Sheriff Joe's Round them up immigration policy
YASNY replied to BHAMBARONS's topic in The Filibuster
I which every county in the USA had a sheriff like this guy. Jail time is not supposed to be a pleasant experience. -
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Rob Mackowiak, Jim Thome, Brian N. Anderson have combined for 42 HR, 121 RBI. Carl Everett, Frank Thomas, Aaron Rowand have combined for 43 HR 128 RBI. I don't see the huge gain. Would that be the same Carl Everett that was DFA'd by Seattle?

QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) why not move josh fields to SS? Because he's barely adequate at 3b at this point. You don't move a guy to a more challenging defensive position when he's struggling defensively. That's why moving him to LF seems to be the sensable option.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 07:27 AM) You also have think about the long - term and not only the short - term here. Like YAS said if you move Vaz to the pen, you're stuck with him there for the next few seasons and his confidence will be shattered. And how often would you actually use him out of the pen? Look at how Ozzie uses B-Mac right now. We didn't trade Chris Young just so we would be stuck with a long reliever with a terrible contract. If Vaz is going to be out of this rotation, it'll be at the end of the season as part of a trade to open up a spot for B-Mac. To expand on your remarks and rebut shoota's... Vaz and Contreras are very comparable as they are both pitchers with great 'stuff' and were underperforming. The trade deadline is a weak argument because Cooper has contributed to the mental aspects of the game for Contreras as well as Garland. It takes time to accomplish that, and if the Sox just dump Vazquez without giving him every opportunity, then they gave away Young for nothing.

QUOTE(korntownballa @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:55 AM) i wouldn't even trade gload for crisp. ummmmm ... ok.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Both could be on the roster and get just about the same amount of playing time as Anderson gets right now. I also think it would be pretty easy for Fields to play 1B. He could play LF, 3b,1b. Sweeney could play all 3 OF positions. Mackowiak and Gload, and Pods are all on the hot seat as far as a spot on the White Sox roster next season. I don't see them keeping Sweeney at Charlotte in 2007. Ozzie loves him, and KW called Fields a major league All Star. They will both be in the major leagues next season unless they really drop off or get hurt. I generally agree with your thinking with one thought keeping from outright total agreement. Sweeney is still very young, iirc, and I really think they'd prefer to let him spend another year os so in AAA.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:29 AM) Well I agree to an extent... as in you have to give your bullpen guys a break every so often and position players as well for the most part. But in this specific game... I have no problem with Ozzie wasting the pen considering the heat and type of game it was. Ozzie had no choice but to "waste the pen" with Garland pitching under medication and with a sinus infection. Leaving BMac in there might have 'saved' the pen, but do you let a young pitcher with potential star quality 'take one for the team' or do you battle through today and hope tomorrow's lineup and starting pitcher come through to give the pen an easy day? It's a crap shoot, and Ozzie has to go with the info on hand (I'm not talking stats like BA against while going through the order the time, I'm talking about Ozzie interacting and communicating with his players to get inside their heads so he knows how guys are feeling ... the type of info we don't have and never take into consideration).

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:19 AM) So your saying we should of kept B-Mac in and got toasted and ended up losing this game? You play everygame to win it...We might not even be in position to win this next game so why throw away 1 game to try to win another? Also riske wasnt ever used and Thornton only faced 1 batter so im sure both of them are more than ready to go. No, I'm not saying that as I didn't watch the game. I'm talking in general terms here. Yes, you play every game to win, but you don't cripple your bullpen for a week to win one game ... or for three days. You want your players, not just the pen, to be as close to full strength in Sept. as they are in May. You absolutely cannot just play to win today without considering the long term effects on your team. Any manager that does that will watch his team hit a wall about August 15th and sink like a lead weight through September.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:13 AM) Im in on that. Waste of a post really. Hey Rock. I think I can safely say we get the point.

QUOTE(Thunderin @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) You ALWAYS play to win the game. Tomorrow we will deal with tomorrow. Too many around here think that way. Sometimes you have to take a chance on a loss to keep things lined up for the long haul.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) Because you don't pay around $10M for a guy to be basically a long reliever who's hardly used. Exactly! There is a chance they can still get inside of Javy's head and turn him around ala Contreras. If they put him the pen, they've a $10M long reliever they'd never be able to trade.
-
I think you can expect to see Ozzie ride Javy as long as he can, regardless of his recent history. Even if Javy blows the game away, Ozzie has to perserve his bullpen. Hopefully, the Sox rock Chen and Javy survives for 7 or more innings.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) What I dont understand its ok to "pass the crack pipe" to ask for Buehrle.... but not ok when we offer Pods and a prospect. If you ask me which of the 2 are most likely to happen Id say the 2nd one 100%. My post said basically the same thing.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) He's sitting "no," there is no reason not to propose this deal even if the chance of the White Sox accepting it is slim and none. So there is no reason for the White Sox not to counter offer Ross Gload for Crisp.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 07:32 AM) Where'd you hear this, because it would be music to all of us here if that was indeed the case. I believe Crede was talking in more general terms. I don't remember the exact quote, but it probably can be interpretted like Bob said. I didn't take it quite so cut and dried, though.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:37 AM) True, but for the opposition it's pick your poison. I'd much rather have Thome vs. Lefty or Konerko vs. Righty with a RISP than a runner on first and a favorible hitting match-up. Not only that, the manager can still use his pen and play the match-up regardless of whether the runner swipes a bag or not. Sure you'd like to have all the numbers in your favor, but guys like Thome, Konerko and Dye should be able to hit "specialists". I opt to put the pressure on. Take the 9th inning of last nights game ... Runners on 1B and 2B with no outs. The Sox have 3 outs left and are down by 2. Iguchi sac bunts and they walk Thome with GLOAD, not Paulie, on deck. They effectively to the bat out of Thome's hands when he has 30+ dingers so Gload could hit with 0 dingers. I wouldn't have used up that out and negated Thome's power just to have two runners advance a base. It did eliminate the DP possibilty, which gave the O's even more incentive to walk Thome which restored DP possibilites. Baseball is a funny game.

QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 04:39 AM) well, the next two games should be EASY wins. and i really think detroits win yesterday was huge. ^ That's the kiss of death.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:17 AM) I LOVE COCO! How could you hate him? It would be my guess that the '01 is susposed to be '10 since '01 was 5 years ago. Either that or Jenks has a very long term contract.

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) Now he is tied with Garland for HR's HIT this season. WAY TO GO ROSS!! Gload pointed out that very fact.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) The question always is, how often do you have to succeed at stealing 2nd in order for the additional RISP to make up for the few throwouts? Because sometimes he will be thrown out before a home run, but IMO, a lot more times, the guy would either distract the pitcher and give Thome/Konerko a better pitch, or would set up an RISP chance for either guy. Sitting back and being passive ain't working. I like putting pressure on a defense to make a perfect throw/play. Yeah, when we're facing a guy throwing out 50% of his runners, we should hold back, but otherwise, I'll give up an out, and even an occasional game, for the additional RISP. Or ... your big bat or hot hitter will be IBB'ed since 1B is open. If a lefty is pitching they go after Thome and walk Konerko and if a righty is on the hill, vice versa. So many calls or non calls that Ozzie makes, he gets ripped for after it doesn't work. Yet, there are good arguments for either decision.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) Tonight = wakeup call. Jon Garland tomorrow = winning streak (I'm really hoping for an 8th inning strikeout of Tejada with men on base by him just to remind everyone of what the White Sox can do). Make this a winning streak boys. You now have the one big hole in April filled; you have an incredible bullpen (which next year will be the best in the big leagues). You have an incredible offense, which will find its balls eventually. Now, we just need the starting pitching to remember what it can do. Garland already has. Contreras never forgot. For the others, it's time. Wake up everyone. Tonight is your Rally Gload night. Run with it. I have difficulty thinking of many teams in baseball right now, or even in the last few years, who can throw a bullpen at other teams like the Sox can throw at teams now. By September, teams will be scared to drive our starters out of the game, because then they'll have to face the pen. Especially if BMac keeps it up. The Reds 'Nasty Boys' bullpen is the last one I can think of. Can only remember two of the three guys in the combo right now though ... Norm Charlton and Rob Dibble.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) Kinda strange to me that you have A LOT more faith in the Tigers this year than you did the Sox last year. You were the only one (and you turned out to be right) that said the division race wasn't over when the Sox were up 15 games in August. The Tigers are up 8 1/2, and you've all but conceded the division to them. Not trying to start anything. I just find that a little strange. No he wasn't the only one saying it wasn't over last year. Just saying.

Tejada is supposed to be a great teammate, in addition to his considerable skills on the diamond. Even though he's been very good, he hasn't been quite the same player since the steroid testing was implemented. His name has come in connection with steroids, by Palmeiro and maybe even Canseco. Not sure about Jose, though. Kenny would have to put in his due diligence on that issue before making a move for him.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) On the Ozuna missed catch: I was sitting out there by the foul pole on and saw the whole damn thing. Pods may have caught it had he had the right read and timing. It was not a very easy looking catch to have made. I didn't question for one second if he should have caught it or not. It simply did not look like an easy catch. People behind me started yelling "Soriano would have made that catch". I was actually a little surprised that Ozuna came under any fire for not making it. I thought it was a hell of an effort. It hasn't been too long since I saw Pods miss a catchable ball that just cleared the fence. He jumped into the fence which kept him from getting up high enough to catch the ball. And, btw, did anybody see Coco Crisp's 'play' the other day on th inside-the-park home run. Sometimes things just don't come together for an outfielder to make that play. That's the way things have been going for the Sox lately.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) I agree with you about the slump thing. Things have just gone SO horribly wrong this month and we have not gotten ONE break, that you almost have to laugh it off and keep moving ahead, knowing that the worm is gonna turn at some point. Of course it will. I don't understand the suicidal panic permeating through Soxtalk these days. A baseball season ebbs and flows. Teams struggle, teams get hot. I believe in this team. We have the talent and the cream will rise to the top.
