What happened to our offense?

QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) Not that it matters now, but I thought Abreu's foot went to the side of the bag and he only got it with his hand. Pauly's foot beat Abreu's hand... It did not beat Abreu to the side of the bag... but I don't think Abreu got it... I could be wrong, but he looked out He was out.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) It was close. Cooper probably was focused on PK's foot, and once he saw he was off the bad, he probably assumed Abreu had touched the base. assumption is the mother of all f*** ups
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:56 PM) You sure? It looked like PK never got to the bag. GREAT PITCH! It looked like Abrue's hand was going to the bagt, but PK's foot blocked it. Then PK hit the bag before Abrue tagged it.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Classy He was safe. PK was off the bag. PK's foot blocked Abreu's hand from getting to the bag. He was out.

Dye is so f***ing slow.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) ahh that was questionable True. But with two strikes you gotta fight that one off.

Hell yes!!!! The Yankees have not taken advantage of our mistakes and we jump up when they make 'em.

Wet ball?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) 45 through 2. Yikes. The defense has given the Yanks two extra outs in two innings. Add to that the fact that Javy had to get K's to get out of the innings without runs scoring, that'll increase the pitch count quickly. Javy's done a great job pitching around the shoddy defense.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) With all due respect, any point-counterpoint on a subject this complex, in this type of forum, would be a mile wide and an inch deep. This is far to complex a subject to do anything beyond skimming. America is a far more violent society than a generation or two ago. Our kids see way more real violence, with real actors, than before. They see violence "solving" problems daily on TV. When they can not solve a problem though other means, they go with what they learned. Possibly not specific to Columbine, but I believe YASNY is correct, but not allowing kids to suffer small defeats and make mistakes, they are unprepared for the bigger problems that will happen in life. Exactly! Columbine was an easily identifiable reference to emphasize the point. But, the retort I blew off went directly away from the generality of the point and tried to direct it toward an apparent attempt by me to pinpoint the point. I made my point and didn't feel like getting into a discussion where I had to attempt to redirect the conversation back toward my intent. Therefore, I said f*** it and left the forum.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) I don't think it took long because of not knowing the potential problems, but in conditioning the public to accept these restrictions. I see the clear plastic bag as the next step. If we went from almost no restrictions to barefoot in airport issued pjs with three items in a plastic bag, there would have been some blow back. Do it gradually and we'll accept it. After all, if riding half naked on the plane saves one life and stops the terrorists from taking over our lives . . . Hey. It should help expand the mile high club.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:29 AM) Pretending that there is a simple explantion for not just Columbine, but for any of those school disasters we've seen is just silly. You cannot just change one thing and prevent the psychopath who initiated that mess from showing up. It's almost as productive as blaming the whole thing on Marilyn Manson or the NRA. Whatever.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Like the military, don't ask, don't tell. Very Nice!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) May I make a plug for Scouting? The program builds on learning moments and allows kids to fail along the way. But out of site of screaming parents (Little League). No way. They are too homophobic.

I find it ironic that the term 'semitic' is used to apply to the Jews. In fact, both the Arabs and the Jews are 'semetic' peoples. Semetic refers to decendants of Noah's son Shem. The Jews (through Isaac) and the Arabs (through Ishmael) both derive from Abraham. Isaac and Ishmael are both sons of Abraham with different mothers. Which, by the way, is the reason this conflict is still going on 5000 years later.

Allowing kids to experience the little disappointments as they grow up prepares them to deal with the bigger disappointments life will surely throw in their paths. We wonder why kids go 'Columbine' on us. It's because they weren't taught how to deal with things as they were growing up.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) Great. My trip on Sunday should be a blast. Don't complain too much ...

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) I don't see any problem with wearing like a hat or a shirt of your favorite team while at another team's game. As long as you're not jackass enough to cheer against a team. Sorry, but I've gone to a Sox-Rangers game in Arlington wearing Sox gear and cheering for the Sox. As long as you aren't a jerk about it, there should be no problem. Basically, I paid for my ticket and have every right to root for whoever I want to. In mean time, I had some great baseball conversations with some knowledgeable Ranger fans. No problems whatsoever.

QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) JD has just been unbelievable . I remember last year there were so many Dye bashers when he got off to the bad start, calling him "Dead." There is always so much negativty and player bashing that it keeps me from posting all that often. If it wasn't Dye it was Crede (Cruddy), Garland (Judy), Cotts, Thornton etc. and so many more. I also realize that without criticism there would ,effectively, be nothing to talk about. As a long time Sox fan I've learned to just enjoy watching my favorite team and know that there are players who are better than others and bashing them won't make them any better. One of my favorite players as a kid was CF Ken Berry and he couldn't hit a lick. But I'll always remember a highlight channel 32 used to run in a commercial with Ken Berry jumping up to attempt a catch on a ball over the centerfield fence. He actually jumped up and over the centerfield fence like a fosberry flop when doing a high jump. Still don't know if he caught it and would love to see it again. But if the effort's there a player ranks high in my book no matter what the results. I remember that play like it was yesterday. Bobby Knopp of the Angels hit it. Berry went over the fence, hit his head on the bottom of the fence and was knocked out., The ball rolled out of his glove. The umpire ran out to the fence, looked over it and signalled HR. Berry was a great defensive CF.

ST Poll: Who's the most clutch player on the Sox?
YASNY replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Gotta be Crede -
QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Sadly, I believe we will see a nuclear weapon dropped/detonated as an act of war in our lifetime. Even more sad, it will in all likelyhood again be the United States doing the dropping/detonating. I believe the US will, in all likelyhood, be the recipient.
