QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) No, the exact opposite. I'm saying that there will be a change. Yes. I totally misread that. My mistake.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) Trust me, you're fighting a losing battle. Just by looking at who's already come out against it in this thread, anyone can figure out that they will win. Then I'm history around here.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) "It is, however (as has been stated), ignorant and demeaning." I disagree. "Also, though, there would be a lot of Hispanics that would probably be offended if they did read through these threads not understanding what it was all about. I realize that this was a gag from the start of the season and it's just kept going, but some guests or others probably would not." This is a good point and if someone asked what it was all about, I'd tell them. To assume and label something 'racist' without understanding it and refusing to even try is unfair. I call 'em like I see 'em. This is racist.

Dems use corrupt congressmen to fight corruption
YASNY replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
This speaks for itself. Not about the Democrats, but about the politicians. All of 'em. -

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) First off I applaud YASNY for standing up for what he believes is right even if there hasn't been a lot of support or people thinking it's a big problem. I agree with genious that many times the parody isn't a racial slur, but I still think it is wrong. I would like tosee the site that anyone from the Sox organization could come to and feel welcome. I would like to see the site welcoming every Sox fan, regardless of primary language. I believe some of the "impersonations" step over a line. The best way I can describe it is this feels more like a blackface ruitine during segregation, than a tribute. Excellent comparison. The blackface thing has been considered offensive for years now. Yet, it is a parody. I cannot understand why this isn't obvious to everyone.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) I don't think doing an impersonation of someone with a foreign accent is the same as using a racial slur. I guess it could be if it was being done in a malicious way...but I really don't think that is what is going on here. Sir, you are not living up to the standards your handle implies here. I'm sorry but this s*** is dead wrong.

Wow. I thought I posted here earlier. Congrats Steff!

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) If making fun of Ozzie's accent is racist, basically the entire team and Ozzie himself are total racists If a black man calls another blackman 'n*****', is that racist? They do it all the time.

In India, cows are sacred. In the USA we eat ground beef. They must think we are a disgusting society. Muslims won't touch pork. We eat it tons of it every day.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) I'll take bets on how long it will be until PETA sends out an anti-clinton press release. I'd take "never" if it wasn't an unwinnable bet.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 08:58 AM) "Oh. I've b****ed about it. I just haven't received much support." That should tell you that maybe you are the only person who sees anything wrong with it. I see things on this board every day that I don't like, or aren't funny to me, or don't make 'good satire', but I don't tell people what they can or can't write. Having a laugh at ficticious characters from movies makes Sox Talk look bad?? Letting a small group of people try to dictate what is right and wrong is what will make Sox Talk look bad. If something is racial and demeaning, it's wrong. I don't care how you justify it. It is f***ing wrong. Look, I get angry about too much political correctness stuff being shoved down our throats in this country. But, to make fun of a large segment of our population because their English is not quite up to your standards is f***ing ignorant. Edit: Are Sammy Sosa and Ozzie Guillen fictious characters? I've seen the same type of idiocy used protraying them.

QUOTE(samclemens @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) a shade oversensitive are we? Now why would I be oversensitive? If someone is being ignorant, they're being ignorant.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) I'm glad she's back for another go, but this is clearly a phasing out. I wonder when she will be eligible for the HoF. Can her "number" be retired. Sounds to me like this was her choice, not the Sox pushing her out the door.

Who really cares what Bobby Howry has to say? It's not like he's a future HOF'er. We are World Champs folks! That's all that matters.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 06:30 AM) If we are keeping score, I am 100% behind YASNY on this. Perhaps I'm biased from living on the border, but this stuff isn't even good satire. Thanks.

I wish I could remember how I came up with that 'handling the pitching staff' thing. Can't say that I've watched a lot of Expos games. Regardless, if I'm wrong about it, I'm wrong.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 07:59 PM) Me neither. We've been doing that stuff since the beginning of the baseball season and nobodys b****ed a fit till now. Oh. I've b****ed about it. I just haven't received much support. You seemed to acknowledge racism in the same type of thing in a post by LCR where he was quoting from a magazine and the author was using 'satire' regarding blacks. For those that haven't read the above mentioned post, LCR was showing what a jagbag this author was. NUKE, you are a good dude, but this stuff is just wrong.

Those of you that go to Soxfest need to get answers to this question.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) Looking back, I suppose the word "absurd" was a bit strong, since it was perspective being discussed (which is entirely subjective). Sorry about that. I do agree with the responses here though, stating that it truly is the same from either side of the fence on this one. The other side on an issue always looks more extreme than your own. Fair enough.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 07:14 PM) An important distinction between Grace and Barret, is that Grace was a strong defensive player. Mike, not so much... Barrett's strength is in the handling of the pitching staff.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) LOL Laugh if you want to. I'm gonna get this s*** stopped or I'll leave Soxtalk. Mark my words.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) By the way, the NSA - from what I understand isn't necessarily wiretapping suspects - but people that may or may not have a connection to someone who might be suspected of possibly being involved in terrorism. And, opinion polls are still bulls***. The law is the law is the law. And it ought to be respected. If this story had come out about what Bill Clinton was doing in 1998, how do you think the Republicans would have reacted. Would the DEMS have circled the wagons around Clinton? Maybe. Maybe not. I know, at least, I wouldn't have. I never joined the circle. But, I'm willing to see how all this plays out before I just state that our president broke the law. I'm certain the legality of this was discussed in great detail before any action was taken. Now it's a matter of interpretation of the law. We'll see what happens.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jan 14, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) YAS, I think its entirely your perception. The RNC doesn't really have a recognizable face. The DNC does. But neither chairman shapes the party. Dean is responsible for one major change in the Dem party, the party is shifting to a more populist and grassroots approach. His comments on policy, don't always reflect the actions of the Dems. But it does fire up his base, and gets peoples boots on the ground. And its manpower, not just money, that wins elections. A possibility I defintely allowed for, before one sentence was taken out of context and called absurd.
