QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Good argument. I guess the only way we'll know for sure is if Buehrle goes out there today and tosses a gem, causing the rest of the rotation to fall in line and put us on an enormous winning streak. Yep, even I can find some hope. Always have hope.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) But he represents Crede too, and I'm betting his relationship with the SOX has warmed a bit the last few years. If the SOX end up trading Vazquez or Garcia, the SOX have as good a chance as anyone of signing Zito. I cant see him wanting to be in the glaring spotlight of NYC. The only other team I can see making a hard charge would be STL, they love AL players The Cubs will be in the Zito sweepstakes ... or they should be.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) I would say, "as the rotation goes, so go the White Sox." But, that could be said of any team in baseball. When the Sox rotation was just mediocre in the beginning of the year, the team rolled because the offense could cover that up. Ever since the rotation has been bad, the team has struggled because our great offense still isn't enough to mask such terrible pitching. Okay. Here's my thinking on the Buehrle remark. If you recall last year, Mark was pitching quickly and going inside. He was therefore effective. Then it seemed Garland took the same approach and had a great first half. It seemed to cause the rest of the rotation to get the competitive edge with each other, and it steamrolled from there. So Mark started the ball rolling in 2005. The rotation this year has been hit or miss, inconsistant until Buehrle started struggling. Then it seemed like like rest of the rotation took a nose dive, with the exception of Garland, who for some strange reason, started pitching better.

JimH and Hangar ... Let it go already.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:09 AM) Do I detect the color green here? Not at all.

"As Buehrle goes, so goes the White Sox." That's actually quite insightful.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:28 AM) As Jason already said, Mackowiak is actually a pretty good corner OFer. Now about Dye being above average, I'm not so sure about that anymore. He's lost more than just a step out in RF. He has to be in the lower half of RF's when it comes to speed. And he has a cannon for an arm, no doubt. He just doesn't seem to ready himself for throws or prevent runners from advancing an extra base. Let me bounce something off you regarding Dye's speed. I may be totally off the mark here, because I haven't seen any games in person and I only get to see the occasional game on TV but Dye has always seemed to me to be the type with deceptive speed. In other words, he's actually moving faster than he appears to be because he moves fluidly or apparently effortlessly.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) So, the question asked me was, "REPUBLICANS ARE DOING NOT ONE THING BUT TWO THINGS LOLOLOLZ SO YOU CALL THEM DO-NOTHING?!?!?!" Yes, and they are. Putting something in motion for the purpose of it being killed, just so you can say "Well I tried but the opposition blocked it!" is so Worst Republican Congress. Maybe the opposition should call their bluff and pass it. They'll get their new minimum wage. No wait. That can't happen, because the Republicans would then get the credit. We can't have that now, can we? Block it!

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) I hope this is sarcasm. If not, we might as well give Gload's grand slam back. Fish it. I'm gone. You guys enjoy the rest of the game. I've had enough of you people for one day.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Who cares...it was a homer. The guy has PROVEN this season that the 3rd time through the order, and after 75 pitches, he's an absolute liability. Oh hell. That's a routine flyball. It doesn't reflect on Javy's pitching ability at all.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) YAYYYYYYYYYY OZZIE YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY HAVE LET HIM PUT THOSE 2 RUNNERS ON AFTER HE GAVE UP THE HOMER THAT'S SOME QUALITY MANAGING RIGHT THERE Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y Yeah. That 318 foot homer was really crushed.

What is the most would we have to pay Crede next year?

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) I thought the Angels offered exactly the same as us, and the Orioles slightly more? The way I remember it, the Angels offered 5/65 but PK signed with Sox after we picked up Thome. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) Aren't we giving him 5/65, the same as the Angels offered? And the Orioles, I believe, offered him 5/70. A home town discount that is not. I thought we signed Paulie for 5/60. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only team to outbid the Sox for PK was the Orioles, and they only gave $1 million a year more. Konerko really didn't take a home town discount. I was thinking the Angels offerd PK a 5yr/65M contract and the Orioles offered even more. -
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Nowhere in your defense of Vazquez did you use his performance to prove that he's a better option than Brandon McCarthy in the rotation. You only used reasons like his salary and high cost used to acquire him. Very telling. His performance isn't the issue. His cost and potential value in the future are the reasons they cannot put him in the pen.

The Braves DFA'd Jorge Sosa today.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 11:57 AM) I just want to know from Kenny W that he is making every effort to keep Joe Crede with the Sox. If we are fair and Booooras is fair we can keep Joe for 4 or 5 more years. He is worth it and we need him. Josh Fields can play LF. Why are we worried about this now? It's not exactly a pressing matter, time wise. -
QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) You and YASNY are using backwards logic to support your want to keep Vazquez in the rotation. Chris Young is already gone and Vazquez's contract cannot be changed, so these two past events should have no influence on how Javier Vazquez is used by the White Sox. Now that he's on the team, he should be used in whatever manner helps the Sox win the most games. You cannot disagree with that. The trade deadline argument is yours: "If they put him the pen, they've a $10M long reliever they'd never be able to trade." I simply disproved your faulty thinking: "Since the trading deadline is two days' away, your second point is irrelevant." You didn't disprove squat. You suggested putting him in the pen and I told you why that idea was worth spiff.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) That be he. They cut him before his '07 contract could vest. Would you prefer Everett or Makowiak as 4th OF? Would you prefer Rowand or Anderson as everyday CF? Thome is having a better year than Thomas, but the year isn't over. Either can get hurt again, and either can catch on fire again. I just don't buy that the '06 team has proven to be better or even as good as (remove hat) the World Champion 2005 Chicago White Sox. Mack over Everett. I've seen Everett play CF too. Anderson over Rowand. Anderson's rough start is history now. From today forward, he is and will be better than Aaron. And I'm a big fan of Aaron Rowand. Even if the stats were equal, I'd take Thome over Thomas. Thome's a lefty which fits our club better. Then, add in the clubhouse intangibles and it's Thome hands down.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060729/ap_on_...zkxBHNlYwN0bQ-- The way I see it, is, "This is like robbing Harry Truman to pay for Franklin Roosevelt's estate." It certainly isn't progressive, or honest. It was calculated to die so that the Do-Nothing Republicans in Congress can pretend to Do-Something. Wait. The Republics offer up a bill to lower taxes and raise minimum wage and the Democrats are going to kill it and it's the Republicans that are 'do nothing'? Here the Republicans are offering to 'do' two things and Democrats are blocking them. Speaking liberally here, what a crock!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) Reuters McClatchy newspapers Israel's really in trouble here. Anything less than what they asked for at first, the total destruction/disarmament of Hezbollah, is going to be viewed as them backing off, surrendering, and will be declared a victory by Hezbollah. The only problem is, the only way they're going to accomplish that goal is to level the entire country of Lebanon and kill everyone there. The air attacks haven't done it, the ground attacks have met a more determined and capable enemy than the Israelis expected, and Hezbollah proved it was able to hit Israel in ways that before this started, no one thought they could. Nasrallah is winning the public image campaign throughout the Middle East, and there really doesn't seem to be anything the Israelis can do to turn the tide right now. The best option seriously might be for the U.S. to step up and demand an immediate cease fire, because then the inevitable cease fire will be imposed from outside, and it might lessen the "Victory" declaration Nasrallah will make whenever the shooting stops and his group still exists. Isreal is never going win a public image campaign in the middle east. Never. I believe the whole of the Arab world would unite to battle Isreal if they thought they could win. That pretty much is what happened in 1967 and will happen again some day. In addition, don't disregard the influence of China in this scenario. They are sitting back pushing buttons and pulling strings in the mideast right now, I believe. They'd love for spiff to hit the fan and then come in and gather the spoils.
