  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 07:06 AM) I hope that KW doesn't just stick with Thornton so he doesn't risk losing him to waivers. I know that the cost for relievers is probably way too high right now. But if there's a better option when teams make their cuts, I hope KW picks him up and doesn't just hope that Thornton is already the answer. If KW has been trying to acquire Thornton for 2 years, you can bet that he's not going to try and sneak him through waivers after two weeks. Matt's going north. Book it.
  2. QUOTE(bmags @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 06:56 PM) i think what is likely here that this was a very large write up of a very long term spanning study and i wouldn't be suprised if this finding was a very small part of it but when read people found it the most interesting. I'm sure there were more accurately reported results in this study which were far less interesting, but were more controlled and closer to a true experiment. But for this small sample size, in this small study, he found this to be true, there's nothing to get so wound up about, jeeze, so you were a whiny baby...who cares? Are you whiny now? Nothing in psychology can ever be declared fact, but through years upon years of verification can something as close to true as possible be declared. Just read this as a funny anecdote and move on. Ridiculous over response to this thread. The fact that someone saw fit to post this crap is what happens to be ridiculous. The responses to it are justified. It's garbage.
  3. Considering that FISA tried to circumvent the Patriot Act by adhereing to the old Janet Reno standards, and this was challanged before the COR by the administration. The COR ruled in agreement with the administration. So, what exactly has Bush done that is illegal?
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 06:39 PM) No, I totally understand. Trust me.. I've been in his shoes. :rolly Yes you have. In fact, that was what I had in mind when I made this now famous nationally published quote. I didn't want people crucifying someone that posted a rumor that failed to pan out.
  5. Okay, so someone help me out here. What was it about my post that made it quote worthy? I mean, I tell a guy that sometimes things are or are not true on a message board and I get qouted in SI? I don't get it.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 02:16 AM) Can I have an autograph? Sure. Next time I buy Sox tickets from you.
  7. I can't really composed an appropriate remark here as this one kind hits too close to home for me. My condolences to all that knew and loved this young lady.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 08:24 PM) We all need a break after that. Seriously, you should tighten that post up just a bit, link it to the NR piece and submit it as a diary on DKos. I didn't see anybody touch on it there, and in fact didn't even know about the article until YAS posted it here today. I heard York 'guesting' on radio show that was being played as I was driving through Arkansas at about 6:30 Thiursday morning. I believe the shows host was named Bill Bennett. I had never run across this show before then. I committed York's name and publication to memory so I could follow up on what I heard. Tuesday morning while at work, I found the article and read it. I wasn't aware of any of this information prior to that radio talk show. However, I always believed Bush simply HAD to have legal justification for his actions, but I had never heard what that justification might be. The Democrats have been circling Bush like a pack (school? herd? pride? ) of sharks since the 2000 election and he could not risk doing intentionally something illegal or unconstitutional given that political environment.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) However, despite the fact that I cannot prove the searches to be unconstitutional...the searches are being done in a fashion which does not have FISA approval. In that case, they are in breach of the FISA law. I don't exactly see where there is a hole. A hole could have been created through simple means - challenging the offending provision of FISA in court and following up on claims of unconstitutionality (is that a word? Yow). But they didn't do that. And that, I think, is the real problem. I'll be honest with you Balta, some of what you put together is a little over the top for me. The legal terminology and jargon is a bit difficult for me to follow. However, in the paragraph quoted above you state the searches are in breach of the FISA law and therefore illegal. You also still question the constitionality of them. Yet, if you go back to the York article, it states...
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) ALDS- White Sox over Red Sox Angels over A's NLDS- Astros over Cubs Braves over Cardinals ALCS- Angels over White Sox NLCS- Astros over Braves WS- Astros over Angels MVP- A-Rod, Pujols CY Young- Buehrle, Oswalt Divisional rivals don't meet in the first round. Angels over A's and Astros over Cubs can't happen in the DS. Also you have 3 teams from the NL Central and none from the NL West.
  11. QUOTE(G&T @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) He gave up four hits pretty quick and they were all fastballs. And like I said in that post, unless he can throw a breaking ball he's in trouble. I wouldn't be at all shocked if Cooper instructed Thornton to just work on locating his fastball.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 01:47 AM) Here on soxtalk, players aren't given a chance. You should know that by now Yas. I can always hope. But then, guys from the '05 team like Konerko, Cotts, Crede, Rowand, Dye, Garland and Contreras would have all been run out of town by Soxtalkers at some point.
  13. Ladies and gentleman, meet the new Soxtalk whipping boy, Matt Thorton. C'mon people, give the guy and Coop a chance will ya?
  14. It's been over two hours since this thread has been added to. I really thought there'd be more discussion about this.
  15. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) Are you giving me a choice between Lee or Podsednik? I choose Lee. If you are givine me the choice of Podsednik, Vizcaino and $6 million or Lee? I'll take the former. Bingo. Or you can look at it as Pods, Vizcaino, AJ and Iguchi (maybe even more ... El Duque? Dye? I don't remember the sequence of events.) for Lee.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 18, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) It seems every other post you make Yasny it has something to do with how long you been a whitesox fan.... I think we get it Get past the "how long I've been a Sox fan" and focus on the point that the length of my Soxfandom is brought up to emphasize. Then maybe you'll 'get it'.
  17. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) Sorry about the bump, but I was digging round the internet for some stuff on the Reed-Garcia trade... I thought it would be fun to revisit this one. Oh noes! Seattle has Reed and Borchard! and all we've got is a silly World Series Championship and Matt Thornton. Fixed that for you.
  18. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) You know, Helen Thomas is parroting what (nearly) every Democrat out there thinks. Kudos. She stood up and spoke her true beliefs. Kudos, though for Bush having a good answer back. I agree with you. I also believe Bush should have been doing this type of thing all along. The fact that he has 'been protected' at his public appearances has contributed to the distrust that many have for him now. A major strategic error, in my opinion.
  19. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) It was a bad trade. The Sox would've been even better last year had they not been cheap and traded Carlos Lee. Podsednik was an addition no doubt, but he really didn't add that much. No. It wasn't a bad trade. It opened the door that led to the World Series.
  20. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Or you could just realize that the alternative to Scott Podsednik in left was Timo Perez (appeared in Left in 27 games last year) & Pablo Ozuna (9 games). Or I could realize he replaced Carlos Lee in left field.
  21. What was our record with a healthy Scott Podsednik? What was our record when he out or playing with that hernia? I rest my case.
  22. I saw this exchange. This is good stuff. It's about time Bush stepped from behind his protective sheild and started answering the questions. He should have been doing this all along.
  23. QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) That, of course, cuts both ways. Of course. You'll get no argument from me on that point.
  24. YASNY

    I'm back!

QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Sorry, buddy. I had to wait until I called Mariotti this morning. I'm thrilled for you. Good luck on having a boy. I hope you get your wish.
