    QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 08:33 AM) Let's Push Things Forward - The Streets Looking Forward - CSN&Y - Looking Forward
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 08:26 AM) We're kinda new here Great music title thread in SL&M It's the off season. We need something to entertain ourselves with during the cold winter months. And yes, I know you're in Texas so don't even go there.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 07:04 AM) Hmm, now that Buzzy has resigned, what are the chances that Cookie decides it's alright to un-recuse himself from all things Blackwater? And what normal adult male uses the nickname Cookie anyway? There was a famous World Series catch made by Cookie (something Italian ... and long) Longettivo? or something? ... against Joe Dimaggio.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 07:52 AM) I was reading in order and thought that was the last post, I didn't see the rest of the thread until after I posted. I thought I deleted it before anyone saw it. Sorry. No problem. It's happened to me too.

Let's try this and see if it clicks. I'm going to give a song title at the end of this post. I want the next person to pick a key word in that title and post another song title containing the same word. For example: The Ballad of the Green Beret The Green Green Grass of Home Now the key word here is "Green", not "The" Let's away from the, and, of, etc. Also, in order to make it bit more challenging and to increase everyone's chances of answering a music question while playing Trivial Pursuit, I ask that we include artist and album title when you post your song. Greatest Hits or compilation albums are accepted, just as long as the song can be found on the album. So, let's start with ... The Needle and the Damage Done - Neil Young - Harvest
  7. Everybody knows that the good guys lost Beaten by the Queen of Hearts every time. Don't you draw the Queen of Diamonds, she'll break you every time. You know you know the Deuce is still wild. Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night. And I've got such a long way to go, to make it to the border of Mexico Like a bat out of hell I'll be gone when the morning comes Come spend the night inside my sugar walls And the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls. I've built walls, a fortress deep and mighty. Yet I swear I see my reflection some place so high above this wall. Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon Gonna get high as a kite by then She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie, cocaine Sittin' downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line There's a guy with a ticket to Mexico. No, he couldn't look much stranger. I don't want a pickle. I just want to ride my motor-sicle. I like smoke and lightning...Heavy metal thunder. Fat-Bottom Girls you make the rockin' world go 'round. Get on 'yer bikes and ride! Ride, take a free ride, take my place. Have my seat, its for free. Oh, anything I want he gives it to me. Anything I want he gives it, but not for free – It's hateful! You got to get it up, get it up. You got to get it up, get it up, yeah you got to give it to me. Rock me baby, rock me baby all night long. Rock me gently, rock me slowly, take it easy, don't you know that I have never been loved like this before. So do that to me one more time. Once is never enough.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) Btw, was I the only one who found some measure of poetic justice in the fact that ARod's resigning yesterday was upstaged by a bigger event in a funny reminder of how ARod managed to go about trying to upstage the Red Sox in the 8th inning of game 4? Sometimes karma isn't instant, but it usually doesn't take long.
  9. One point I'd like to inject into this discussion, is that TPTB in baseball knew this crap was going on and and did nothing about it ... and that includes Don Fehr as well as Bud Selig. When Harry Truman said "The buck stops here", he slapped the top of his desk. When Bud Selig said it, he slapped his wallet. Okay, it's technically not true but the point is made.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) Diamond is only metastable at atmospheric pressure. Put enough heat in and your diamond goes back to coal! Then you don't have to worry about an energy shortage. What's your point?
  11. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:55 PM) Not completely. The dems voted for this war. Don't let them off the hook so easy. And yes, they would have mismanaged this war just as bad as Bush did. Nation building and being "world police" is a bad idea, and the Iraq war is an excellent example While your mention of the Dems that voted for the war was indeed a good point, it's not nearly as good of point as your nation building and world police remark. That is something we need to take notice of, remember and ... well ... carve in stone.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Agreed. I think it ends up hurting her politically. And that would make me happy. It's like a court of law, once a ceratin aspect is testified to by a witness, you have the right to question that witness ... especially the defendant, which seems to relate here in a way ... about whe was testified to. She brought it up. Now it's fair game. I have no sympathy that someone asked her a sexist question after she threw her sex into the equation.
  13. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) Edwards gets a $400 haircut and everyone goes crazy. Hillary admits she wants BOTH pearls and diamonds and no one blinks an eye. hmmm..... Pearls and diamonds last. Haircuts just get shaggy in a few weeks.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) We shouldn't fund campaigns in other countries based on trade policies. We have done this privately and publicly. The US meddles in foreign campaigns more than any other country, mostly because we have the resources to. Earlier someone criticized a US candidate for not knowing about health care in Cuba and his opinion. We'll ask our leaders how will the elections in XYZ country effect relationships between them and the US, which candidate is pro-US, etc. Yet when it is in reverse, that a foreign leader is asked about US elections, which will effect the entire world, the foreign leader should not have an opinion? That's entirely correct. The foriegn leader shouldn't tell us how to run our country and we shouldn't get involved in other nation's internal affairs. In fact, I am becomeing more and more isolationist as time goes on.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) Diamonds or pearls was a sexist question. Damn, Tex ... I did already admit to fact the I misread his remarks. I thought he was saying that I said something sexist and owned up to the fact that I screwed up. What more do you want?
  16. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 01:30 PM) I'd actually suggest that softball had some razor blades sticking out of it. Like I said, I think, ultimately, this picture being painted lately about her lady-ness is not going to help her. And I think that negative result will be among female voters, who want to see her be a candidate, not talking about diamonds versus pearls. Then she shouldn't have hid behind the gender card last week. She did, now she has to deal with it. We'll see how well she does.
  17. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) I'm not arguing whether they should or not. I'm only talking about what they actually are doing. And I've seen nothing to suggest that Bonds is being targeted because he's visible. They're going after someone nobody remembers (Thomas) and a well-liked Olympic star (Jones). It looks like they're going after anyone who gives them a good case. All I am saying is that by going after Bonds, they have an opportunity ... one that should be taken, btw ... to send a message across the board that this will not be accepted. That fact that are also going after the Thomas' reinforces that message. They are actually sending the strongest message possible by going after big and small fish. I agree, they are going after anyone who gives them a good case ... as they should do.
  18. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:59 PM) The fact that CNN is forcing questions, and worse, forcing insultingly vapid ones, is what made me angry. From another point of view, they threw her a get me over fastball, too. Consider that possibility as well. But, yes, I totally mistook where you were coming from.
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) Buh? I was saying that CNN forcing that question was sexist - not that you were. What did you say that would be sexist? I see it now, thank you. You saying that my response made you angry, and then following up with the sexist comment put me on the defensive to the point that I really didn't comprehend the crux of your text. My bad, NSS.
  20. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Exactly. BOTH parties have ulterior motives... it's called how to maintain power. As an example, if this field of presidential candidates doesn't scare you about the politics of today, you're just plain ignorant of what this country faces. A GOOD third party candidate would win in a landslide, but the laws that exist are so difficult to overcome. The source of the laws? Both Dems and Re-pubes who all but guarantee that they keep themselves in power. Bingo. They have made it nearly impossible for a 3rd party candidate to have a chance. Sadly, that is Ross Perot's legacy.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:49 PM) Yup. Which, I think, is one of the reasons why she isn't looking so hot in the polls lately. The victim look doesn't seem to play well. Again, asking her questions that frame her as "the woman" in the race isn't going to help her. Still waiting for my sexist comment to be pointed out.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:46 PM) Seriously. That just makes me angry. And it serves no purpose, either. Its not like that question makes Clinton look good - its sexist and makes her look like something other than a real candidate. so who does that question serve? No one. What a crock of s***. But didn't Mrs. Clinton herself play the gender card last week when the all those mean men gave her a hard time? Edit to add: And please point out to me exactly what I said that was sexist.

QUOTE(NUKE @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:44 PM) One way to stop drug smuggling quickly is to simply execute anyone caught smuggling narcotics on the spot. If they know they will be killed for their trouble if caught they will abandon their efforts in a big hurry. Even I believe that's a bit ... ummmm ... harsh.
  24. Wow, between questions planted by the candidates and question planted by the Clinton News Network, what's the point of having these debates?
  25. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) Which is why I always protested the CIA getting involved in elections around the world. Or we would press foreign countries for more favorable trade policies. Yes. the CIA should stay out of that crap too. As far as trade goes, isn't that just financial dealings? We shouldn't negotiate on a financial basis with other nations?
