March 15, 200620 yr QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) I don't know what to do...congratulate Kenny, curse at the WBC, insult Marte, or blame this on Dusty Baker. Well played Balta Everyone should remember that 2 times last year marte was having some sort of arm issue and didnt tell Ozzie. Starting Marte's downfall with Ozzie. I remember one of those times was in Colorado when his velocity dropped big time and he was stretching his arm out on the mound a bunch of times.
March 15, 200620 yr Anyone notice a pattern with this guy? Everything is cool until he gets raked, then his arm hurts. Is it cause and effect, or effect and cause?

March 15, 200620 yr QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 04:06 PM) How the hell did Dusty have anything to do with this? That's a joke on account of the Cubs always have pitching problems.
March 16, 200620 yr http://pittsburgh.pirates.mlb.com/NASApp/m...t=.jsp&c_id=pit Marte out of Classic with sore shoulder Dominican Republic has yet to name a replacement By Adam McCalvy / MLB.com SAN JUAN -- Pirates left-hander and World Baseball Classic participant Damaso Marte traveled back to Pittsburgh on Wednesday to get treatment for a sore shoulder, and the Dominican Republic will have to name a replacement before the start of the Classic semifinals. Marte allowed three runs in 1/3 inning Sunday in the Dominican Republic's 7-1 loss to Puerto Rico. He did not pitch Tuesday night, when the Dominicans beat Venezuela to advance to the semifinals of the Classic in San Diego beginning Saturday. "I have inflammation in the shoulder. We don't know what it is, but I'm going to Pittsburgh to be examined," Marte told the Associated Press before leaving Hiram Bithorn Stadium. Dominican Republic manager Manny Acta revealed the injury after his team's 2-1 win Tuesday night. He can choose a replacement from a pool of 13 pitchers listed on the Dominican Republic's provisional roster who were not included on the 30-man active squad. The list includes Texas Rangers closer Francisco Cordero, who originally opted out of the Classic because of concerns about his right shoulder. Cordero watched on television as his countrymen held off a ninth-inning threat to beat Venezuela, but said no one had contacted him about participating. "I'm really in the middle," Cordero said. "If I get the call, I'd think about it, really think about it. So far, nothing has happened. If they called, I'd talk to the [Rangers] manager and the general manager." "I haven't been contacted, the Rangers haven't been contacted and I haven't had a chance to talk to [Cordero]," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "We support him and whatever decision he makes. I understand he's under some pressure, with national pride at stake." Marte made two appearances in the Classic and is 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA and two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.
March 16, 200620 yr He was injured last year. I remember when they were playing in Toronto early in the season, and they showed him warming up. He was trying to shake pain out of his arm. Whether there really is a problem with his arm or shoulder at this point, its in his head that there is, so there probably is very little chance of him returning to his once dominating ways in 2006.

Even though we are still looking for a second lefty, this trade was a steal for us.

March 19, 200620 yr We have a tendency to get rid of pitchers when or right before they have problems, which isn't a bad thing. Marte now, the Sirotka deal, McDowell was never the same after he left here, Alex Fernandez shortly after leaving had problem and I'm sure there are more.
March 19, 200620 yr I hope Marte is OK. If not, we got argubly the best bench player in the game for nothing.
