QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) I would say fans tend to think their own players, the ones they see every day and are able to scrutinize closely, are "overrated." Most players from other teams who they do not see every day are "underrated." I think this is a very insightful post.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) If the Dodgers get ARod, I think Furcal will be practically given away as the Dodgers would be looking to unload some salary. I've read somewhere that it is highly unlikely the Dodgers are going to be in the ARod sweepstakes.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) Did Pat open for Willie? It was a concert with several performers. One of those all day things. We showed up when Pat was playing, just before Willie.

I'm not a big fan of Pat Green though I do appreciate his talent. I was just kinda "Oh Well" about Green. But Willie ... well I thoroughly enjoy kicking back and just chillin' while Willie did his stuff. Outdoor venue on a beautiful night. Couldn't ask for a more enjoyable evening.

I'm listening to Eric Clapton doing Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright". OMG it's kicking my ass. Album: Bob Dylan: The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 10:26 PM) The games may be meaningless to the team's success, but they are far from meaningless for Owens. This isn't some veteran going through the motions for a horrible team like Konerko. This is a rookie playing for a job something that, IMO, is more intense than fighting for your team and a spot in the playoffs. Crisp had a down year? He's been "down" for awhile then. The rookie happens to be facing some veterans going through the motions. That's why Sept. success can be so misleading.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) I figured he meant himself. Or YASNY. He didn't mean me. That's for damn sure. LOL

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 02:36 PM) You're delusional. I'm still waiting for you to back any of this up. How is he mediocre? HIS HUGE CONTRACT SEASON WAS NOT THAT MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT HE HAS DONE IN YEARS PAST. You act like he's been a .750 OPS player for every year of his career until last year when he shot up to .950. Last year was the 4th .800+ OPS season of his career and only 13 OPS points better than his 2006 numbers hell even 2005 was .789. THAT'S NOT MEDIOCRE. You can keep saying that he's slowed down in the OF but the Cell is one of the smallest centerfields in the league and he's still going to make all the plays. He's 32 years old, you act like he's 38. Wait. For some reason I thought Hunter was 35. If he's 32, that's a whole different scenario. Oops. Never mind. This is furcal your talking about. I need to hit the sack. s***. You are talking about Hunter. Give me another beer and I'll sleep well. lol

CWSguy and IlliniKrush ... I totally understand your optimism. There hasn't been a lot to be optimistic about about in the last decade or so. I also understand the fact that Rocky is not Bill and he HAS made an impression on me. Still, after 10 years of crap, I'm not going to say that things are finally turning around for the Hawks. I need to see more than a month of hockey to erase a decade of incompetance. The most hopeful sign to me is that they got Pulford out of the operation. But still, it remains to be seen if things are actually changing for the better or if this is just another mirage.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Thanks for the amazing input. I love the people that tune into a thread just to add absolutely nothing to it. Well done. Considering that the Hawks have sold out the once upon a time 'remember the roar' type of fan, I think I added a very legitimate point of view to the thread. I remember when you couldn't get tickets to see the Hawks. This team has SUCKED for a decade. Maybe Kane and Toews are next coming of Hull and Mikita. I hope so. However, the late great Dollar Bill screwed over many a Hawks fan for many years. Maybe things are changing now, we'll see. I can't seem to see through the rose colored glasses because they have been stomped on and ground into the dirt for so long.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:37 PM) I think she'd be an adequate President. I'm just sick of merely adequate people. The best person that could win, isn't running IMO. Ok, I'll take the bait. Who would that be?
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) First poll numbers are showing a Hillary bump, post-debate. But there's definitely new life and momentum from the opposition. In an earlier post you said she looked 'bad, distant and aloof'. That pretty much sums my opinion of Mrs. Clinton.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:20 PM) I'm interested in everyone thoughts, and this is a question that I expect may generate some discussion: You have a gun pointed to your head and you're forced to keep just one of Toews and Kane. After sobbing mercilessly for 24 hours, you choose...? I'm going to have to think about it myself for a bit before I answer. Wait. We are talking about the Blackhawks here. The same team that has been an embarrasment to the city for a decade. I'd flip a coin and walk away.

QUOTE(Nokona @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) I seem to have forgotten when he got caught using steroids... That was when he said he 'thought' he was using flax seed oil.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 01:06 PM) Not for Betemit and the stiffs mentioned in the thread, you don't. I get it ... Crede is on the Sox so he's no good. We should trade him for anybody on the Yankees. Give me a break. The guy is a fantastic defensive player and nobody on here has yet to back me up on that. Amazing. Yeah Betemit is better than Crede. By all means bring in Betemit. I'll back you on that. Brooks Robinson was exceptionally great with the glove. But, I'll go with 'fantastic defensive player' when talking about Joe Crede.

Barry won't be there? s***. I'm heartbroken.

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Right now, I'll live with an OF of Fields, Owens, Dye, if Crede is at 3rd base and actually healthy. We've got a small, non-difficult OF, that won't be the thing that kills us, esp. with the way our pitchers tend to produce ground balls. I'm far more interested in that IF defense, which would look like Crede, Fields, Richar, Konerko, which to me looks really good. But of course, if a deal where Mr. Crede goes somewhere and actually nets us something is available, we have to take it since he'd be walking next year no matter what, and then we do need 1 more OF. If we do hold onto Crede, I think it's going to be just as easy to find a LF next offseason as this one. Are you saying play Fields at SS? -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 06:47 AM) Scientists have been wrong before. Remember how healthful a cigarette was? Aided digestion and relaxed you. How about the recommendation that we eat lots of red meat to be healthy? I'll bet if they went back in the 70s and looked at all the computer data, you would see they were lying. And 30 years from now, we'll probably be able to say the same thing about global warming. Well, not we in the sense of me and you Texsox.

QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) This is such a gray area. I work in Law Enforcement (you could probably guess exactly what) and I've taken complaints on this kind of thing, but it's always a civil issue. I have heard much worse than this and it has gone to civil courts and dismissed. So as far as "Mary" taking action...it wouldn't even be worth trying. If it has made her as uncomfortable as she claims (rightfully so if that's the case) then she should just find a new job. It's sad and perhaps unfair advice, but it is what it is. Her boss is a creep IMO for commenting on her body no matter how casual he said it. Being made to feel uncomfortable due to sexual undercurrents in the work place. That sounds like the definition of sexual harassment to me. And with her turning down a VP, then it is followed immediately by comments about appropriate attire which apparently never was mentioned previously, she's got the foundation of a case there. Keeping that journal and a daily digital picture should put her in good shape.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) I agree with both of you. It may come down to what we want to turn over to our great great great great grandchildren. What legacy do we want history to show for us? That beginning in the 1960s we turned the tide on pollution and set civilization on a path to protect and preserve the planet, or we ignored the early and primitive findings of our scientists? Personally, I think we did a wonderful job of staving off the coming ice age back in the '70's.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) This happens with almost every candidate out there. That may, just may, be the problem.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) One key factor that is missing is how they want her to dress. "Professional" is what I read. I assume that the President didn't say wear something that shows off that great body. This is very subtle harassment, almost reverse of the stereotypical behavior that Neanderthal bosses displayed in the dark ages. Would anyone's opinion of harassment change if the President said he just wanted her to dress more conservatively? I agree with Steff in what steps she should take, but we may find at the end of the rainbow, it is a poor attempt at helping her. From the original post in this thread... Apparently, she has been dressing in a professional manner.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) This kid is going to make some other team's fans very happy. I agree. He has been jerked around here. You may be 100% correct about this, but in the mean time he has been acting like the spoiled brat pampered athlete that seems to be so prevelant in the NBA. Now, if he sincerely got over his pity party and then just got injured at an inopportune time then maybe he's grown up. BA has to show me something before I believe he's more than a self annointed prima donna.
