  1. Marte comes in for the Dominicans and walks the first guy he faces. Imagine that.
  2. QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) We are all from the same baseball era. You me and Jim. Ya, good point.
  3. By the way, Vasquez is looking very solid against that awesome Dominican line up.
  4. JimH and quickman, I really wish you guys would come around more often. I enjoy your take on things, as it's usually right on the money.
  5. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) You make it sound like a franchise program... Look for the golden turban.... Whatever. I just thought it was worth mentioning.
  6. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Well hell, the Cubans lost to the Puerto Ricans. Maybe we should just throw the tournament because Castro might become pissed off with them for losing that game? And if they get eliminated, maybe we should've dropped the games against them because, hey, Castro might not like it? Castro's not going to be nice to them if they lose, you know. I just don't buy your argument. I think it's appeasement of an unneeded kind and, worse, they're bound to be abused for losses, methinks. You are entitled to your opinion.

    QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) I was never informed about this 5-Digit Club.... Congrats Balta! That's because I just thought of it!
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 12:20 AM) Too bad you're not a Tibune editor.
  9. I read something a while back that MS-13 was in 'negotiations' with Al-Qaeda to effective be an 'US branch'. I have no recall as to where I read it, so take that into account when considering credibility.
  10. A very eloquent statement made by a patriot and based on his expectations of what America should be, and his convictions about those expectations. I commend him for the depth of those convictions.
  11. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) You know, why on Earth should people have to abide by Castro's rules or demands in other countries? Because it's put the Cuban ballplayers in a position to where they have to worry about what happens when they get home instead of concentrating on baseball. Castro is a dictator and if the don't handle these situations correctly, or something backfires on them, they'll have hell to pay. Part of the intrigue for me in this 'classic' is just how good are these Cubans? I'd like to find out while they are just focusing on baseball and not worrying about Castro's reactions to some needless BS.
  12. I fully expect to see Thome play first on occasion this year. He's always played defensively. This will be his first year as a primary DH. This is not Frank Thomas we are talking. Thome is perfectly capable of playing first with no more risk of injury than exists for Paulie playing first or Crede playing at third.

    QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 05:49 PM) Not to mention the vast majority of the posts are quality (aside from that liberal crap) But that liberal crap IS the vast majority of his posts. Nah. Just kidding. Welcome to the 5 digit club, Balta!
  14. I can't believe people are advocating that it's acceptable for people to come to this country and disregard the laws of this country.
  15. QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 06:15 PM) I don't think he can pitch another inning in a White Sox uniform without getting booed. I wasn't suggesting reacquiring him. He's an example of what has been said we needed. Yet, if we had just acquired him now and he repeated last year's performance, even at 3.77 ERA, he would be considered a flop. A GM can't just look at numbers.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) This team doesnt need a Scot Sheilds or Brad Lidge. I dont think anyone has said that. The eternal optimists that think everything is perfect want to believe that is what were talking about, but thats just not the case. All Kenny needs to do is go out and find a guy that has put up a 3.20-3.80 ERA in the pen the last few years. There are plenty of guys out there that can do that, and some on REALLY bad teams... I know of a guy that fits your description to a tee. And he's a lefty. Damaso Marte.
  17. Since this is not really a Sox issue, I'm putting this in here. William Ligue sentenced to 5 years
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) Both of my parents worked, yet I still feel they spent a large amount of their free time with me and my sister. I feel they did a great job rasing me and making me a successful person. I still think that you can both work, and still have time to instill values and raise your kids correctly. But thats just my opinion. I won't argue that point. But then again, I reiterate that it's not easy and that parents have to learn how to parent. Even though you apparently do, I want to express to you to be sure and 'count your blessings'. Sounds like you have a wonderful set of parents ... as do I.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Fair enough. I agree. But you have to admit in many cases there is alot less parent interaction than in the past. I'll agree with you here, but with qualifiers. Back in the 50's the father worked and the mother stayed home to raise the kids. Currently, it takes two incomes to ... how should I put this ... To achieve the level of financial independance that most people strive for. Now, you have to weigh certain things here. Does 'financial independance' mean you get to go to Europe every other year ... does it mean you get to but your Sox season tickets ... or does it mean that you are busting your ass to put your kids through a good college? Where do you draw the line that decides whether you are giving your kids anough 'nuturing' or are your priorities to give your kid a chance to achieve and excel in life? There is no 'right way' to do things as you don't know what the future will bring. There are too many variables in this equation.
  20. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Take 20 paces...turn... Fire!!!!
  21. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) By comparing Bush to Hitler, you certainly earned it. Damn. In retrospect, I can see your point too. I think I'll just STFU and let you two go at it. Have fun!
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) These were all 18 to 20 year old college students, as far as we could tell. But then again, I suppose there is the outside chance that he had made others, for other reasons, and successfully destroyed that evidence. Not likely, but possible. Then I stand by my previous statement regarding 'a slap upside the head'.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) It's a fan. As long as he's not preventing the fans around him from seeing the game, or taking any act which actually interferes with the play on the field, who cares? Do people get tossed out of games for heckling? I submit that is a distraction to the Cuban players in the field. They do noy have the luxury of blocking it out and focusing on the game because when they get back to Cuba they are possibly subject to 'intense questioning' by the government as to why they didn't take a stand for 'Fearless Leader'.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) And not only do we not know, but even the seller doesn't know or control what they would be used for. Probably just to get into a bar - but who knows? That is a good point. That's why I said earlier that you have to have faith in the powers that be to determine what is actually going on. If the kid is selling to fellow students that are 19 and want to get into bars to get laid, that's one thing. If he's selling to 35 year old men, then you have to assume that there are other motives. That stuff all comes out in the investigation.
