  1. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Gimme a big hug you crazy Democrats. Ummmm ... you're not my type.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) Wait, did he just argue against the death penalty? Ah! One of the great ironies around here. Conservatives in favor of capital punishment and against abortion. Liberals opposed to capital punishment and in favor of abortion. The only real difference is that the unborn are totally innocent ... always.
  3. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) Actually no, they are usually just not hot-button enough to engage any discussion in this forum. Without any of the Iraq War/GEOT ineptness or domestic fiscal malfeasence (sp?) issues, I would still have seriosu reservations about administration policy. I knew before GWB was elected that this was going to be a very bad stretch for the environment, for educatuion, and for science funding. That alone made him thewrong choice from my perspective based on what I hold most important. The fact that so many administration missteps so overshadow even these serious considerations speaks volumes about the BushCo. deficiencies. But back to the Dem only thread point. This is the place where Balta, me, or anybody should be allowed to post stuff that "speaks volumes about what our true feelings are." Posted here, it is not intended to get a rise out of you, YAS, NUKE, or any of the new crop of Young Republicans. Rather, they are hands-across-the-water, preach-to-the-choir posts that allow us to share our frustration. This is where they should be, and I think they should be spared some of the :rolly from all of us fellow Dems. Point taken as well. And it was eloquently expressed.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) the arguing. I thought these were suppose to be flame free threads, to take some of the stress off the rest of filibuster. The one place where politics would be discussed with like minded, or at least similiarly minded people. No debates, no arguing, just a pleasant place. I'm supporting Gov. Perry in Texas, a GOP, and I voted for a GOP for Senator. I also voted in a majority of GOP primaries when I lived in Illinois. But I know I would be far left of everyone in the GOP forum, so I don't even visit. I don't have a clue what is being discussed. But hey, of you like the arguing, go for it. What arguing?
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) You know, though, we all lose. That's what's pathetic. True. Everybody is wrong at the same time as well.
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) Crud, meant to type "Legal". Man, I'm off a bit this morning. We all have days like that.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) You're wrong. But that's ok. They clearly have a right to complain... they need to offer solutions, too, and if they do, they'll start winning elections. Trust me. Republicans suck ass just as much as the Demcrats do, it's just a different set of issues. True dat! ^^^^^
  8. I've been a registered Democrat for 30 years. What's the problem?
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:07 PM) It's actually quite possible to argue that if both are murder...the worst one is whichever one happens more often...which would clearly be in the case of illegal abortions. I believe legal abortions are more frequent than illegal ones. If the law changes, then again, the net result is the same.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) I have never understood why energy facilities aren't the #1 target of Al Qaeda. If they really want to screw up the entire US, take away their energy supplies. I guarentee it will have more of an impact on the day to day lives of America than just 2874 people did. It sounds horribly callus, I know, but it would be the most effective means of shutting down the US economy and causing real chaos nationwide. Where do you think Bin Ladin gets his cash?
  11. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) yeah because this happens all the time. getting an abortion is not like going to the dentist or getting a car wash you know. the pain that the procedure causes is pretty severe. Severe enough where people aren't just using this as an alternative to going out and getting condoms. on a side note, would you rather have abortions or babies found dead in dumpsters? just asking.... Is the net result any different? Just asking.
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:53 AM) First time in 12 years a person actually won over 50% of the vote. Not a clear mandate, to be sure, but a mandate none the less. Perspective is a wonderful thing. Everybody can be right at the same time.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) Fire away. You already successfully outgunned me once this morning. If I can't defend something, I deserve to be called on it. Let it go, my friend. Just making a point.
  14. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) And it most certainly is. But here in the Dem backroom, this is where we feel free to put up random, unsupported Bush bashing and Fox bashing posts. This is the appropriate place for such things. This is also becoming the only safe place where posting any little news item that might reflect poorly on the administration without getting the "here they go again" treatment from those who refuse to allow that any sort of criticism of the administration can have validity. You mean, as a loyal Democrat that I shouldn't play the devil's advocate in questioning the methods and stratagies of the party faithful?
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) YAS the Democrat, I like this. I guess you have finally seen the light Welcome aboard. Flaxx told me the party was one of inclusion. So here I am.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Well, I apologize for finding that to be a bit of a shocking way to frame it. Totally out of context, because you supplied no context. You didn't watch and really don't have a clue as to what was said, but you think this is worthy of posting just to reinforce you agenda based on a whole bunch of nothing.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Yeah, basically. Which is why it's in this thread. That speaks volumes about you and your objectiveness.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) Presumably something akin to what we're discussing here. But that just seems like a really, really bad way to phrase the question. There is, IMO, no sense in which an actual civil war could be a good thing, because a ton of people would end up dead. Did you watch? Or are you talking out your ass? Or did you just see an opporutnity to post one picture out of context to make Fox News look bad?
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) I understand those arguments and think that there's a chance that given our current circumstances that's probably the best we could hope for...but on the other hand, It'd be very nice if somehow we could get to that point without a bloody full-scale civil war. That's the best we can hope for? What about the possibility of the Iraqi leaders getting a handle on the situation and calm everybody down before it does erupt into civil war? Is that impossible in your opinion?
  20. QUOTE(R.J. @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:24 AM) I can remember last year, every time they'd interview Bobby in a post-game show I was cringing, waiting for him to drop som John Rocker-esque boneheaded comment, or fly into some kind of crazy enraged angry rant, or whatever. It never came, and he couldn't have sounded like more of a complete class act. I was stunned. I also had to keep waiting for his WHIP to rise above 1.50. Never did And he only cost a waiver claim. Hence the old saying, don't judge a book by its cover.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) Which part? Maybe those issues were discussed a lot before I started posting in here a few months ago. This should be interesting.
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) OH. MY. GOD. So ... what was said?
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 11:10 AM) Thanks. Biggest compliment I've gotten on this site. I call 'em like I see 'em.
