  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 01:00 PM) Balta, I don't think anyone here other than you and I seem to think Owens can be a successful major league leadoff hitter. I think he's likely to be .340-.350 OBP with 50+ SB at an 80%+ success rate if given the chance. But I'm in the minority. I'm not one of those guys that writes a rookie off after 5 ABs and I certainly haven't written off Owens. Can he be a successful big leaguer? I don't know. But I'm not saying he can't be, yet.

  5. QUOTE(Rooftop Shots @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Need some ideas on where I can locate a poster size (16 X 20) or (18 X 24) of a night view picture of the Cell taken from behind home plate as well as the same for Old Comiskey. An example what I am looking for is pasted below. I once saw one of the opening game world series, with the amereican flag, but once again, it was not available is poster size. Benn coming up dry for quite a while now. I'm looking for unframed ones. Anyone have any ideas? Links? Thanks! Rooftop, you say it's not available in poster size. Can you get in an 8x10? If so, you can have it enlarged into poster size.
  6. QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) we still might be able to keep Hernandez as he might go undrafted due to the fact that there could be a lack of teams actually thinking he is ready for the bigs. If that happens, then nobody here will want him: "He was passed on by 30 ML teams. What's he still doing here?"
  7. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 11:11 AM) I think Sox management believe MacDougal still has potential. But, we seem to have some AAA and AA players that could push him so anything is possible as far as trades. I like giving our own talent a chance to show the Sox what they have to contribute. I agree with the bolded above. But if he's the key player in a deal for Bay, I'm all over that.
  8. QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 27, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) I think the Cubs wouldn't deal him to the Sox for exactly that reason. From that standpoint, I think it's probably in their best interest to hang onto him for 3 mil this year and see what happens. What's another 3 mil considering all the money they've wasted on him already? I'd think it would be worse for them to trade him and see him succeed somewhere else than to gamble the 3 mil and have him be the same old story for them again. I think you have summed up exactly what's going to happen. The Cubs are willing to pay him for two years if he'll forego free agency for a year. They'll be willing to pay him for one year.
  9. Keep in mind that Bobby still has that hardware in his arm. I'd listen to what the Yanks have to say.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) I think Armstrong was protected because of his years in - looks like he might have become a free agent otherwise. 4.5 years in service, minor leagues, by my count. Lucas Harrell, though, looks like he has only 3 years in, then was out injured in 07. So I am not sure why he needs to be protected. Pods DFA, Egbert on 40 = good news. WHY THE f*** IS BOURGEOIS NOT ON THE 40?!?! Bourgeois signed a minor league contract with us, so he's still in the mix.
  11. Thanks for 2005 Pods. The walk off was sweet. Best wishes.

  13. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) Fred Thompson is more of an empty suit than anyone else out there right now IMO. Media age or not, I think he's pretty disconnected from a lot. It's not that he acts like its still 1980, I sometimes think he thinks its still 1980. We could use some 1960 right now. But that just gets you a bullet in head.
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) I'm actually OK with that. Although I don't think what Clinton did was removable. But I can understand the need to fully investigate and prosecute any legitimate violation of the power of the office. I think that the Bush administration should definitely be fully investigated for a number of things. These investigations by Congress have been sadly not coming along nearly as quickly or with as much force as the GOP hacks like to claim, and they haven't been nearly as thorough as I'd personally like them to be. These investigations by Congress are not happening because they think Bush will impose martial law and invalidate the constitution. And I wouldn't put it past the Son of a b****. In fact, I'm not sure this presidential campaign will amount to a hill of beans, and if someone else does in fact move into the White House, it'll be more of the same. Regardless of party.
  15. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) I see Fields as a solid LF but not third baseman. You may be right, but with Crede apparently on the way out and Field's athleticism, he's worth the gamble at third. Good thirdbasemen are hard to come by, and if Field's can improve at the hot corner it's worth going through the growing pains.
  16. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:29 PM) You seem to forget that Clinton was impeached for a lot of the same thing. As he should have been. And, might I add, as Bush should be.
  17. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) I love the way whenever KW makes a s*** trade the consensus is to wait and see what his real master plan is. The master plan was to get a 33 year old light hitting shortstop for a major pitcher in a year not much pitching is available. He got abused on this trade. I think we all know your view of the trade by now.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) No kidding. Knowing KW and Jerry it'll be trash and cash. How did we win a WS in 2005? That is what I want to know? Because we traded Lee for cash and trash.
  19. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) I was just thinking I like Broadway for that role. Throws strikes (mostly), has decent enough stuff. If he develops into a back end of the rotation starter, it will come out of his long man experience in the bigs. IMHO, the Sox don't give their prospects enough chances to succeed, such as by being a long man. Low pressure appearances to learn how to get guys out. Very few on here want the Sox to give prospects a chance to succeed. They always suck and every other team's prospects are the s***. Well we've a few succeed here and some not so much. For example, Crede turned into a very solid ML 3B. Aaron Rowand is now a GG CF and a top notch FA 'get' this year. Jon Garland just got us a GG SS after being a very solid, not great but solid, starting pitcher the last few years. Mark Buehrle turned out okay too. It takes time for these youngsters to develope into quality major leaguers. Yet I distinctly rememeber that Crede sucked, Rowand would be nothing more than a 4th outfielder and someone was called Judy. Sometimes they pan out and sometimes they don't (see Borchard), but you have to put them out there and see if they can. Owens and Richar are being raked over the coals this offseason because they weren't great as rookies. Well, they may never be great, but dammit you have to play them and find out what they are. End rant.
