  1. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) I guess right now I'd have to put Korea as number 1, they're just unstopable right now. Who'da thunk it?
  2. Anyone notice a pattern with this guy? Everything is cool until he gets raked, then his arm hurts. Is it cause and effect, or effect and cause?
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) This is WONDERFUL news for the organization. But not so great for out of town fans that don't know when they can get to Chicago. BTW, working on scoring tickets to the Sox and Rangers in Arlington. These are damn good seats, so I'm waiting to see what game or games I can get, then I'll check into buying online for the other game or games.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) I will be surprised if they make July. They spent like 2 years after Columbia trying to fix the foam problem, and on the first flight, their fixes totally failed. That doesn't inspire confidenc.e There's not much about any gov't agency or body that inspires confidence.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) That does present an interesting thought - could this sort of generator be weaponized? Leave it to mankind. Someone will figure out how to do it. Of course, you are to blame for the original idea
  6. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) They'd just use boats. Think Cuban refugees. Actually. I apologize for that post. It was completely out of place. I should have read the entire thread first.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) This has an American connection as well. There are two large, classic "rift valleys" in the world - the Great Rift Valley in Africa, which is splitting Africa, is one. The other is the Rio Grande rift valley, running north-south roughly in parallel with the Rio Grande river from southern Colorado, through New Mexico, then turning SE and ending (I think) in the Big Bend area. Central NM has been predicted to experience continued and increased geological activity in rift seperation, and probably some volcanic activity, in the geologically-near future (though I don't think its moving at the staggering pace as the African example). I wonder how the landscape of this country, literally and figuratively, would change if a large lake or sea suddenly opened up in NM and TX. This might reduce our illegal immigration problem.
  8. Who's the cat that won't back out... Unless there's religious intolerance all about?
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) His bat was on steroids. Do they test for cork?
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) The uproar of cubs fans in my office is downright hilarious. Enjoy!
  11. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) It's all about instant gratification these days. I want it to end. AND I WANT IT TO END NOW, DAMMIT!! I'm not crazy about your political views, but I love your sense of humor.
  12. So Garcia and Vazquez combined pitched 9 innings against the DR and gave up 2 earned runs. Not too shabby!
  13. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) Sox are 29th in the MLB ins ST BA. Astros are 30th. D'Backs as a team: .371/.442/.600 Eh, who cares? The Dbacks have had the luxury of facing our multitude of ne'er-do-wells. Their fans prabably think The DBacks are a lock to win it all.
  14. QUOTE(toasty @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) if pods is dl'ed for start of season, might ozzie leave the bench players in place and give ryan sweeny some time in the OF, provided he continues to perform well in ST? I have two words for you that tell me this probably will not happen. Arbitration Clock.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) I hope this post was full of sarcasm. The highest level this Logan guy has pitched at was 5.1 innings at Winston-Salem (Single A) last season. Agreed. That was a bit on the presumptuous side.
  16. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) So your claim is that each and every one came here legally? There are illegal Irish immigrants here today... People have been discussing things here on broad scope and you focus on a technicality.
  17. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Frist calls for a vote without debate. Feingold advocates censure. Frist calls his bluff.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) I did so in order to prove that they have had it hard as well, not to make it look like they had it any harder or worse off than another. Sorry if that is how I made it out to look. I think we are on the same page now.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) I never said one had it easier than the next. I said all of them have it hard. No one should claim racism because it is hard on them. It is the way it is when you come over here with absolutely nothing trying to start a new life. That was my point all along. Someone was trying to claim racism because they are treated poorly and have it hard. Every immigrant group has and has been. Agreed, but with a caveat. You've twice brought up the 'coffin ships' to make your point, and in my opinion that one point doesn't carry much weight when you take into account that the Mexicans crossing the border take some extreme risks as well. That's all I'm saying.
  20. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) The only person as of last night who publically spoke out against the censure in the Democratic party is actually Joe Lieberman. Reid said he wouldn't vote for it before he read it as of last night and has voiced no specific support or opposition to the censure as of last night. I'll agree that there is some degree of grandstanding to this censure motion. I'll also agree that in Feingold's mind, he probably thinks it the right thing to do for the good of the country as well. Sometimes both motives play at the same time. If I recall, Frists said that the Democrats objected to his call for a vote. Leiberman is probably the only one with the gonads to 'publically' speak out against the censure, which fits with his character.
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) I happen to agree with him IN THAT this President and his administration have done a lot of things that seem to chip away at our personal freedoms. This issue exemplifies that. I agree with this part of your post.
  22. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) The evidence connecting him to the actual 9/11 plot/actions are actually rather tenuous, IIRC. However, he is an avowed member of Al-Qaeda and has been involved with other plots that have been foiled. Read your own post ... number 8 in this thread. Is that tenuous?
  23. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) Calling Logan an "A" ball player is like calling Pedro Lopez a major leaguer. He's never played full season ball. Let's start bringing up the best hitter in the game who full season of dominating A ball before he made the big club. the following year. Dontrelle don't fit either. He had nothing but success in the minors, and had 200 more innings above rookie ball than does Logan. My point is that when the kid takes the mound, and he shows the stuff, the intestinal fortitude and the mindset that leads OG, DC and KW to believe he can be successful, then he'll get the chance to prove it, regardless of preconceived notions of fans of what should and shouldn't be done.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) YASNY, it happens, but it is not the only way or the most common way. Still, they do take substantial risks however they cross the border. They face bandits, deserts, etc. I just think that saying one group face more risk than another is a moot point due to the fact that, generally, none of them had an easy way to go.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) And your point is what? That the Irish didn't have that obstacle? Do the Mexican's have what little money they do have taken away from them upon arrival? Are they told they can't have a job because they are Mexican? Are they forced to join the Army and go fight in a war that they have no idea what it is about? Do they have to arrive in "coffin ships"? And these were immigrants arriving here legally. Immigrants that wanted to be here to start a new life. Each nationality had their own struggles. When you come here with nothing, what do you expect? Don't expect everything to be handed to you. Our tax dollars should not go to anything that they need or supply anything for them. You want to point out one obstacle that some didn't have to face. Kudos to you. Now what about the Germans, the Polish, and the Chinese? One point I'll make in response is that Mexicans quite often arrive in 'coffin trucks'.
