be required before the transaction is complete.
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:19 AM) We got Samardzija and Billy Koch. 2005 version of Cotts please.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:14 AM) Susan Slusser ‏@susanslusser 14s15 seconds ago The #Athletics are actually getting four players in the Samardzija deal I hear. And #WhiteSox getting two. Susan Slusser ‏@susanslusser 22s23 seconds ago I don't think second player going to #WhiteSox is on #Athletics big league roster. Susan Slusser ‏@susanslusser 21s21 seconds ago It sounds as if Samardzija deal could be announced in next 20-20 minutes. #Athletics #WhiteSox The deal is starting to look worser and worser because it's curiouser and curiouser.
  25. Unfortunately, for you, you are in the minority and the Sox are moving ahead
