  1. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) ...and the singer is female. Ah ... the inspiration for the name?
  2. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Thanks YASNY. Just to clarify though, I do not want something for nothing. I am looking to SWAP my tickets for some better seats and to pay the difference. If you can buy better seats from someone, you may be able to sell your extras outside the ballpark the day of the game.
  3. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) Anyone else diggin 'Morningwood' (the band)? That is a FUN ass record! I've never heard the band, but their name is hilarious.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I'd agree with you 100% there. Whatever the cause, the end result isn't good. Intolerance of those that are different is what started all of this. And this didn't start on 09/11/01. This goes back centuries ... from all sides.
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 10:03 AM) C'mon Yas, I think the liberal media thing is old. The "liberal" media raked their favorite son, Clinton, over the coals about the whole Lewinsky deal. Honestly, with all this talk about liberal media and Fox News being balanced, I see that news orgs are trying to be more centered. Tangent: You know, when I was in college, one of my journalism professors said that there is only one kind of informed person and that's one that reads newspapers and magazines, and listens to the radio AND watches TV. And not just all liberal, like Air America or all conservative, like Fox News...but EVERYTHING. So, let's just drop the liberal media thing already, huh? Sorry man. I've been watching network news for 30+ years and I am convinced the media has a liberal agenda. So, no, I won't just drop the liberal media thing. It's my opinion and I have the privilege of expressing it here on Soxtalk and I'll continue to do so whenever I feel it's appropriate. As for your 'Tangent' ... I listen to Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Hannity to offset the liberal indoctrination I have received over the past 30+ years.
  6. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) Hey Shelly, an addiction is an addiction, whether it's drugs, alcohol, porn or religion. When you go all out from one to another, that's a problem. The question is, do you truly have faith? An addiction to religion? That's the first time I've heard that. When you put it that way, I have to confess I'm addicted to the White Sox.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) The non-stop violence in Iraq and Israel/Palestine certainly is a big player. I don't believe the media is trying to make Bush look bad, though - I think they are showing what sells: violence and anything spectacular. Unfortunately, that means we don't see the daily camera shots from India, Turkey and any number of other countries where Islam gets along just fine with other religions (isolated incidents aside). So the view is skewed. Definitely sad in any case. We have a difference of opinion on the media/Bush thing, but that's cool.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) Did his nose get bigger.... because damn its gigantic. He must be snorting steroids.
  9. Why do I keep picturing Jackie Gleason as I read this thread?
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) Funny how there are unintended side effects for what gets shown on the news... Ain't it though?
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) Im a big fan of post president Carter.... he isnt perfect but In my opinion he has done a lot of good since being out of presidency.... Its just that he did such a crap job while being a president many people cant see past that. I used to have respect for Carter as an ex-president. However, he's been politically irrelevent for 25+ years. Seems like he's getting tired of it and has blown off the the courtesy he received while in office of not being criticized by ex-presidents.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) Sort of ironic that Americans' views on Bush are statistically correlated with that of Americans' views on Islam. Here's my thinking on this. The media shows violence in Iraq to push their liberal agenda and undermine Bush. After so many hours of watching violence in the name of Allah, the American public naturally starts to get a jaded view of Islam.
  13. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) And you can thank our ENTIRE media for this. But, Bush's approval numbers are down, so it's all good.
  14. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) Any thoughts? Yes. We have a Marlins' fan who's flying SIU Saluki colors talking about oggling snowboarders on a White Sox message board. Sounds like a normal day at Soxtalk.
  15. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 06:33 AM) Difference is 1 team won the WS No s***?!?
  16. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 04:36 AM) You can't compare 2005-2006 to 1983-1984. The Sox lost the ALCS in 1983, they didn't go 11-1 in the postseason. Seaver was the main offseason acquisition compared to (Thome, Vazquez, Mackowiak, Cintron). Big difference. 1984 Starting Rotation: Hoyt Bannister Seaver Dotson Burns 2006 Starting Rotaion: Buehrle Contreras Garcia Garland Vazquez Sure I can. Since I'm doing the comparing, I get to choose the criteria to compare. Both teams came off of 1st place finishes and made additions that seemed to strengthen the club over the offseason.
  17. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) I think Kerry Wood will be out longer than 2 weeks. It's probably worse than what the Flubs are saying. Isn't that always the case with that club?
  18. To what extent, I don't know, but I believe Selig will slap Bonds pretty hard. Suspension in works for Bonds?
  19. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Bump. Realy? No one? I'd keep bumping this thread about once a week. As the time gets closer, someone will realize they just can't make the game.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) I've been a Sox fan for too long to say we're going to win the world series in 2005. Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we will flop. However, I still remember 1984.
  21. I didn't prognosticate very well last year, but this is fun. 1) A White Sox starter will win 20 games (might as well leave it the same ) - Fact. Contreras gets 22. 2) Joe Borchard will get the last roster spot -Fiction. He'll be traded before opening day. 3) Lopez will be the 2nd left handed reliever -Fiction. 2nd lefty comes in Borchard deal. 4) Thome will hit more than 35 homers - Fact 5) Uribe will still be hitting 2nd at the All-star break - Fact 6) Javier Vazquez will win 15 games - Fact 7) Brian Anderson will hit over .260 - Fiction. .250 range 8) Jon Garland and Jose Contreras will have ERA's under 4 (please elaborate if not) - Fact 9) Scott Podsednik will steal more than 45 bases - Fact 10) Bobby Jenks will save more than 35 games - Fiction. I'm thinking 30ish. 11) Tadahito Iguchi will hit over .280 - Fact. 12) Jermaine Dye will play more than 145 games - Fiction. Not quite that many. 13) Joe Crede will hit over .260 - Fact. 14) Paul Konerko will hit over 40 homeruns and drive in more than 100 again - Fact. 15) The Sox will improve their team ERA (3.61) Fact. 3.57 16) The Sox will make a trade for a major league player at the deadline. - Fact. The odds are that someone will falter or get hurt. 17) The Sox will finish in the top 5 in the AL in runs scored -Fiction. Ozzie will take us out of a few big innings by playing for one or two runs. 18) Jermaine Dye will drive in 90 runs - Fact. Thome's OBP will help Dye. 19) The Sox will win the AL Central (this one better be fact ) -Fact 20) The Sox will return to the World Series -Fact
  22. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:35 AM) This quote is what got me thinking about the 12 pitchers, especially after adding Cintron: So if Hermanson is not 100% or if one of the Starting pitchers needs some time off after the WBC and McCarthy moves up to the rotation, it would seem like a better idea to carry 12 pitchers instead of 5 bench players. If either of those scenarios exist, that's exactly what they'll do. They will certainly do all they can to protect that pitching staff.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 01:43 AM) I was for a Griffey trade last season when our offense was pathetic with Everett struggling horribly. I didn't care who we would have had to trade for Griffey. I wanted them to win the World Series. Luckily, they won it without making a move other than Geoff Blum. But I still would have only wanted Griffey last season if he was our DH to replace Everett, not replacing Rowand in CF. Things are different now. Thome is our DH and Griffey's contract and injury problems don't make sense for us in CF. Good post. The situation has changed dramatically from July 31st till now. Griffey wouldn't be a very good fit with this team.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) Very true. Maybe I have a losers attitude, but after ending the 88 year disaster drought last season, I am a lot more relaxed. We may not win it all, but no way in hell Ozzie, Kenny, and these players let us "flop". Ah! I've been a Sox fan too long to say that "no way" that happens.
