QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) If you're saying that I was sitting around and said, "Let's find something to take out so I can jump on YASNY!" then you're wrong. That's not how I operate, and if that's your "long term general observation" you're much mistaken. As far as spin, I contend that I wasn't spinning in response to your post politically. I made a correction to something that was incorrect. There is no political spin in saying "This is about Congress, not the White House." Ha! Okay okay, just making sure. Nope. I could give a rat's ass if you jump on me. I'll deal with that if and when it happens. You were, however, taking a specific incident to attempt to refute a general observation.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) How is it rude? Im hearing people say this left and right. They werent saying this on Sunday. Some visiting Cardinal fans the last 2 days said its "embarrassing" that Ozzie is making the SOX look bad. I told them how did they know that. They said they "heard". I said from where? They said theyve been reading in the papers that the SOX are embarrassing. I told them SOX fans werent embarrassed. Guy next to me agreed. About 5 random SOX Fans behind my row all said the writer writing that was full of BS, Sox fans arent embarrassed. SO how was it rude that I said RedWhite was making a comment mostly because of perception? If RedWhite had a different answer, Im sure he will let me know HIS opinion, we dont need any Armchair Posting going on here. Whats rude is your continued nonsensical trashing of anything I say here. I thought you put me on "ignore". If not, please do so. Thank You. It might be a good idea for both of you to put each other on ignore.

FBI brings the hammer down on terror cell in Miami.
YASNY replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) As far as this case goes, I believe that Nuke's article itself says that they were merely in the beginning stages, and that Gonzales himself has dismissed the imminence of this threat. They should be arrested and charged, to be sure. But let's not declare mission accomplished and act as if we stopped something set to happen tomorrow or even soon. This is the abortion of a young plot, not the disruption of something developed. Hmmm. This kind of sounds to me that our people were right on top of things and nipped it in the bud before the plan had time to germinate. Someone's doing a damn good job. -
Iraq in Miserable State, Ambassador Memo says
YASNY replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) John Kerry did not advocate a withdrawal from Iraq in the 2004 election. John Kerry did not advocate anything in the 2004 election. -

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) Don't dismiss a perfectly valid point not with a rebuttal but with a eye-rolling icon and I won't request that you not be an idiot. Watch yourself. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:46 AM) You are saying that my spin in this thread is by pointing out an inaccuracy upon analysis? Come again -- is that directed at me? I have been critical of the French, but I can't recall me starting a thread about a cleanup in Congress or about someone being screwed for speaking Spanish -- although I did participate in threads of that nature -- and so I'm wondering if you're referring to me, and what exactly you mean. Are you bolstering YASNY's charge that I'm spinning, or am I misreading? I'm saying that I was talking about a long term general observation and you picked up one particular item to spin things your way. What's so difficult to understand? You had to jump in with your political spin. Period. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) That's, uh, why I wasn't replying to your post... Christ, I'm replying to minors. I'm saying that he was selective in picking the stories. you (liberal...sort of) -- French (maybe not positive, but certainly something that many Repubs would hurrah) Rex (liberal) -- cleanup (positive story) juddling (conservative) -- guy getting screwed (negative story) Stop being paranoid, y'all. My apologies, jackie.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Correct. Thanks, Yasny. I'm a diehard Red Sox fan, who watches and goes to White Sox games, following them pretty intensely to the point where my opinions and thoughts have some basis to them. Had my parents not been divorced, and had I not moved to Chicago, I wouldn't be here right now. I bet RockRaines is kicking himself right now that he never got into counceling. Glad you took that in the spirit it was intended. I was afraid that you may take that as a comdemnation. Not that way at all.
-
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) You also have 'liberal' threads assaulting the French record and talking about a cleanup in Congress, and a conservative thread about someone being 'screwed' for not speaking Spanish. Kind of a downer tone there. And GP's point about the minimum wage hike is correct -- it's interesting that you consider that "bad news"... That's the way it was presented in the original post of this thread. I didn't comment on the minimum wage thing in way, shape or form.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) I was pointing out that your statement was analytically inaccurate. Pointing out that the Congress killed a minimum wage increase is about the Congress (specifically, the Senate) and not the Administration. Conservatives, being in power, will gravitate toward each other and help one another maintain power by putting their positive spin in things. Liberals, being out of power, naturally want it back and point out what they consider the flaws in the current Administration. That explains the discrepancy quite well, I think. I was talking about generalities, over a long period of time of Soxtalk political postings. You picked one specific instance in order to enable your spin.
-
QUOTE(peanut33tillman @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:36 AM) Ive never seen a die hard fan equally root 2 teams...guess your the first eh? He doesn't root "equally". He's a Red Sox fan first and foremost.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Well, yes and no. The minimum wage story was about Congress and not the Administration. True enough. You've still got to get your political spin in there, don't you?
-
Funny, but I thought I called it pretty accurately without trying to put a political spin on things.

St. Louis Conspiracy Theory...Sox knew what pitches were coming
YASNY replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:32 AM) ""Let's put it this way," one Cardinals source said Thursday night. "They looked like they knew what was coming the first two nights. They looked like they had no idea tonight. " They also said they changed the signs in game one. So what's up with game two? -
St. Louis Conspiracy Theory...Sox knew what pitches were coming
YASNY replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If this was true, and they figured it out after the 5th inning of game one, why the hell did we score 13 on them in game two? Are they that damn stupid? -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 06:38 AM) Styx played my sister's high school homecoming back when they were just starting out. The only famous musicians I've ever met are Pat DiNizio and Dennis Diken of The Smithereens. Nice enough guys, kinda quiet though. They played my high school homecoming my sophomore year. 1972, I think.

The Liberals try and knock down this administration by posting "bad" news. The Conservatives try and prop up this administration by posting "good" news. It's been that way around here from the beginning.

QUOTE(holly wiggins @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Same here. I've had periods where I didn't buy tickets or Sox stuff because I had big out-trades with the management. I was turned off, as a lot of people were, by the strike in 1994; and I disagreed with other things that Reinsdorf has done. As a fan, I go back to the Alleyn days. Right now I'm a season-ticket holder and I spend money freely at games, on concessions and Sox merchandise. I would stop all that if the club fired Ozzie over this. IMO any firing talk is WAY premature, though; they're more likely, if they do anything (and they've said they won't), to order sensitivity training and announce that he has to watch his mouth. It would be economic suicide to fire this manager at this point in this season, and anybody who's watched Reinsdorf for more than a few months knows that the man is not about economic suicide moves. Besides, Reinsdorf loathes Mariotti as much as Ozzie does and maybe more. :finger You're a season ticket holder? Can we talk?
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) seriously...my loyalties lie with the colors...not the manager. So ... you're a fan of the laundry. That's okay. So am I!
-
QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) thats such a crock of s***...... Torre got one game without the provocation that Ozzie had. WTF?
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) I'm still waiting for Mariotti's sensitivity training and apology to Frank Thomas for inferring that he was a cross-dresser by calling him The Big Skirt.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 08:19 AM) Much as I miss AROW out there in Center I think BA has the potential to develop into every bit the CF Rowand was. I can't make a call on this one at this time. I am a big fan of Aaron Rowand. But I feel BA is going to be a better CF and all around ballplayer.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) You're oversimplifying but let's be honest here: we ALL thought they were gonna choke in September, and that was hardly Mariotti alone that was talking that up in the press. And let's face it, up until 2005 there was no reason to think that the Sox would ever win with Reinsdorf as an owner. Not me, that's for sure. Yes through the years he's of course flip/flopped on the story, just like... fans do. Maybe that's what I like: he writes like a fan. Up and down, love 'em, hate 'em--more about emotion than about Sportscenter analysis. I'll be the first to admit, for instance, that I had my eyes closed until the end of September because I was thinking the unthinkable. I just didn't have the venue to write about it. Actually, I did: and I got banned. Now THAT I can somewhat understand. Though, I still believe Mariotti just looks to stir s*** to see if something stinks.
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Mea culpa. I probably generalized and made it sound like you. Meaning: some were starting to call into questin my Sox love, yada yada. You didn't. I apologize if I made it sound that way. It's all good. Hey, I got my piece out there; people don't agree. It was nagging at me this morning and I had to get it off my chest. What more can ya do? Okay. Fair enough.
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Okay am I the only one floored by how we're shellacking the best (arguably) team in the NL? For all the hype leading up to this, it's like we're playing a AAA club. I would have NEVER guessed this to be the case. Any explanation for this? It's just, well... surreal... Explanation? It's got to be Mariotti.
-
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) I can handle a lot more than that, thanks. "Get real"? I pointed out where Mariotti had some points and your blanket dismissal was simply that he was a piece of crap. Ooookay, so that's your answer. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. You refuse to acknowledge that and I'm the one who needs to "get real"? Okay maybe this is where I get confused because I never took "Blizzard of Oz" to be a put-down. The comment, yes, was uncalled for (and I mean the language not because it's Mariotti) but no it's hardly along the lines of Marge Schott--agreed. As for Jimmy the Greek I think that was total overkill, but that's another (non-relevant) thread. What answer? You said I 'inferred' something about you. Show me where! I simply disagreed with you.
