  1. QUOTE(NUKE @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) Thanks No sir. Thank you!
  2. That was so good it was worth posting twice.
  3. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) Then why go after Tammy Thomas? Do you know of anyone they are not charging, who said he/she didn't take steroids, against whom they seem to have good evidence? Read my post, number 69 in this thread. Should they just go after the BIG NAMES? No, but it still sends a message that reverberates through the sports community when they can catch a big fish.
  4. Hey Nuke. Glad to hear you are safe and still fiesty. I just wanted to say that I am behind you guys 100%. No ifs ands or buts about it. However, I also have to point out that I believe GWB is setting us up to become a socialist state. The crap coming from the government, I don't believe at all. They have ulterior motives that are not beneficial to the USA or it's citizens. At same damn time, I wish the MSS would just tell the truth about everything and stop filtering things to enhance their political agenda. I guess what I'm really saying is you cannot believe anything that either side has to say. It's all totally 100% bulls***. God Bless you and your buddies and hope you all come home safe and well.
  5. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:03 PM) "Give us exactly what we want, or we'll label you as traitors and cowards." Agree with you and NSS totally.
  6. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) I never said I was referring to something Steff said. But there are multiple posts within the thread that make it sound like the feds 'are out to get Bonds', or that he's being charged just because of visibility. Those are what I am referring to. As i said, my apologies are extended. However, I do believe that his visibility is part of the equation.
  7. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Could anyone explain for me how/when/why the problems with Borass actually began? I'm not really familiar, i just know their relationship with him now. Thanks From what I recall, Boras used the Sox as a patsy in some way, shape or form during the ARod negotiations when he signed with Texas. Add to that the Weaver and ... damn, getting old sucks, I can't think of the other draftee's name ... situations and it's been an almost non-existant relationship.
  8. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) Next time the Cubs get an original idea will be the first- Well, to be totally honest, the ivy and the BWF thing came about when Veeck was employed by the Cubs. His, if i remember correctly, was president of the Cubs or something like that, at the time.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Update... Funding bill blocked in the Senate, fails 53-45. GOP proposed a funding bill with no strings, and it failed by the exact same vote count. So the showdown continues. Reid says no funding without the promise of troop pullouts. GOP says give them a blank check. Dems will say the GOP just loves war, wants to keep fighting even though 70% of the country is against it. GOP will say the Dems don't support the troops and are cowards. How far will it go this time? Just like it's gone every other time. When the people start calling the Dems in congress and tell them to give the troops what they need, they'll cave.
  10. Dispatch from Iraq: Come Home
  11. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:33 AM) Can't do it. Everyone who testified was given immunity, except (of course) against perjury/obstruction. And Congress, not the federal prosecutors looking into BALCO, would have to decide to investigate Palmeiro, McGwire, etc. That would be fine, but the fact that they don't want to get involved does NOT mean that the BALCO investigation is a let's-get-Bonds witchhunt. They've gone after Marion Jones, Tammy Thomas, and Barry Bonds. Seeing some grand conspiracy in all this is pretty silly. I ceratinly don't think she implied she was seeing some conspiracy. She was saying that the race card would be played, as it always seems to be. Steff said nothing that could be considered silly. If I am misreading you, I apologize.
  12. QUOTE(StatManDu @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:28 AM) THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: NOVEMBER 16TH For more, see www.whitesoxalmanac.com 1981: After 11 seasons behind the microphone for the White Sox, the wildly popular Harry Caray jumped to the Cubs to become their voice. Caray feared that the Sox move to cable would limit his exposure so he jumped at the chance to succeed the retiring Jack Brickhouse as the Cubs’ front man following the 1981 campaign. Already a star in Chicago, the move to the Cubs would make Caray a legend and cement his spot in the Hall of Fame. His time with the Sox was memorable. He often was the only reason fans tuned into Sox games in some years. I find it ironic that two of the 'traditional' things that Cub fans hold so dear, were initiated by two time Sox owner Bill Veeck ... The ivy in Wrigley and the Take Me Out To The Ballgame thing. Hell, as an afterthought, the phrase "Beautiful Wrigely Field" was coined by Veeck.
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) I completely agree with you. I just wish they had made more of an effort to go after others. Especially others who have tested positive as of late. Raffy would have been a good start. I think they'll go after those that they believe they have a good chance of convicting. I'm no lawyer, but they probably can't convict on use ... just possesion, attempting to or purchasing, or in Bonds' case perjury.

    Pet peeves....

QUOTE(J-MAN @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) ALL TIME PET PEEVE! People at Sox games who can't wait till the half inning is over to go take a leak! And then walk back down when Thome is batting with bases loaded or some other game turning moment! Keep in mind, before you critcize, that sometimes people have medical issues that dictate it is time to go NOW.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:54 AM) But they don't have a lynch mob after them at this point... Baseball and the G'ment needs to address ALL steriod users, and quickly. IMO, way too much attention has been placed on Bonds, and it's fairly obvious to see that it's because of his "attitude". His attitude? Yes, definitely. But, if you are the prosecuter and you wanted to send a LOUD message about steroid use, wouldn't the all time home run king be the perfect foil for that? That would be a message that would be heard from MLB to high school kids. And really, the high school kids are the one that need to hear that message the most.
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) This I hope as well. Also, and I hope I am wrong, but sadly I give it a very small amount of time before this becomes a "you are picking on the black man" thing.... Agreed again. I don't think the "picking on a black man" will get any traction, however. There are too many whites and hispanics in baseball using that will make that a moot point.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) I would agree with that as I have heard it said. Did you believe that? Your initial comment is a bit evasive. I am a Bonds fan, but there was no doubt to me that he rub-a-dub dubbed that cream all over as much as he could in a deceptive manner. Agreed. In my opinion, he knew. He had to know. Too much happens to body for him not to have known.
  18. I'm not thrilled we resigned Juan Uribe Can we find another shortstop on Ebay?
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) Game if Shadows is not based on a leak. They refrence the actual testimony seen with their own eyes from Bond's mouth regarding the positive test in Nov 2000. Tit for tat, but just because the Government didn't write GoS doesn't mean the "leak" wasn't fact at the time is was published. If somehow this indictment gives justification to the masses that "finally Barry DID do steriods"... that's odd to me. The "facts" have been all over the place. That is not the dispute. The dispute is if he KNOWINGLY knew he was using. And I'm not sure I understand your statement above, but GJ testimony is a legal proceeding kept on record in our justice system. OK, Steff. I yeild. My original point was that we wouldn't have to hear from anybody that there was never any real proof that Bonds had ever tested positive for steroids. Technically, you are 100% correct. Realistically, that proof was not accepted as proof by the Barryites.
  20. QUOTE(mreye @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) And you like his tight butt, too. You must've been looking too.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:09 AM) It was leaked in 2003 when Fainaru-Wada and Williams began their investigation for Game of Shadows. Let me rephrase. It now not based on a leak. It is now public record as a result of a legal matter and on the record in our justice system.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Not a trite question at all, its a fair one. I don't think I know it nearly as well as people on the ground there. Or people who live there. I take my information from them more than I do our government though. So I like to think, at the least, I'm informed. The candidates in the debate, frankly, seemed to be varying degrees of uninformed. I, as well, try to stay informed. But, you get into the issue of who and what to believe. I tend to listen to guys and gals that come back from Iraq. They seem to get a reasonable amount of radio interviews in my neck of the woods. They generally paint a complete different picture than the MSM paints, which imho gives some credence to what the government says. That said, I don't trust them bastards either. BTW, nice response.
  23. QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) Exactly. Perfect guy for the Sox right now. Richar can learn a lot from him. He can bat 1st or 2nd. He's OBP is pretty good. He can fill in adequately defensively at SS, 3b, 2b and the OF. He could also put some pressure on Uribe for playing time and maybe force him to do some things differently. He's a real pro and has playoff experience and he could probably be had at a reasonable price. He's a great utility guy or fallback option in case Richar or Uribe suck this year. I would like to see the Sox pull the trigger before some other team does. The more I consider this idea, the more I like it.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) What's the big deal about a positive test? Its been known for years "the cream" was a steroid. Bonds has never said he didn't use the cream. The issue is whether Bonds knew what it was or not. He claims he didn't know. Maybe his trainer sings, but if they put him on the stand, Bonds' attorneys will shread him. It would seem Bonds wasn't all that truthful with the grand jury, but I really don't know how it will be proven unless they suddenly came up with some new evidence. I don't like Bonds, but its pretty plain to see the feds are out to get him. Couldn't the resources being used for all this be better spent? The big deal is that now it is fact. It's not been leaked. It is on public record in a legal matter. He tested positive for performance enchancing drugs and that fact can no longer be denied.

    The Wall

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 07:28 AM) What's the difference? How go you construct a fence that only stops people one way? Do not forget to stop tourists and students from coming here as well. Tourists get passports. Students get visas. The fences that stop people only one way have something called a checkpoint that lets legal people pass through and keeps illegal people from doing so.
